Just verifying that "Jun. 13, 2012 14:00 to Jun. 14, 2012 00:30 (PDT)." is not a typo lol.

Don't forget to add 150% for emergency maintenance!

they are doing some sort of fixes to the POL servers that run the game, the details as always are vague and they probably wont even tell us much after they finish the updates, we wont even be able to update FFXI itself till after they make the POL servers available again, I think I'll just go find a good book to read :/

At least it's an update....? Lol

it would be nice if they changed it so it would log you directly into XI unless there is an update instead of making us choose it....either that or give PS2 and XB360 users access to the SE account system, the forums and LS community through POL viewer, make the stupid thing useful, right now its used for news, chat and to log into XI....you dont have to give PS2/XB360 users a full web browser, just make a portal that allows them access to the SE account system, the forums and the LS community portal

Think that might be a little past PS2 limitations lol

My own speculation is that SE is doing a major update to the SE Account Management System in order to get it ready for some new stuff which they will probably announce at VanaFest which is about 9 days later. In addition, they may also be preparing for Version 2.0 of FFXIV.

FFXIV is also down at that same time. Both FFXI and FFXIV go down at 2pm PDT on the 13th. FFXIV comes back up a little sooner than FFXI, which is probably a result of the need to put the June update on the servers for FFXI.

But yes, it is 10 hours down for FFXIV, and 10.5 hours down for FFXI (which will likely be extended for both games based on past history).

We don't need to give PS2 players any ideas that it is anywhere near acceptable to continue playing FFXI on a PS2.

360-players are at least using a newer console system; I say support those guys.
But yeah, PS2 players need to learn one way or another to get off PS2. <_<

I'll just go ahead and predict it'll be ~14 hrs after all of the unexpected delays, emerg maints etc that slow it down further

I think if those PS2 players are still on the PS2, the only way to get them off it will be to kill PS2 support and I get the feeling with their announcement to increase the size of FFXI on the PS2/3 its safe to say they aren't planning to kill support for the PS2 any time soon, otherwise I wouldn't have even included the PS2 in my suggestion

10.5 hours wouldn't be so bad if it didnt start when i got home from work and end 3 hours before i have to get up for work. These shouldn't occur during NA time all the time. the JP's can go without for once.

10 hours update is nothing new. Back in my day we could've expected 12 hours ++ for a version update.

But back in those days they only announced it would be 4 hours! This update heralds a new era of honesty.

Oh you were lucky. Back in my day we used to have 36 hour maintenances, every day, that started half an hour before they started, and when it was all done the developers would send hitmen to our house--I say it was a house, but it was really just an old septic tank, but it was a house to us--and murder us. But we were much happier back then.

A very long maintenance period has always accompanied any sort of hardware-related maintenance. This is nothing new. Hopefully we don't end up seeing emergency maintenance tomorrow during NA prime time as well, though.

Oh we will, this is SE we're talking about. They don't care much for their NA player base.

Does anyone know if the game's still down? I just tried connecting, but when it goes to update I get an error message saying the "network is busy or there are connection problems."

Thanks, I'm fairly new to the FFXI (been playing for a little over a week now), so this is the first maintenance period I've experienced, and I wasn't sure what to expect. I was trying to make sure it wasn't a connection issue on my end that needed to be resolved. Good to know I'm not the only one having issues with the update.

sadly i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but prepare for a long wait when updating this game. for large updates like this one you're going to be looking at 4-6 hrs of updating sometimes. i have cable/dsl internet and that's about what it usually ends up for me. best bet is to just wait a day, then update it while you're sleeping, unless you have saintly patience.

really don't understand why SE don't just offer direct downloads for updates on the website, pc users could update it so much faster that way, rather than depend on their lame ass launcher...

Yeah, it was a hard night. But got in some other games. But I've still not been able to DL the update. Oh, hello forums btw!
