View Full Version : Exp Merits

I had a brilliant idea.
Step 1) Open up a new merit category called, "Experience Points" where you can use merits to add EXP to jobs.
Step 2) Allow people to Merit this and only this at any level.
This will both reduce the amount of "leechers" in Abyssea, and increase the speed at which you level your jobs up since the leechers won't be doing nothing. Everyone is happy!
Just imagine dropping 200k exp on a level 1 job. First time... Ding level 45. Repeat 7 more times, and you have a fully capped 90 job.
Sorry if someone already posted this brilliant idea in the past.

Might not be so bad people can go in abyssea with useful jobs then dump mass exp they "earned" into other jobs they want to level up. would make abyssea more efficient and stop all the whiners about abyssea leeching then everyone would be doing something i kinda like it
Still wouldn't stop people from complaining that no one is leveling up "the hard way".

the idea of merits is to advance your character beyond the normal limits with a limited amount of personalization, maybe if you through in a couple other things and limit it to 5 merits points per item and have the xp boost of 3% for each that would be a little more realistic but it would still be based off of every 10 levels like skill and HP boosts.. maybe cruor bonuses or gil bonuses (even gil i don't see being improved much) but I wouldn't see it being allowed to merit til 75+ because the idea of leveling is to "experience" the job and learn it by boosting xp to the point where you skip the important first levels then your just asking for headaches to the people that know how to play a job in a level sync scenario.. This wouldn't stop leeching though this would just allow the same abuse of the system as before but people would just be leveling a lot quicker and then the people meriting are going to be stuck dumping merits quicker which is why they raised max merits to begin with to eliminate the need to leave and reset your lights in abyssea every 1-2 hours..
in addition what happens when you have all 99 jobs? your xp bonus becomes useless and your going to be stuck with either removing merits and wasting the points or losing the personalization. most merit categories were meant to be consistently used throughout your gaming life ( most merited abilities/spells are worthless after the 75 cap was raised now a days anyway )

there will always be whiners but it takes care of the majority of the issues with this they can raise level cap to 75 also satisfy player requests for those who have made it to 75 and dont wanna see an influx of lvl 90's who they dont know havent taken the time to learn the job also those who are capped can "just dump xp into jobs they never wanted to play by gaining xp on jobs they love
seems a good solution

teh....don't need a position to know that's how it should be done. as i have said many times before..players have gotten lazy....if they can't have it there way and get easy exp then they get pissy and whine till SE does what they want. for those of us who want balance returned to the game and giving new players a chance to level the right way to experience FFXI for how it should be. you should check out the new player forums....the new players are actually saying EXACTLY what i said in one of my previous abyssea related threads."where are the parties?!" so gee.....maybe i was on the dot after all? oh but you'll never admit that..you too full of yourself.:)

I am a bit confused why this would be a good idea at all. Wouldnt this be a lot like just buying a fully leveled account? Why bother leveling at all if its just done in a few merits? I am very confused why anyone would like this except maybe it saves cash in buying a preleveled character?
there is so much in the game to do long before level 90. Isnt the fun in the game reaching the goals not being at the goal and then looking for ways to have fun? Maybe I have the idea behind the game all wrong?

Only issue with that would still be the lack of skill ups if you don't already have the same skills capped or high on another job. Also, the problem with leechers are that people worry that the leecher doesn't learn how to play their job properly so if someone just dumps a massive amount of exp on a new job that they never played then who's to say that person doesn't know how to play that job as well?
It could potentially be a good idea though since most people are maxed on merits for their 90 jobs anyways and everyone wants to bring their lower lvl job to leech, but then it might be a good option to allow us to merit skill up points to raise whichever skills we want as well. Then you will always find those whiners who will find a way to bash the new system because they lvlled the long and hard grind and they feel that the rest of the world and newcomers should lvl this way as well.
I've grinded the long hard way too back in the day, but quite honestly it doesn't matter to me that exp gain is faster nowadays because that means that I can lvl more jobs for flexibility. I also think it's good because it gives us more people to play with ingame and do certain events and such rather than waiting for new players or other players to spend forever to lvl a certain job to the max lvl.
This game should be based on the dynamics pre75 as it was before.. you learned a job you learned how to use it in a party and then you proceed to solo the crap out of whatever you can and do things that isn't required a group to do and the things that you cant do solo you get LS and other people to do it with because thats what a community is for... Im not saying that it should take so long to level to 75 as it does but I do think that everyone should play a job to 75 before they take advantage of the system.. Maybe increase skill ups pre75 and reduce the amount of xp required post 50 by half of the increments they go up.. I mean its one thing to sit and play a job for 10 hours leveling it from 1-75 then it is to spend 8 hours standing around being afk and then spending another 2 hours skilling up your job..

Being a FFXI player since the game first came out on the ps2, I agree with Krystal. It has gotten way too easy to level now. The first week or two i loved it, then as i got 5 jobs from 75-90 in a week or two I realized that most of the fun has been taking out of this game. I think SE should balance it a little bit. I like the idea of increasing the aby level to 75+. I think if we can keep it to once your 90 keep things how they are with the easy solo, easy merits, ect. but from levels 1-75 i think should go back to the old way, that way you have to work to get to your 75 job, there will be parties again. And once you hit 75 you get to 90 easy in aby. Thats just me though.. Honestly i love the game and will keep playing no matter what but i do believe this way would make it better for everyone..

Even without abyssea good players seem to be able to level any new job in just days. I wonder why that is? Maybe part has to do with knowing where to go, how to get exp at max rate, where and how to not waste time and energy.
Nevertheless they do learn the tricks of the job. Each job is different and has its own little twists that do require skill. You cant learn skill easily when you have to learn them all at once not one at a time.
Now some people do seem to know how to use each job to max rather easily but I am afraid most of us just arent that naturally talented. I know for sure I am not.
You know there is the old saying 'take time to smell the flowers'. Maybe that applies here in that we ought to take the time to enjoy the twists and turns of each job and not focus so much on getting to the end.
I do understand wanting to get a job up fast to do some particular thing in an end game niche but it just seems like such a waste.

I lol'd. Typical female, too shortsighted to see the big picture and claims any viewpoint contrary to hers is inferior/wrong. Lazy people are always going to be lazy, regardless of Abyssea.
If people gear/play jobs effectively and learn job mechanics through other resources besides grinding 1-70, they shouldn't be subjected to leveling the 'proper' (read: retarded) way. Yes, gimp/lazy players are an unfortunate byproduct, but I'd argue that they've been around long before Abyssea/Levelsync.
I agree that new players would do well to grind the old way, but FFXI isn't exactly growing with new players. In the rare case of a new player, they are just as capable of being pointed to online FFXI resources to learn game mechanics just as easily as before. All it takes is one person to unveil the good FFXI community sites, and for the new player to be willing to accept ideas/playstyles based on trial and error from other's findings.

would rather see the new people loose interested before they spent 5+ years playing just to have the dynamics change (yes the word of the day today is dynamics) then the people who have put 5+ years into this game just to see everything change to attract more new people only to see them leave anyway because they don't like it.. I mean its one thing to add some flavor its another to completely change the game just to get more people when your risking losing the people that have been around for years..
how many new people started playing and then just quit after there 1 month free is up? add that to the people who quit because they realize that FFXIV was coming and then the people who quit because its not as easy as WoW and add to the people that quit who quit for personal reason and then the people that just played and didn't like it.. the devoted players you know will stick but expecting new people to join and put the same determination into a game as everyone that has been around since before ToAU is kinda far fetched and optamistic IMO.. besides if it gets to the point where there is such a small amount of people playing they can reduce servers again and it will save them electricity and gil.. and then maybe the when people have opinions how what to do it will be taken a little more seriously because these are experienced players and not just someone who got on and paid 3 months didn't like an aspect and wants to mash the staples easy button
I think they had a good idea with FFXIV that they could make another MMO and change the systems and tailor it to the things that people didnt like in FFXI but if they keep changing things to go in the direction of FFXIV then I might as well cancel my account and go play that since it has better graphics..
