Title Rank For Post Count
Many a day were I would sit during long hours of work to type up a short thread, response, or whatever came to mind. One of the main attractions to this was that I was awarded a post count title as my posts went up. For example, in the gears of war forums, once reaching 100 posts, you will see a small title under your avatar. We once had a forum user of the GoW reach 10,000 posts. This earned him the well deserved title of (seriously...)
So why have titles?
Titles help increase forum post counts, threads, and replies. Thus giving more feedback to your community. There are plenty of forums that use post count titles, and I would love to see original titles given to your forum users.
For example, once reaching 100 posts, have a title (Prestige Knight) or something like that. Another is upon reaching 10,000 posts, have (Vana'diel Conqueror)
So would this encourage spamming?
Not really. Forum Moderators check for spamming and threads. Other forum sites like gears of war use this also, and there is a strict rule on spamming, same as these forums.
What do you users think? Would this be a cool edition to the forums? A small edition yes, but awesome none the less.

I get the feeling this would only encourage spam and needless +1 posts that don't contribute anything to the conversation; case in point, this one.
As someone who has managed nearly 30k posts over on alla before, i support this.

I think this is a silly idea. We don't need rank titles and we don't need post karma.

No. It keeps you from being rewarded for posting, which means you'll probably keep the posting to more necessary chat.
Think they intend these forums for game ideas, feedback, complaints, etc, all game related stuff, not E-Peen boosting like on zam.
Post count mean nothing at all, at this point better put a +/- button and have a rating about what you post, that would mean way more then the total post you did. But i doubt SE would do this option also, because is too easy to discredit opinion from someone by only clicking on a +/- without any argument. If SE did this forum it was to know general opinion and not only how about people like you or not.
You were banned from Alla, Rog :(
But i still have over 29k posts :(
No. It keeps you from being rewarded for posting.
Just having a chance DEV read my post, is already a nice reward for me. This is not a contest of who post the most or who is most loved on forum...
*Edit* i can already smell the little 'click' that slowly build over all thread and ready to discredit everything with not argument, please no thanks, if the forum about to be lead by those player, then this forum worth nothing better then Zam, BG, and so on.

And no karma either, because then anyone who has a genuine complaint about a feature everyone loves will be rated down into oblivion like on zam. Even if its a good constructive post. As will anyone who defends the feature. It's just a stupid thing.

I think some of you are confused. Its a small title that just says a name after reaching a certain amount of posts. Not a complaint feature or pro/con thread things. Although I do see sides of not rewarding to stay on topic. Pro and cons to both sides.
Alternatively, they could also just give stars.

We can see that big number next to your "posts" Rog. Wherever you go, the posts will follow. Alla needs you, you don't need alla.
It's cool i guess, since here i can say i have more posts than anyone

He was banned from Alla, FFXI itself and BG. Suprised he is still here.
Imo the title thing is kinda stupid and would without a doubt encourage spamming, no matter what anyone says. Posts saying "I agree with op" or w/e would spring up all over the place. These forums are already a little moronic lets not make it worse.

There are too many people who literally seek forums out that have to do with areas they either are or that think they are knowledgeable in just to "help" others. By help, I mean a competition or race to see who can post the answer first, leading to post/comment counts and this higher "status" that you speak of. Valuable, small points that could have built up a more concrete reply, or facts from those who feel truly confident in the subject being questioned over versus those who think they might know and just post quickly to take a shot at it and the additional "bonuses" will be entirely missed. On top of this, more topics about absolute nonsense will arrive, with people perpetuating them consistently, as that's something almost anyone can "relate" and reply to.
It seems like a good idea, but after a while (or a short time, for those who are already involved in this sort of thing elsewhere) people will lose sight of the original intention of the forum if they get caught up in big numbers and forum bling.

I think we should give the SE forums a chance before we start asking them to make it more like other forums. If you want to be on alla, xiah, or bg right now go do that instead (or keep them all open and check in on them lol).

Nah, not really. Wanting it because you had it somewhere else is different than "a good idea." People want to move into a new house but won't live there unless they paint it up to look like the old house. That's not innovation, that's renovation.

This would support posts such as that.

What? I didn't say it was a good idea. I said it seems like one, as in it probably seems appealing to those who aren't really thinking over the ramifications of it.
It seems like a good idea, but...
If you were responding to the part that said...
...but after a while (or a short time, for those who are already involved in this sort of thing elsewhere)...
I had said that in lieu of the fact that those who were used to this system would become accustomed to it quickly. Never said it was a good thing.
