Ballista Revolution (http://vyiv.wordpress.com/) ;)

I just want to throw this word out there to any remaining or new Ballista players so that they can be better informed of the current situation.

♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦

I'm hoping to get a community established on the test server for those that can't server hop to Carbuncle (http://vyiv.wordpress.com/), Phoenix (http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/33640/50000000g-bounty) or Lakshmi(I don't have an applicable link here - but it's a server known for 99 cap Official Matches now, reminiscent of old Fenrir.)

This (http://www.vanatime.de.vu/) is the program I use regarding the official match schedule.

♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦♣♦

For those really dedicated, we run a LS that focuses on playing with JP players in the diorama.

Welcome to Ballista Revolution (http://vyiv.wordpress.com/2012/08/03/welcome-to-ballista-revolution/)
—Written by Teishi

It has come to our attention that some players may view this website or our videos but never come forward and present themselves. Even several of our current members admit that they were shy and hesitant before introducing themselves to us. As the group leader, I really want to make it clear that we want you to come play Ballista! Even if you’ve never played a single match or don’t have any level 60 gear, it doesn’t matter. Take that first step, and I guarantee you’ll enjoy what we have to offer.

P.S. To those who may have quit FFXI or have lost interest in the grind, consider trying Ballista. With us, Ballista is a completely separate game from FFXI. The mechanics and strategies are totally different. You can have a fresh start in a whole ‘new game’, and your hard earned gil and job levels give you a nice head start!

I used to Ballista everyday back in the day, I loved it! tournaments, titles, watching whm/nin rule the battlefield. I'd love nothing more then to see it revived

I'd love to just return to when it was brand new. Some of those first matches were awesome. I think the first day on Shiva we had a couple of matches with over 100 players.

=\ Now I can shout for an hour and maybe find 2 people that want to play.

They should make a Ballista server that works similar to the test server, where you register a copy of your character's data to play that doesn't carry over to your primary character.

They'd only really need to include the Diorama zones, so you'd just log in, pick a Diorama, fight people. One of the main reasons people don't do Ballista is the lack of interest. But if there was a separate server where you can just pop in and have a match at any time, and against players from every server, there would be a lot more participation.

I would think if they Upped the rewards both Exp and Gil and maybe add item rewards, people would do it again. GoV brought life back to some zones, so the same should hold true for ballista

Alhanelem

A cross-server system would make it a lot easier to pick up and play without forcing every ballista fan to dogpile onto one server. It's pretty much the primary reason I don't hook up with this, I already know people too well on one server and don't want to switch. =\

Cmon SE, give the game a little love.

Berserkr replaced Vyii as MNK/WAR in the last match, all because of a serious case of the munchies..

Shout-out to Kalifornia—yes, indeed spelled with a 'K'—for being a total baller and such.

There seems to be a black screen from time 1:15:54 to 1:16:30, and I'm not quite sure how that happened (I do apologize that Youtube does not currently have functional links for hourly time stamps). During this time, I continued to pursue Desuyo after expending some of my job abilities and landed a few hits on him. Carefully calculating the delay between my attacks, he succeeded in casting bind on me. However, the bind only lasted for a second or two but gave him enough time to escape to the tunnel, waiting for the next rook move with his handful of petras ready. Unfortunately for him, the new rook spawned near the Herald. Since he was already fairly far away, I disengaged and began heading back to the Herald in the westward direction.

Imagination :D:D

If I figure out what the problem is, perhaps I could upload it again to remove the black screen. Also, if possible, please let me know if uploading whole reservations like such or individual matches like originally is preferred. Thanks.

Enjoy, let us know what you think~ :o

38:08 - The P-turn:
I must give Pik credit for pulling such an innovative maneuver. That's the first time that I've ever seen anyone use that shortcut in an actual game, let alone making such practical and effective use out of it. Thus, history has been made, as I title that stunt the P-turn.

I play DRK(and WAR) on an alternate character to supplement combat and magic merit distribution.
My experience with DRK is not very strong; thus please avert your eyes to some obvious mistakes D: With that being said, DRK is -the- busiest DD when it comes to competitive diorama games and the multitude of tasks presented is rather overwhelming considering you're target #1.

Once again, another installment of our hako reservation, this time featuring PLD.

Playing PLD in this type of setting is pretty interesting, choosing when and who to cure is of the utmost importance. Likewise PLD has a large responsibility of guarding the rook, as well as scoring a large amount of petras. It is similar to DRK in a few ways, as you need to be able to juggle your offensive and defensive stance.

The equipment set that I am using in this particular game is my pre-hyper damage set - a very risky set used to goad the enemy into killing you(hyper activation). With how the game was setup, killing the ranger and paladin would have been detrimental. Running the risk of the ranger achieving hyper was too high. However, as can be seen, the opposing team's ranger was disposed of, this was a risky decision, but it worked out in the end.

For this reservation, I was able to record only one game out of 5.
As can be seen, we had 3 rangers in total, so we had to cycle rangers for each game.

Having re-worked my macro quite recently, I found myself scrambling profusely x_X

Fourth game of the series. The first three games were simply depressing, so I decided that it would be pointless to upload them. After the first three rounds of lopsidedness, Sayomi senselessly blamed his team's losses on equipment, claiming that they couldn't do anything against us due to our higher defenses. Heeding his accusation, my team decided to remove our head, body, hands, legs, and feet pieces, subtracting well over 100 defense in gear. For whatever reason, Ryolen, who was on the opposing team, wanted to join our 'no pants' party, but regardless of our nude play, the results of the match were still the same.

This is my story~

Like most FFXI players, I cherished the many challenges of the game since I first started playing, from completing the subjob quest to limit breaks. After hours upon hours and days upon days of tedious play, I finally reached the maximum job level, found myself a loving linkshell, and was able to participate in the endgame events in which I always dreamed of doing. However, those endgame days were short lived and slowly faded away, as I found a new purpose of playing FFXI.
I found Ballista.

When I first started playing, it was a blast, killing friends and foes on the blood-stained battlefield. It was an experience like no other. Of course, it wasn't always fun and games. I had my share of the bitter taste of defeat several times, but that didn't stop me from playing. In fact, those defeats motivated me to improve as a player. Over time, though, as new features were introduced to the game, the majority of the few who played Ballista gradually returned to endgame. I admit that even I did. Soon, the thought of Ballista escaped my conscious mind, but I always had a feeling that it was still lurking somewhere within my cloud of thoughts.

I was bored one day, browsing through many different sites on multiple windows of Google Chrome: Facebook, Gmail, Youtube, Redtube, etc. Somehow, I ended up doing a Google search for Ballista and came across a variety of Ballista videos. Most of them were of seemingly senseless '1 on 1 duels', but I stumbled upon some that just blew my mind away. They were from a Ballista LS known as BallistaRevolution, and from there, I was linked to their LS website. I discovered something completely out of the ordinary. Ballista teamplay? There are actually people who do this?

Immediately, I became a fan of their work and wanted to join their Ballista community. Although we were on different servers, I paid the transfer fee and hopped over to theirs without any regret. At first, I was a bit hesitant to speak with them; they seemed to play at an entirely different league than what I was used to. Eventually, I summoned what little courage I had at the time and went for the touchdown. Talking with them turned out easier than I originally thought. After introducing myself, my motives, and goals, my chances of joining their LS seemed more than likely, or so I thought. My Ballista aptitude was tested... rook guard, hyper, third eye ws dodging.. sprint ws dodging, poison>sleep timing.. communication... it was like a game within a game, but rather one so much deeper.

Currently, I'm a proud member of BallistaRevolution, a well-respected LS within the Ballista community.

I just wanted to share with everyone my passion for Ballista, and how those varieties of events influenced me.

I realize that this post is fairly long and completely understand if it was skimmed, but regardless, I humbly thank you for your time in hearing me out.

For anyone kind enough(or bored enough!) to click on this thread, I thank you =)

Similarly, I would like to pose a few questions apropos~

1) Were you aware that FFXI has a PvP system?
2) Do you enjoy PvP style gameplay?
3) Do you have a "Ballista License"?
4) Have you ever tried Ballista?
4a) What did you not like about it?
4b) What did you like about it?
5) Would you support a Ballista update, or would you rather prefer a new PvP system?

Thanks for reading, and consequently answering any question(s)!

This is so wrong haha. NA don't "win" at Ballista because all they want to do is kill each other (epeen etc.). This is not because they don't know how to play, but because this is all they want to do, which makes perfect sense to me. If I'm going to engage in PvP, I don't care if my team wins the match, I only care if I'm better than that other guy who might be better than me. Apparently JPs actually care about winning.

While you are correct in your interpretation of PvP; it doesn't begin to describe Ballista. The best I can tell you is that PvP is a direct antonym of Ballista.

FFXI Ballista バリスタ Lakshmi SAM POV ((FULL)) Jugner! 06/21/2012 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rocLWXLobc0)
My first official "99" cap Ballista~
I used to play uncap matches all the way up to level 90, but since then, I haven't had a chance to participate.

I fumbled with my macro so much, I wasn't even sure how to approach the mass arsenal of job abilities and weaponskills that I had at my disposal..
So as you can tell, I played my 99 samurai, as a 60 cap samurai, lol.
Adjusting to the damage parameters wasn't an issue, but as witnessed my body boost dropped incredibly fast versus the one man army DD that approached me @@; I wasn't very prepared for the match in terms of macro management, and food selection, but everything seemed to work out in the end!

This match was poised to be a 5v4, but thanks to Zahara who dropped to make it even, the match was converted into a 4v4 with 2 rooks. I'm never a fan of the 2 rook system, especially in a match of this size as it promotes tactics that I personally would never use.

I chose to exclude music from this video, let me know if this is preferred!

Enjoy~

They should make a Ballista server that works similar to the test server, where you register a copy of your character's data to play that doesn't carry over to your primary character.

Better yet, make a server accessible from your own, this in lames terms is cross-server access(unlike registering for the test server), once your in-game and you start a quest up until you complete that curtain quest, your registered! People get online to play with others, not wait-and-see for a time to team up! That's why there's so many multiplayer games on the markets now!

I don't mind going up to and NPC (with or without a party) and checking if there's open slots for PvP(...say like at the colosseum), along as i don't have to log off and log back on somewhere else, lol! . This is good enough for me instead of all the 'other' hassle. SE plans this same very concept for FFXIV v.2.0. Hopefully it'll be a game breaking experience with the PvP everyone was dyeing for so long, with much sportsmanship and still have fun.

In regards to the the test server, Undine. Please respond to this thread if possible to acknowledge your participation(or PM me) - otherwise, show up at the times listed and we'll go from there. I won't personally be able to attend every match, however the stage is set, and everyone needs to do their part~

This (http://www.vanatime.de.vu/) is the program I use regarding the official match schedule.

What I really want to see is Ballista changed to an event where each side has a fort, and a huge ballista. Players have to equip a football helmet, and then use the ballista when it's cooldown is done to load themselves, aim, and get fired at the other fort in an attempt to knock it's walls down first.

To everyone who has read my Ballista related threads and posts, I sincerely thank you; the continued support has given me the motivation to continue for this long :)

There is a lot of love for this event, and my only wish is for the rest of the FFXI community to take over where the devs failed, and make this a player run event.

I know that it has been a while, but I got a new video up. This time, I've added a brief analysis of what's going on during various time stamps, and hopefully, this will give more casual players some insight of what's occuring during the match.

Posting to show support for FFXI PvP and Ballista. I had made this thread (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/7949-Reviving-PvP-Ballista) a long while ago. The thread mainly had to do with trying to make PvP more popularized for the general player base.

Again I'm still considering transferring servers to get in on the Ballista action, still deciding or I may just make another character.
