Please allow us to copy and paste. We can at least try and chat to people from other countries. I understand you cant increase Auto translate but at least this gives us an alternative.

Didn't they come up with some nonsense this would be hard to implement.

Auto-Translate needs a total overhaul. There are so many useless words and phrases and there's hardly any way to communicate what I actually need to because so few new things have been added.

I know i use as many words from auto translate. I laugh wondering what it comes out as on the other side.

Hi there!

Please allow us to copy and paste. We can at least try and chat to people from other countries.

Masekase,

We did answer this in an earlier post (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/22877-New-Windows-Version-User-Interface?p=313007&viewfull=1#post313007), but that was a while back, huh? I went ahead and asked for an update from the Development Team.

They will be focusing on the high priority portions of the new UI first. Once those milestones have been completed, testing to see if features such as copy/paste could be implemented will be next on their plate. We'll make sure of it.

(Understood.) You may have heard that we're reaching a limit on how many auto-translation phrases/words we can add. Is this the end of the line for auto-translation, Development Team?

Nope. :)

As a solution for now, it's certainly possible that removing some outdated words or phrases will free some needed memory. We can then use that memory for newer and more useful terms.

If there is a word or phrase that you wish was there for you on your adventures,
(Can I have it?) (Yes, please.)

If there are any auto-translation terms/phrases that you feel must go, you can let us know too!

I think (L1 Button) is getting nervous.

While more additional sentences would surely be useful, if the dev team manages to add new stuff to the Auto-Translate then I'd focus mainly on in-games term.
Most of the post Abyssea stuff hasn't been auto-translated.
New Job Abilities, new Weapon Skills, new game content etc.

Could you perhaps get an API license to a translation service and incorporate it somehow?

Copy/paste will be great, from macros to talking past language barriers and more. I look forward to it being implemented.

For auto-translate, can we get a website that lists all the phrases in each language and the phrases you've posted on the FFXI website too? When we get copy/paste we can use this to augment the limited auto-translate dictionary, as well as use older terms that might get removed.

Another feature that would be a nice bonus would be auto-translate for the forums! It would be a nice testbed of phrases, and it would be a bit more fun then tagging things with Seagreen/Red tags to try to make it look like Auto-Translate. I think this might not be completely possible, but if it is, it would be great.

---

While the L1 button isn't particularly something I care for, the ×, ○, □, △ button translate has been long useful for making symbols, so make sure that is enterable via an ALT code for non-PC platforms, or at very least copy/pastable if you are removing it. I wouldn't say they're as important to FFXI's culture as certain other autotranslate phrases however.

Widescan would be another nice one to see, it doesn't seem to be in the game for some reason. It isn't high priority though, it isn't something widely said.

Well speaking of L1 Button getting nervous, I just want to point out like Economizer did that I've always enjoyed the use of O Button as many others as it offers a nicer visual than a cap O when describing that you've acquired something you're proud of or to say a short "yes, I have this" for search messages. Same for the X button and "No, I don't have this". For anyone that isn't aware you just find these under Controller menu, select them to AT and hit backspace to delete the word "button" so yeah. Some of the apparent useless ones do have an use but I suppose if they must go in favor of more communication convenience then may I suggest they be the very last ones to go in the hopes that they might be saved.

How about every relevant new JA/spell added since 76.

The majority of controller and keyboard commands can go, though some would need a sensible replacement as they have become the norm due to lack of correct commands. Eg. End Key needs replacing with 'finished' or something similar. Enter Key/ Start Button need replacing with 'Begin' or 'Let's go' or even just 'Enter' or 'Start'.

Useful game terms that I can think of to add:
"Please put your choice into your /seacom" or something like that.
"Kill the mob using Magic only"
"Kill the mob using Melee only"
"Kill the mob using Weapon Skills only"
"Kill the mob using Elemental WS only"
"Nuke!"
"Melee!"
"True Sight"
"True Sound"
"Avoid detection!"
"Maybe/perhaps"
"Next"

And lastly, some of the phrases used in ff14 were quite good, like "I had fun today" and "Let's play again some time."

Good suggestions, there, babekeke.

I thought I had posted a few things but it seems I might have closed the tab before posting it so here it is.

Auto-translations for all the new zones and events should probably be included, including but not limited to: All the Abyssea areas, Legion, Nyzul Isle Uncharted, Voidwatch. Terms to describe some of the gameplay elements introduced in these events should also be included, such as "azure light", "spectral alignment", "weakness triggering" (or whatever SE officially calls it).

Another thing that could be useful is having the various monster families available in auto-translate, such as "Amphiptere", "Uragnite", "Buffalo" "Vampyr", "Corpselight" and so on. Not individual monster names, just their subfamiliies. I would however not prioritize adding all monster families if the number of auto-translation slots is limited.

The above are all good suggestions. Personally I would like to see phrases added that matter most in critical situations such as void watch weaknesses. These would include:

-Newer weapon skills such as Sanguine Blade, Aeolian Edge etc.

-Newer spells and abilities such as: Emnity Douse, Bully, Blizzaja, etc

-Light colors, and tactics.
Example:
- ((Hold damage!)) ((Red)) ((Not complete.))

Inclusion of at least Provenence and Legion, currently Abyssea is easy enough to understand, but it is nearly impossible to form a group that spans languages for these two events. The closest I have seen for Provenence is something like: ((Crystal)) ((Dragon Killer)) and 3 ((cat))s.

I have not seen any cross-language legion groups because there is not a good way to describe what it is with auto-translate.

I personally do not think the system needs a grand overhaul, and it works quite well for many things, but the terms do need to be updated.

Why is star sybil in translate..... I'm guessing that original developers thought she would be a good gathering place?

(Are you alone?) I don't think has ever been used outside of being creepy.

Actually it's basically saying "are you already in a party or alliance?" Or "are you already in a linkshell?"

Particularly useful if you're contacting someone who is /anon, which does not provide the information of if someone is in a PT or solo.

After all, you don't want to seem like you're trying to gank party members from an existing party, right?
(If you're okay with doing that, this auto-translate phrase is not for you.)

If anyone is that curious, I typically see them ask (Party) (Do you need it?) (Do you have it?) rather than using (Are you alone?)

As mentioned before, (Are you alone?) is typically someone being creepy or immature because if it's used with anything else. (Meat) (Rod) (Do you need it?) follows. Trust me, being one of very small percentage of real omgwomen on the internet, it's a creeper question.

Get rid of "tree" "rose" "rock" and all of the controller-specific translates, especially "Xbox Guide Button".

I actually use (◯ Button) and (× button) so that I can use ◯ and × for "yes" and "no", but I would rather have those made autotranslate characters on their own, along with ☆ ★, which you can already do if you use the /translate function or see someone use the characters in translate.

Don't take away my pickup line :(

Also, why do JP players have more available auto-translate terms than NA players? If its a memory issue, it would apply to everyone. I frequently interact with a non-english speaking JP player who plays on a PS2 and his ability to converse with me is dramatically smoother than my ability to converse with him because he has more terms to use. What up with that?

{How?} {I'm interested}

What do you /translate to get these symbols?

One thing that could help free some space, and help make it a little more compact would be to remove some of the specific dynamis auto-trans, like {{Dynamis - Xarcabard}} and instead, just have {{Dynamis}} and follow it up by a zone. In the same vein, you can add the terms {{Abyssea}} and then we can just use the pre-existing zone auto-trans.

So terms...

"Dynamis"
"Abyssea"

Definitely add the newer weapon skills, and the newer spells.
Also more of the tactical questions and phrases for doing some of the newer events would be awesome.

those are in the translate actally and because of that, "Avoid detection!" may not be needed.

they are this:
detects by sound
detects by sight
detects by smell
detects by HP
detects spellcasting

This reminds me, "detects the use of job ability/weaponskill" should be added too.

Also I am siding with getting rid of [are you alone?] it may be fine in other languages but in English it is very creepy. "[Are you in a party]" "[Are you in a linkshell]" ,"[Are you solo?]", "[Do you have a linkshell?]" would be better sounding in English. there is "[Linkshell] [Do you need it?]" so I am a but confused why "are you alone?" would have to do with having a linkshell or not.

I also made another thread without seeing this one when I made it.
We need something like "[clear boss]" or "[Clear stage]" because English speakers are using [clear mind] to replace that and i would bet my FFXI account that makes no sense in other languages. In fact it makes little sense to me even because I know about the clear mind trait -.-

Any updates on if we will ever be able to copy/paste into the official windowed version of FFXI? It would help with communication and macros.

I wonder if a system implemented to just auto translate anything said from English to Japanese and vice versa in say/tell/shout/yell could ever be possible.
