View Full Version : Second Automaton
I think it's about time that pups level 99 gained the ability to summon a second Automaton.
Now before you completely dismiss the idea, hear me out.
1. It would be awesome
2. Some limitation would be have to be set.
- can't have 2 of the same frame out or something
- large cooldown for 2nd Maton.
3. It would be better than our current 2hour (not saying it should replace it, maybe be an alternative)
4. It would not be overpowered compared to recent additions to the game. (/debate)
Feel free to discus this idea below.

Let SMNs and BSTs do the same thing, and you might have yourself an argument.
How would that work though? Would the 2nd automaton have it's own set of maneuvers? I think it'd be pretty cool in a way because it opens up the realm for so many possibilities... but it also potentially unleashes a huge headache.

Why should SMN/BST get something just because PUP does?

As a Pup, no thanks.

A second automaton is not impossible, we already can have a pet and a NPC (escort, magian book, fellow).
But it would not have the same level of control as our actual pet has. It might not even be an actual automaton.
Perhaps a spheroid that grants small sphere bonusses (pun intended) based on maneuvers and sticks with the puppetmaster.

For arguement's sake SMN should get this more than any of the others as it's the one job without that strong of a pet.
That said: Why shouldn't they, DRG should get two pets too.

I wasn't saying they shouldn't get it. I was just saying that if PUP was to ever get something like this, I don't see how that's reasoning behind replicating it for BST/SMN/DRG. I do think as far as possibilities go (for PUP and SMN anyway. I'm not too familiar with DRG and BST) it'd be interesting but I'm not sure that I'd actually want it.

Well I suppose all pet jobs while different all follow the same logic of one pet each, It's the balancing between pet jobs, if SE were to change that it'd need to be universal through all pet jobs.

They shouldn't, which was my point. PUP has no need for an additional pet, when all other pet jobs (including SMN, which is probably the weakest of them) have not even been considered for this kind of adjustment.
The counter-question: Why -should- PUP get this?

We already have enough problems with an auto's AI and you wanna add another? How would one possibly direct the 2nd auto? Assuming you want a 2nd auto, you would most likely want it to be different than your first one. That being said, you wouldn't want to use maneuvers because they wouldn't do the same thing for the two different autos. If you want a 2nd pet, as stated above, we have npc's. Use that.

I think the only reason this came up was because of the AU storyline showing someone with two automatons, and that's probably also the reason that they only considered it for PUP. It's never been in lore for the others to specifically have more than one pet. (Maybe BST?)

This horse has been beaten to death.
The only logical way to go about this is to remove the master. Have him use a stance that will make the user directly control the automaton as the pc and have said automaton able to command issues to other automaton. Master and slave ideology.

do you have any idea how broken that would be? even if the 2nd auto not able do much like the 1st one. a fully deck out pup with 1 auto alone is crazy strong>.> that if it geared skilled, and with haste, etc parts on pet. but nice idea but like the others said bst smn even drg would be in rage mode if that happen>.>

Beastmaster needs to maintain control over his pet. Lose control (such as Charm breaking) and the pet does whatever it pleases. Including attacking it's former master. Splitting that attention between two pets could prove disastrous.
Summoners need to maintain a link to the astral plane to keep a summon around. That link cannot be shared.
Dragoon pets are very very rare. Bordering extinction. Having two around would be nigh impossible.. not to mention inconvenient if you happen to have a male and female...
Puppetmaster does not have to maintain anything. Automatons are self-sufficient, and whole groups of automatons could technically be controlled by a single master.
That is why puppetmaster would be most suited for multiple pets. Gameplay-wise it might not work out due to balance, but lore-wise there is little against it. BST, DRG and SMN could get other specific bonusses instead of multi-pet, though.
BST - big pets (like behemoths, or giant versions of normal jugpets)
DRG - big wyvern (like the mob version)
SMN - would be a bit harder.. perhaps the SMN itself takes on the astral form of the avatar summoned, with benefits of that form.

There are many mobs in the game that have multiple avatars/spirits so SMN is not true, there is a npc freelancer bst in the past who has 3-4 pets at a time so not true, drg maybe, seeing as the whole point is that you share a bond with your specific dragon.
So there is not much problem lore wise for other jobs to have multiples, as for the idea of 2 pets it would have to be severely gimped, maybe make it so you have to have a second animator (animator/turbo animator/animator +1/deluxe animator + support animator) and give both pets separate manuvers with a shared overload rate,(this would essentially making the master useless as you'd have to be constantly swapping animators losing you all your tp to keep each pets manuvers going and increasing the likelihood of overload with 2 puppets). They could also Make them share frames/attatchments(instead of buying seperate ones for the second puppet) that way you can't have 2 puppets doing the same thing.
Although the idea is unlikely, I can see it being workable.

If you guys search back a little in the puppetmaster forums, a lot of people came up with a similar idea of adding an additional pet through the new 2 hours. I myself would like a 2nd pet. The concept of controlling the second pet was that manuevers either were applied to both pets at the same time when used or maneuvers could be targeted to the pet specifically. This would cause a challenge since if you used two different frame types, some maneuvers may contradict one pet while benefitting another and pet specific maneuvers can share the same recast timer
