View Full Version : Thief Suggestion - Club Skill Grade

I would love to see the day where THF gets a higher skill grade for clubs to make them more viable. In situations where we are fighting skeletons or just when blunt damage is needed, we are practically useless and there's very little we can do other than feed TP.

I'm not asking for hexa-strike, even though that'd be damn fun, but I remember going to bones parties in KRT with some friends that let me main hand a titan's cudgel and a low delay tp dagger so i could have fun with some SA/TA/SATA True Strikes for lulz.

Wouldn't it be nice to have just a little more variety in our weapons instead of being pigeon-holed to always use daggers? I know it's just wishful thinking, but Thieves are known to use clubs just as much as they would use daggers, lore-wise. I wish the skill cap would be at least a B+, that'd be reaal nice.

This is your friend (http://www.ffxiah.com/item/18856/deae-gratia)

It's not an upgrade to our skill level, but since we have native dual-wield now, you can off-hand an acc dagger, use aggressor, all sorts that we couldn't do at 75. Though this club isn't as nice as it used to be at 75, since now the best AH one is twice as much damage. But THF can't use.

Not bad! I will definitely try to get this weapon, though it truly sucks to have a D rating hindering the potential damage. Still, hitting with a club on blunt weak mobs is still 100x's better than stabbing at it. Thank you for the link to that weapon!

The logic is Absurd.

Every job has it's own special weapon, your argument could be used for EVERY job that doesn't have high Club skill, or every other type of weapon an enemy is weak too.

Sure, lets get right on that, just after we give White Mage an A- in Parrying.

I think it would help to be a bit more realistic in suggestions (regardless of thoughts about skill cap changes for the various jobs they are relatively unlikely), like asking for better Club selection then a Deae Gratia or a Raphael's Rod.

Or my personal favorite, more stuff like the Chiroptera Dagger (which deals slashing damage despite being a dagger), except it would deal blunt damage instead of piercing or slashing.

Of course, in the meantime, ask your local friendly neighborhood Divine Magic caster to toss a Banish spell on the mob you're fighting if it happens to be undead, you'll find your damage will suddenly shoot up.

You don't have to be condescending Daniel, no one is out to disrespect your opinion. I realize everyone has a specialization, so why would it even matter if SE allowed A+ skills across the board and let the player decide how they want to play? Maybe it'd be fun for a WHM to use a samurai sword ;) I think of FFXI as a retirement home and I want my tapioca pudding! Well that's a bit much, but would it hurt to see two viable weapon types per job? Warriors already get a lot of B grade skills to choose from. I'm just saying it'd be cool to have at least one more option for all jobs to enhance your gaming experience.

And I agree that perhaps some specific tailored weapons could fix that too, there aren't too many options for clubs.

Maybe it's just me but <Thief> and <Club> seem like they would go together. I can see a bunch of Newsies looking thugs wielding cudgels going around <Bully>ing and <Mug>ing people. I always wondered why they didn't give <Thief> a higher skill trait.

Warriors are Combat Specialists, they're fully trained in most weapon types. Thief's are the quick, and nimble job that doesn't truly excel at weapons bar Daggers, it's been that way since day one in FF and most other MMORPG's.

Thief needs quite a few things, no denying it. But Club skill is not one of them.

I think Economizer is on the mark if they were to give anything, it's not like a dagger can't be made blunt.

I like the idea of having club be a B- or C+ level on Thf. It keeps with the character of the thief. Think of black jacks, small easily concealed weapons, like daggers. You could even restrict the types of clubs a thf can equip (like the restriction on type of daggers usable by Dnc). I'd love to whack mobs with a shillelagh!

Ya or SE could just give us a blunt dagger lol. They did it for joytoy for piercing.

All Rapier class weapons deal Piercing type if i recall. Though one big thing you're all forgetting about "Different Damage Type Weapons" is that the effect only works on Melee attacks, and not Weaponskills, So your Weaponskills would still take the nerf bat.

As far as Club Goes, a Solid C~C+ would be fun, But I'd sooner enjoy a better damage, higher level club. Right now I'm(was) Using Raphael's Rod, Sad D:40 is the best THF Can do for club...

Regardless, Theres a Blunt Damage Polearm, Piercing/Slashing H2H, Piercing Swords... ANd i think a Blunt-Damage Great Katana... There's a lot of those weapons with unique damage types for their class. Would be nice to have a Blunt Dagger, but i fear it unlikely, and still would be ultimately pretty derp due to WS not being effected by the Damage type change...

You don't have to be condescending Daniel,

He does, he's an idiot.

On the suggestion of a blunt dagger however, those weapons don't deal the 'abnormal' damage type during weaponskills, so SE's great vision of being a hate control master is still out of the window if you can't deal (much/any) damage to a mob that's weak to 1 specific damage type.

Personally I don't see that the low skill level makes much of a difference. I can proc Earth Crusher in abyssea as THF/WAR even without aggressor up, no acc atmas, just dex from cruor buffs and RR (~50% accuracy from eyeballing it), so outside of abyssea hitting stuff with a D skill weapon really shouldn't be an issue, unless the Crystal Dragon or any Legion mobs are highly resistant to piercing.

Edit: Seems Karby posted a very similar post while I was typing this one.

This is exactly what I was thinking. There a lots of thieves and muggers alike that find you in a dark alley and hit you over the head with a billy club or black jack and steal your stuff. I thought THF and Club would compliment each other, just as much as daggers are suited for them. I'd just like a few more options to play with!

Or ask your lazy WHMs to Banish III it or WAR to use Tomahawk. I remember THFs doing absurdly high SATA True Strikes at 75 on bones in KRT.

Yep, and this was before Deae Gratia was even released.
