I recently just re-bought FFXI off of steam with all the new add-ons and i transferred my account like they wanted. I even set a password for my PLAY ONLINE password, however when I enter it I get error: POL-5312 saying my password is wrong however it is not.

I looked up past threads on this but I've had no luck from those.

Just to rule it out, are you sure you are entering the proper password for the login requested.

FFXI is layered. There is a POL password and an SE ID, PLUS the token if you are using that. The POL gets saved, and you enter in your SE ID password and Token if activated.

Some possible scenarios, the POL pass wasn't saved properly, or you are entering the wrong password (ie POL pass) for your SE ID sign on.

Yes, I am 100% sure I am using the correct password. I have two different ones, one to just log into the ID and the other one to log in to POL itself. I just uninstalled the steam version and installed the POL from SE and still have no luck. I also do not have a token.

Also when I purposely put in the wrong password it does not show an error, it just says that it's wrong. Only when I type the correct one does it give me that error.

My other thought is that I just reactivated everything last night, could it be possible it takes time for POL to let me back on? (Everything has been paid)

I am now getting error 5311. Which is saying it's the wrong password still. However it changes between 5311 and 5312.

Are you sure the pID is correct, as in if it contains an O/0 that you're using the correct one.

I had this error on an old account when I used 0 instead of O by mistake. (same for any other letters that look similar)

Yes, because I had to transfer it last night. All the info it should be about my toons/expansions where correct before I quit the game so my pID is correct. I think I just need to call on monday when they are open.

did you double check you POL login setting and make sure POL isn't set to use one-time password? This was something that was an issue back when everyone started linking accounts....think it was getting toggled on by default.

Launch POL, pick your name, and then click the settings button on the left to get to the change settings panel. At top will b e your Member name, POL ID,, the Set Password option, and so forth. At the bottom will be a section for your SE ID and there is a toggle there for using tthe one-time password.

Also, need to make sure the saved POL data on your system is in synch with what is saved at the SE Account Management page. People have mistyped thier password in one of these two places, and this was where the error was getting tripped.

Nope, not set as one time password.

Lets get this straight though. My POL-ID and my SE-ID are the same, correct? When I log into SE account management it requires my SE-ID so I know that is correct.

no...POL ID is different from your SE ID. The POL ID is assigned by the system, and will be something like ABCD1234.

Ah, now where getting somewhere. So where do I find my SE ID? I've had this POL ID for years now. I do not ever remember a SE ID being issued back when I played.

Your SE ID is what you created for the site.

OLD System:

Member ID (User Generated)
POL ID (System Generated)

You created a new SE ID for use with the SE Account management system and these forums. This is the account that you have to link your POL ID with to be able to play FFXI now.

Sign into the SE AM System and go to "List Options Continued Automatically". At the top, you will see a drop box for selecting your linked ID's, displayed as:

Playonline/Final Fantasy XI: ABCD1234 [Region]

If you scroll down towards the bottom, you will see buttons for updating information. Click the button to update your password and make sure it is the same one that is saved under your Playonline settings for the game in the top section of the login settings (not the middle part, that is a local password for launching POL, the top part is for authenticating to the server). If these two saved passwords (one in SE system, and your POL settings) are not in synch, it will trip the 53xx errors.

Ah, now where getting somewhere. So where do I find my SE ID? I've had this POL ID for years now. I do not ever remember a SE ID being issued back when I played.

It should go:

Member Name: Whatever!

*Playonline ID: ABCD1234

*Set Password: Save/Not Set

*Password: (Only if you save it)

Member Password: Optional

Confirm Password: Optional

*Square Enix ID: (similar to a Username) (I believe this is also the forum username)

*One-Time Password: Use/Do Not Use

* Are required to be filled in.

If you don't remember the PID, login to your SquareEnix acccount, it'll tell you there.

I know my PID, it's the SE-ID that I do not know/remember. Everything else has been set like you have stated.

It's the User Name/Pass you used to setup the SE Account Management account.....as in, the ID used to access the forums.

Then mine are the same or I am totally confused (which is very likely) because my SE account management to log in is my POL ID also. To log into the forums I have to type in the 'ABCD1234' set.

I GOT IT! Thank you very much for your patience with my stupidity and confusion, have a good night.

My SE ID is Raist, I would imagine yours is Flix. Unless there was a way to set what your display name is on the forums....don't recall the specifics, too long ago. Your SE ID should NOT be your POL ID....if so, that may pose some sort of security risk. That ID is one of the magic pieces to the puzzle when they want to confirm ownership of an account, and should be guarded as much as possible.

My saved POL settings are my old Member ID I created when I first registered, then the system Generated POL ID that was created back then and saved in POL login settings along with that saved POL Password, then my SE ID that I created a couple years back when I first linked POL to SE AM (Raist). When I go to launch the game, everything down to my SE ID (Raist) is saved and I have to enter my SE ID password and my token key. If you are entering anything tied to POL, you may be entering the wrong credentials (unless you didn't save those fields and have to enter it all in everytime).

For everyone on this post that took the time to help thank you!! I had to reinstall on a new drive and when I got to POL I wanted to pull my hair out. SE PLEASE GET RID OF POL IT'S RIDICULOUS AND NOT CLEAR. It's wonder we have new players when they have to go through that and then do all that linking to SE. SE ever heard of K.I.S.S.?
