Just a thought, but I seem to remember someone posting that SE will be losing 4 million for the month of April due to the servers being shutdown to conserve power. Now, I'm not sure how high the prices of gas are over in japan, But maybe SE could be using gas powered generators to power the servers b/c even if it costs 2mil for the gas for a month, at least they would be making money. just a thought xD

It won't matter. There will be hubs out of power that the game goes through to connect to the Internet. Just wait it out.

I'm sure if they got sources like that they are getting used for more important stuff atm, and it's probably still not enough, or Japan wouldn't be going through scheduled black outs.

GE had 3 truch-mounted turbine generators ready to go in Florida last night--were just waiting on air transport. 7 More are slated to go over shortly afterward. They can crank out up to roughly 60 MW each. So, combined, they will hopefully be able to replace the loss of the output of at least one reactor I think.. forget what each one was rated at. Bear in mind that these reactors only supplied like 30% of Tokyo's total power too, so once they can get the grid repairs done...hopefully this will knock out most if not all of the blackouts.

Not a perfect plan, and it will take time...but it's progress.

hydroelectricity, canada will hook you up.

edit: that being said, if there were alternative power sources, they would be best used for the same reason the servers were shut down, to conserve and reroute electricity in times of emergency.

Nice ideas guys, but remember they still don't have lines to connect to the mainland and recieve extra power yet.

I know there are company's that make profit from providing portable power generators, much like GE's turbines, It's just such a shame they aren't also providing support for the Japanese people.

Thumbs up to GE, and lets hope more companies send out some generators soon.

Actually they do have a line to connect to the mainland. Russia is sending 6,000 megawatts to them over it.

Would be more helpful if they could supply them with 1.21 gigawats. Then they could just fast forward through all this bad crap.

Why do you all not understand that they arent losing money for not having the servers up. No power=No cost to keep the servers active. They already got our March payment, and if the servers arent up and we are credited for April, theres really no loss at all. They arent losing money, there is no cost when there is no power, duh

There is loss now and in the future. The buildings still have maintenance, security has to be paid for and workers still have to be paid. Sure some are not coming in but if they work on salary they probably still get paid. I am sure there are other expenses such as loan payments etc. Not to mention they are paying for their sites in NA and in Europe.
All in all yes they are losing money. Not only are they losing money right now they will lose money when some people do not come back.
Now they are not putting their game servers on line for the game but that doesnt mean they dont have some people still working.

well they do a pretty good job of not letting us know an estimated time for server reinstatement. Im sick of looking every couple hours to find nothing in suspension of services section since march 13th

Why does everyone think FFXI is their only revenue? I guess they never publish or release anything else. i must be living under a rock.

Ignoring the things that have already been mentioned, they could be making money, but they aren't. That's called a loss. Obviously you've never heard of opportunity cost.

Well if you notice how quickly they informed us of the outage after the first reactor incident, just consider that they'd probably tell us ASAP if something was going to delay it further. Maybe they are going to stick it out and bring the server back up at the end of the week. Call it wishful thinking, but I think they'd not wait until the last minute. They haven't been very reliable in the past sometimes, but I don't think they're *trying* to tick us all off.

You obviously never studied business. They still have to pay overhead costs. The cost of renting the buildings they're in, paying taxes on the land if they own it, paying the salaries of the employees for this time off, etc. SE IS losing money, which is why they should be using this time to build servers in California and run this game from the US as a back up plan. Remember they are also losing any earned income for providing a free subscription in the month of April, and that's if this game is back up and running by then. Not to mention the countless number of people that will probably not return because they discovered something else to do.

They're losing money on FFXIV right now too. They also cannot produce ANY other games they make, no Research and Developement is taking place. They are losing money in more ways then one. FFXI and FFXIV were great sources of revenue for SE...

Remember the Japan office isnt the only one, Im sure they are still hard at work on Deus Ex stateside, they were never making money off 14. Not releasing Deus Ex and the failing 14 were this years losses for them. They have multiple IPs, and whatnot they are still making money off of, All i was stating is that everyone around here seems to think they are going to sink because of FFXI being down.

I was never saying that they were making money. I was just pointing out to all the chicken littles that they arent sinking.

i can´t understand you, don´t you have a real life? there is much more to worry about than when we will be able to play again. and if it helps we should be happy to pay our accounts even without playing, take it as a helping gesture for people suffering and let´s pray everything comes to a good end.
ooops lol this was meant to mordanthos

yes they are starting to get some good support with their hydro problem which is just great for everyone. That will make peoples lives a little easier & put some hope into everyone's hearts.

Now a bit off topic:

I have heard people say this time & time again "No Severs, No Money Lost". Well that is not all true. They will still have to pay their ISP bill (even when it is not being used) Their lease on the building, workers will be using their sick days/holidays & what ever money they are in debt(the interest etc) Etc..... not to mention what ever else Japan makes they pay for ( not totally aware if they have land taxes, Employment insurance, workers compensation etc....)

So it does sound good saying they are not losing any money but in reality all companies are losing a fortune by not having the business up & running. Just think about Toyota, Honda & such, My mother in-law no longer has over time at the Toyota plant in Ontario, Canada due to the fact that their parts to build cards come from japan, so they have enough stock to work for just over a month but then they are screwed.

Just some stuff to think about ^^
