SE: I know given some of the threads on the forum atm that it may appear that there are lots of people who dislike Abyssea, but I wanted to offer a word of thanks for making such an enjoyable facet of the game.

It's a nice breath of fresh air for a game in its late years that has certainly prevented me from throwing in the towel for good.

It has a little something for everyone:

1) Easy exp acquisition for the masses without spending weeks/months so we can do other things
2) Making a quick but slightly more difficult way to obtain seals, and a longer, albeit easy way for any casual player to acquire them too. Obviously, +2 acquisition is harder, but by an appropriate amount.
3) Reintroducing JSE in a way that benefits each job in a unique way, both optimizing performance and creating new avenues of play
4) Coming up with additional gear aside from AF3
5) Removing the system of needing an alliance to effectively do EG content, replacing it with a system that's much easier to do with less people/organization
6) Making empyrean weapons for those that want to walk out from Abyssea with something truly gamechanging, but do not take an enormous amount of time or gil to make. Yes repop timers and claiming of certain NM's can get annoying, but the end product is still worth the effort.
7) Even clever ideas like light acquisition, weakness targeting, and using mythology in the methods used to pop Myrmecoleon (I still think that's incredibly brilliant) are all things foreign to your FFXI base that you let figure out on their own

Please don't take what many people are saying on this forum too seriously, I think the direction Abyssea has taken FFXI into is fantastic. It's not 'too easy' and not 'too hard', but different for a change. And I'd be remiss if someone didn't properly thank you for keeping your playerbase interested! So Bravo! I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys have up your sleeves for us in the years to come...

I do love abyssea. It has a lot to offer to both casual and hardcore. I have joined an abyssea LS that is filled with people way more hardcore than I ever was but it has been an exciting experience for me if at times I am reminded how lacking I am in skills.
What is really great about abyssea is that it can accommodate everyone from hardcore leechers to hardcore gamers. Even with all the griping toward each group they still manage to play the game in ways that each likes. Ironic isnt it.

Abyssea is fun..for end game style playing. i do enjoy meriting my level 90 in those zones. however i wish there was more parties outside of it...for my lower level jobs... :(

Considering that only people playing the game can post here I'd say a lot do and not "may" do.

@Dodge, I agreed about all you said until this part:

You have to take time to realize what people complain about, is not the great work DEV did in abyssea, we all happy about it... Is more about the lack of challenge the game offer now, and everyone is worry about how FFXI will turn in future. My position did not change from thread to thread....

I don't mind SE make more event more available to casual player like what they did for E.Wep, is clearly a good replacement for dynamis relic weapon, but at the point to destroy dynamis just because is not 'abyssea style', give me a break...

Again i don't mind see player with good gear (is actually good for everyone, no more need refuse a good friend just because his gear sux) BUT THAT WOULD BE NICE IF SE MAKE SOMETHING STUPID AS JUST CHANGING THE COLOR OF THE ARMOR. So in the end same stats just different look from hardcore and casual player. You wan look like a brownies in your gear fine, go do abyssea. You wan look like all gold'ish in your armor then take the hard path.

FFS, stop this infinite QQ about how is unfair that hardcore player ask for more....

Not sure if that's sound logic. The community on this new forum are only a small portion of the entire playerbase. Most of the people I engage on our server have a generally positive attitude towards Abyssea.

My husband started the game not long ago. Sometimes we duo but mostly he solos because he does not feel comfortable in parties with other people. He likes the game but he has never played any kind of game like this before. Card games are really what he likes best. Its interesting to me how he does his exp. He has made a number of characters and he plays them mostly as war/monk. At first I did not understand why but now it is more clear. He feels he needs to understand what in the world he is doing before he gets leveled any higher. So he plays one till exp band wears then goes to next character.
Now I am not saying this is how others should play. Far from it. What I do want to point out is that you can play the game and learn the game in a whole lot of different ways. All have drawbacks and all have good points. Just because we have abyssea doesnt mean the rest of the game is no good any more. I think this is FFXI's greatest plus. :D So much to do and so little time to do it!!

As side note, that probably DEV wont like to read.....

WoW always been softcore game, where casual player can progress with ease in it, is reason they been so popular, and FFXI been hardcore and is reason that ive been playing this game instead WoW....

I have a scoop for you, WoW are actually adding more hardcore content, WITHOUT removing the casual content they already had. So ya while WoW are actually balancing they system to make everyone happy, i feel like FFXI is turning the game into what WoW was before.

I do not disapprove more 'easy' content, not at all, but i disapprove the lack of challenge at all point in the game. Of course everyone will reply: you don't know what SE waiting us @ 99, my answer on that is simple too: I HOPE IS NOT ALL 'TOO EASY'

i agree with this 100% i enjoy abit of easiness myself. but too much just makes the game boring.

I do like aspects of abyssea, but i feel its hurting new players having the entery at 30. I was poking around in the new player section and i really have to agreee what i see there, abyssea is kinda anti new player and should be raised.

abyssea exp rate and entery is ment for people that know the game already, not new players.

You see that now the fun of FFXI, is now available for casual player, what going to happen with him when he success all that and find out he need a better challenge? That the problem imo, is all fine with me to have nice zone like abyssea, but trust me eventually everyone will end to ask more, so all this is just a time bomb until everyone get tire of it.

All sorts of players play this game. My husband considers what he does a lot of challenge. He is 'game challenged' lol. Still there is no reason for him not to enjoy it how he does.
In the beginning I was 'game challenged' as well. Some might say I still am!
What I see in abyssea is that it is developing. Compare La Theine to Grauberg. Who knows what is in store for 99. Abyssea is as hard or as easy as you want to make it. Go solo tier 3 on whm or bard if you want a challenge. Ok I am not really serious about that but it might be interesting.

Maybe, just maybe, SE got enough flack for the bad press they got over the original AV/PW fights lasting over half of a day and decided that they needed to make other areas of the game seem more accessible. They do have a disclaimer at the start that warns you against allowing the game to monopolize your time. There's exponentially more casual players than there are hardcore gamers. Abyssea allows the people who have 75's from playing for 5 years to level them and still do others things. It also allows you to change the dynamic of the game to something that completely changes personal view of what the game has been. Why do you think they put the tnl past 75 so low by comparison? The amount of time required to level a higher job past 75 would be absurd if it ended up 75k/level finishing at 100k at 99. I've known people in HNM who would work for 6 months, then get fired, and draw unemployment in order to stay home and help their shells claim. At that point the game takes on a whole other form. Abyssea, in a business sense, is one of the best things they could have done. Now people can advance without complete obsession.

Abyssea is really awesome for getting a party on a level 30 job, going AFK for a couple hours, and then coming back to find out you are level 90.

Really just wish I could do this at level 1 however...

Last time i played was in january (except to sell some gear and give away the gil in early feb). Feel free to check ffxiah (ahou, quetz) if you don't believe me.

And like i mentioned, i know people who have mule accounts that could be used to make new accounts here. That isn't really uncommon really.

I'll add my own kudos to Square Enix for a great job on their abyssea expansions. They are well done with a tremendous amount of reward and in-depth gameplay attached - not to mention hours and hours of good challenging fun. So any praise you get for abyssea is well-earned.

Abyssea is a nice addition to FFXI but it just feels that's what everyone ever does now. No More HNMs, Sky, Sea, or even Walk of Echoes which I love WoE by the way, it's pretty fun.
