I thought I would start a thread where you can get some tips on how to solo abysea NMs from beast master perspective, keep it short and simple and hopefully an inspiration to fellow beast masters out there. We know already certain jug pets excel vs certain monsters, but there are still others jugs that perhaps not as widely used. If you wanna give more reasoning please do.

For examples:

Amhuluk - Abysea Misareux
Jug Pets used: Dipper Yully
Resist wind, high evasions.
Ready: Spiral Spin
Atma used: Ducal Guard, Razed Ruin, Mounted Champion or Stronghold
Notes: Extremely easy, only need 4-5 pet food, great to bring blm along to proc yellow.

Sedna - Abysea Vunkerl
Jug Pets used: Gooey Gerard or Fatso Fargam
Resist water damage
Ready: Corrosive Ooze
Atma used: Ducal Guard, Razed Ruin, Mounted Champion or Stronghold
Notes: Normal, harder to proc as blm, NM spams magic and tp moves

Cirein-Croin - Abysea Misareux
Jug Pets used: Dipper Yully or Faithful Falcor
High evasion
Ready: Spiral Spin or Fantod
Atma used: Ducal Guard, Razed Ruin, Mounted Champion or Stronghold
Notes: Normal, easy to proc yellow by the mages, make sure to cast gravity, take care of its Deathgnash move and be ready with reward, dawn mulsum, or healing salve.

Feel free to add more, thanks!!

Atma used: Ducal Guard, Razed Ruin, Mounted Champion or Stronghold, can also use Future Fabulous for Magic Defense.
Notes: Normal, have good amount of pet food and dawn mulsum for emergency, spikes can be deadly as well as Thunder spells.

Itzpapalotl - Abysea Attohwa
Jug Pets used: Dipper Yully or Faithful Falcor
High evasion
Ready: Spiral Spin or Fantod
Atma used: Ducal Guard, Razed Ruin, Mounted Champion or Stronghold, also can use Future Fabulous

Thanks Luv. That's a nice easy format you put together. I'm still gathering gear for my Bst before I decide to go "hunting" but this will be helpful.

Anyone else has some information on jug pets elemental resistance, other than what is already known in the community? Is there one that resist ice, earth, or thunder?

Anyone else has some information on jug pets elemental resistance, other than what is already known in the community? Is there one that resist ice, earth, or thunder?

- According to Wiki Mandies are resistant to Light element... I do not think any tests have been done with our 76+ Mandy jug.

- Wiki says Adamantoise (NM not jug) is resistant to both Earth and Water. I can verify that jug resists water, but I have seen him take a beating from earth nukes so I'm iffy on that.

- It was suggested that raptor was resistant to Fire, but he was completely demolished by Ansherekh's fire nukes (NM tiger in Altepa [A] that spams high lv fire magic). Orthrus also made quick work of raptor jug. I highly doubt raptor has any fire resist... he also has very weak defense and lousy/worthless TP abilities.

- I cannot think of any jug pets (or even pets in the wild) that are naturally resistant to Fire, Ice, and Thunder elements.

If any of you are going for Colorless Souls to upgrade Shield/Instrument Emps, Ogopogo (Leviathan) is easily soloable by Slug.

BST/NIN
Atma: MG+RR+DC
Ogopogo has a Aura -100 hp/tick poison but it only last a few seconds after each nukes. You will need all your Temp. meds to recover HP. Have pet fight monster from front, while you fight from behind (far enough so AOE magic will not hit you) Pop a recovery Temp. med every time you're at ~45% HP and you wont need to worry about the -100 hp/tick. It is important to snarl every time you can and to not pull hate. Grand Fall will more than likely 1-shot you if you pull hate. +20 Regen from MG, an additional Regen from Reward+very high water resist will help keep pet alive. Use reward whenever it is up, bring ~3 Dawns for good measure and have a Healing Salve I on hand for emergencies. When NM is 1% it will 2 HR (NM cannot die until it uses 2 HR), at this time make sure your pet has enough HP to survive 2-HR and make sure you are out of range. Fight is about ~15 mins... I soloed all my souls this way at level 95 so it should be even easier now.

Seems like Summoner + Beast combo would be a very nice complementary one fighting Abyseaa NMs. Thanks for the info Mavrick.

As well as over 21 pages of discussion of beast solo but the information is way too chaotic to sort through:

OK this one is not Abyssea related but it's worth sharing.

BCNM - Early Bird Catches the Wyrm
Balga's Dais - Orb: Themis Orb (99 Kindred's Seals) VS Wyrm
This is the BCNM for one of the Black Belt items.

Jug Pets: Gooey Gerard
What to bring: Tavnazian Tacos, eat it, reraise items, some mp recovery items or hp recovery items.
What to subs: Red Mage or White Mage or Scholar
What to cast: Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Barfira
Recommended set up: 2 x Beastmaster (use slug's pet) and 1 Magic Damage job, can also be Summoner using Leviathan.
Notes: The Wyrm has two modes, while on the ground, Gerard will deal nice damage, while he is up in the air, cast magic or have Summoner use Grand Fall, since it is weak to water, Leviathan can dish 1700-2500 ish damage. He won't take damage from your jug pets while it is on the air.
Extreme caution: You need to always have your stoneskin, blink, phalanx up at all times, non negotiable for taru especially - very deadly. Barfira must be up at all times. Take care before you go in to use Ready or Reward.

BCNM - Horns of War
Horlais Peak - Orb: Themis Orb (99 Kindred's Seals) VS Behemoth
This is the BCNM for one of the Black Belt items.

Jug Pets: Gooey Gerard

What to subs: Red Mage or White Mage or Scholar
What to cast: Blink, Stoneskin, Phalanx, Refresh
Recommended set up: 2 x Beastmaster (use slug's pet)
Notes: Nothing major, reward when needed, avoid Meteor AOE.
Extreme caution: You need to always have your stoneskin, blink, phalanx up at all times. Take care before you go in to use Ready or Reward and not get caught in Meteor AOE, very easy battle.

BCNM - The Hills Are Alive
Waughroon Shrine - Orb: Themis Orb (99 Kindred's Seals) VS Tartaruga Gigante
This is the BCNM for one of the Black Belt items.

Jug Pets: Gooey Gerard
What to bring: Attack food, eat it, reraise items, some hp recovery items. Int food for the mages, mp recovery items, echo drops x 12-24.
What to subs: Dancer
Recommended set up: 2 x Beastmaster (use slug's pet), 3 Magic Damage jobs (Sch, Rdm, Blm)
Notes: Do not attack from the front, have both pets attack from the front and stay at the back side at all times. Try to stun its casting. Have red mage to cast silence at it and it needs to land it. While he is inside the shell, he will not move at all, but he will regen with alarming rate and has massive defense. Mages need to cast Ice based spells to force it out of the shells. Rdm should cast silence and dispel its harden shell tp move. When he is out of shell you can dish out your WS, have tp when self curing is needed, unless Rdm can help with that.

The Ironclad Smiter in Altepa is a rather easy duo with Falcorr, he'll heal your pets more often than not so it isn't a requirement to ride Reward timers.Just set pets on the far side of him and stand far enough away from his AoE. It'll take awhile, so you can entertain yourself by running naked circles around the inevitable group of people who will gather at your camp to complain that you are unable to kill the NM in 30 seconds. Nazuna is a decent alternative to Falcorr if using Run Wild, that old girl takes hits ike a champ.

LMAO, way to irk the loathsome from those beast haters out there if we hog the IC. How is it that it heals Falcor though? I know it has a move that cuts your hp down to half, any thoughts on this? Just wondering, since if beast can tank it, would not mind bringing black mage and blue mage along with summoner to get it done fast for the seals drop.

Arm Cannon randomly heals Falcorr, not sure if it does the same for any other pets, I didn't notice Nazuna dying too fast so it may have worked for her as well, but for the most part all you have to do is set your pets on the far side of the NM and stand behind it away from Seismic Impact and Reward as needed. Both of us had Zeta biscuits, you don't have to get fancy. Don't forget to pack shades, the hate is thick out there.

To be honest, Hippo and Ladybug can solo every single Abyssea mob except Rani, Melo-Melo, Buukis (might be possible), that stupid Eye from Konschtat and that Skeleton from Grauberg.
Happy Hunting!

pretty sure its not healing any pet. max hp down.

Delvish
07-30-2012, 07:44 PM
That would make sense. HP% goes up but the max HP goes down. We just can't see max HP.
Using that logic, keeping the pet's HP lower on purpose would not be a very bad idea.
