After returning to the game and finding out how awesome Abyssea is (well I enjoy it thoroughly) my biggest question is - WHY IS IT TIMED?!
I love exploring and killing new things, and checking out all the new NM's but I am terrified of running out of traverser's stones or just flat out sick of having to add more becaue I have been doing something for 120minutes.
Why, oh WHY have you put a time limit on the only real thing that I can do in the game at the moment and I'm sure others are in the same boat. Also I have linkshell members that would love to come help me farm certain things or piss around looking for new things to fight but they don't have the STONES.

I agree. The time restriction is unnecessary at this point. All it does is restrict new players and returning players from catching up and enjoying the content. Basically, its adding to lost subscriptions which is never a good thing. As well as creating an annoyance when trying to help these people out.

It's really easy to collect stones. Mmm, I'd highly suggest getting Abyssite of Celerity when you can, as they add a lot of stones to your bank. And, when you do events, always farm some time before hand. Get maxed Azure and Time will roll in really quick.

Hi Meyi,
I have traverser stones down to 12 hours per, but still I am running ridiculously thin as I have only had them building up for a month or so.
Also I can get by with what I have doing what I "need" to do in Abyssea, but I like to go to zones and fight different things, see what I can solo, see how many of that thing I can pull at once etc. I can't do any of this exploratory stuff because I can't solo cap azure to get time extensions (I play THF) and I can't change job in Abyssea to keep my lights.
I also can't do an exp party to cap out time/azure before every little thing I do - that would take hours of playing before actually doing what I was aiming to do! I want to be able to do Abyssea without having a party or only going in for LS events.
I don't understand WHY Abyssea has not only a time restriction, but a stupid one at that - Go to Joachim get stones (4 at a time) and then have to go back to the start of Abyssea to trade more in when you are running low, and then run out of stones and have to go back to Jeuno again :(

you actually can get TE on a melee job with no azure kills. Spent almost 5 hours one day when skillng bow and secondary weapons with no azure kills, just ruby, amber, and pearls (you get azure from the red chests).
The trick is in getting your abyssites (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Category%3AAbyssite) first. There are some that enhance your luck with chests and such, as well as time per stone and regeneration of stones. It doesn't take much to get to 8 hour regeneration and at least 42 minutes per stone (48 is cap, but may need some help to get proc on two of the NM's, the rest can easily be done solo/duo).
Make the most of your limited time now to set up your basics first--especially your last Celerity Abyssite. Celerity's are retroactive. When you get that last one, it recalculates the time that has passed and you get the difference between how many you've already earned and how many you would have with the new abyssite (ie:for 30 days and 12hr recharge that's 60, 30 days at 8hr recharge would be 90: you get 30 free stones when you add that 3rd Celerity).

As others have said, Build Azure and get TE then, 99% of the jobs can do it.
The restriction is never being removed.
Hi Meyi,

I know. When we all started out, Abyssea stones were difficult to come by. However, more abyssites have been unlocked, and farming them should always be a first priority. As Raist has said, there are abyssites for chest luck (I had forgotten about those). I get TE even as my SMN solely by opening up Red Chests with Azure in it. Any level 99 should be able to do this solo. (I also build Pearl on BLM the same way, so regardless of what job you are, you should be able to build things up for yourself.)
You're more than welcome to solo. I solo all the time in Abyssea for Magian trials. Never need to worry about time. You can cap Azure, either through Red Chests, or as someone else mentioned, /NIN ele wheel kill.
I also can't do an exp party to cap out time/azure before every little thing I do - that would take hours of playing before actually doing what I was aiming to do! I want to be able to do Abyssea without having a party or only going in for LS events.
Can be done solo. When I said "parties before events", I meant everyone at the event working together to build a bit of time. They're not required, they just make it faster and easier. You mentioned your LS mates who would like to come, and so I commented they could help you build time, if they're so worried about it.
I don't understand WHY Abyssea has not only a time restriction, but a stupid one at that - Go to Joachim get stones (4 at a time) and then have to go back to the start of Abyssea to trade more in when you are running low, and then run out of stones and have to go back to Jeuno again :(
I think it was originally to keep people from getting everything accomplished at once. But as the second and third set of Abyssea came out (with more abyssites and atmas and goodies), the restriction has become less important. I think it's okay for beginners to relax and let their stones accumulate -- take another week or so off and do some other things in the game. When you come back you'll have about 14 more stones to play with, and with those stones, work on Abyssites. With Abyssites acquired, then you can do literally anything you want!
I guess the restriction is to encourage you to collect valuable items that will make your journey easier and more accessible. And for that reason alone, I think it should stay.

The retroactive part is based on the stones you currently have in stock, if you have 0 stones by the time you get the celerity, you get none added. I found this the hard way.

We've been here before:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/21901-Suggestion-Remove-Abyssea-Time-restrictions
I don't understand WHY Abyssea has not only a time restriction, but a stupid one at that
It's part of the storyline for Abyssea. Read NPC dialogue. Technically, it was probably added to ease congestion when Abyssea was first released (because people WOULD have idled there 24/7 to camp in-demand monsters). There's probably not as much reason for the time limit now technically speaking.
I don't think they should get rid of the limit completely, but should at least let us carry more stones/start with a greater initial time/save more time upon exiting. That 120 minutes could become 240 minutes without much (if any) problem. As for maintaining time without using stones, it takes all of 15 minutes to cap Azure/Pearl light with 2-3 people (and not much longer solo). After that, you should get enough time chests to sustain you if you're regularly killing things.

Thanks everyone posting in this thread - I guess I mostly was frustrated at not being able to get back up to speed on the time frame that I wanted - nor having the freedom to do what I wanted in the content.

it's time limited but it's easy to get infinite TE.

While I can relate to the OP, since I'm in an events shell that mostly does Abyssea NMs, I can also understand why the time restriction is in place. You could park a level 30 character in the zone (which many people do anyway) and just completely AFK to exp. Having the time restriction at least adds some sort of method for booting these people after a certain amount of time.
I would propose raising the level requirement to something reasonable like 75 if they were going to abolish the time restriction. Even with great gear, atma, etc, it's extremely difficult to fight anything at a lower level than that.

It isn't only the sub-30s that would afk in zone indefinitely, but I do like your stealthy suggestion :P
Honestly, time limits for special zones are good. The force you to go somewhere with a purpose, do whatever it is you went there to do, and leave.
Of course, EXP and other items are faster to come by within those time limits, which is a good give-and-take.
I think that Sea, Promyvion and other areas would have benefitted from that kind of system.
