As a long time final fantasy supporter and fan. As tragic as the earthquake and tsunami and aftershocks, and now the possibility of a nuclear meltdown. When final fantasy xi comes back online I personaly think it would be a great idea and in good taste, if the development team where able to add a new item to the game that reflects Japans crisis. over the years of playing this game i have came across several jp players that i will never forget. And the reality of the situation is some of them may have perished in disasters.
Another idea is there anyway you guys could possibly start a fund to donate to?
Thank you

I personally think it would be understandable to make one month after the servers come back up to be billed a dollar extra to donate the extra $ each to relief effort of those who bring us our great game.

My suggestion was this: since they have already told us we wont be billed for April seems they can live with out it so just bill us for April and donate the entire month to the relief effort

I think that there should be a donate option on the PlayOnline page where they stick all their Version update ads.

not necessarily as bad idea as an idea that while has a good intention to it would cause mass chaos among the FFXI player base and cause many legal issues for SE in years to come.

this would work too where u can just click a button "Donate April's monthly subscription"

Or.... now bear with me with this one, you could just go out (or even online) to a charity and donate the money?

indeed i could but since im in "FFXI" forum where they constantly add new thingsa in the menu and are directly affected by this which would bring more light to us as a community where people think we are self absorbed burn outs wo play the game all day and never leave the house or care about others i thought it might be nice to recognized as something else

Don't see why it has to be April's monthly subscription fee. Just make an option to donate, that way players can donate whatever they wish.

Go out and donate.
I am sure a lot of people could use April's fee for other stuff.

If you read all my post you may understand why. i'll say again Square has said they will not charge us for April hence they won't miss it i don't mind the charge i say take it and donate it make a banner
"From us here at Square enix and our player base we have decided to Donate April's monthly payment in the relief effort"
but i have aready donated in other ways and some peole who are a little stingier have already accounted for their monthly payment being taken will be better on board with being charged and donated over 1 million account and $13.00 dollars per account would be a big help and to come from us again as a community would be nice. did that help?

i think the idear is great but there is one downfall if u force people to donate instead of given them a choise then some players may leave due to lack of money to play any more i myself can only just afford to pay every month sometimes i cant.

Not to force them to do it just have the button option there for those of us who are generous and like you said and i hinted you can do with pril's payment to be donated may as well donte it in the name of a game and company you like but you dont have to do it hence the button with them saying they wont charge us for april i though if we volunteered to be charged for april and have it donated would be great

This. I'm sure there are plenty of other spots you can donate money to the relief effort. SE isn't a charity. And if the tsunami and earthquakes hit them personally, the servers would be down for a helluva lot longer than a week. So yeah. Give your money to a relief effort so that they can get the money to those who really need it.

I said in another thread that allowing us to chose to donate our April fees to the relief efforts was not viable, unless they turned on the POL servers. If you want to donate now, chose a reputable organization and donate.
I did, however, suggest that SE do something to allow us players to donate in game or through the game systems. A button on the title screen on POL would satisfy this. I also suggested that SE create a small in game item that players could "purchase", and the money going to the relief efforts. However it happens, I believe that the FFXI player base would be very receptive to donating.

Well... as it is the JP division of the Red Cross is saying it doesn't need the funds atm. US division just sent them $10 Mill, and there are no specific requests needed outside of the basics which they already have covered atm. So any money sent now might not actually get used for JP relief.
Maybe if things continue to go downhill things may change, but they say they appear to have it covered. Food, Gas, Water supplies are already in route, supplemental power sources are on the way, and temp. housing for the evacuees is already under construction. It's not perfect...but in the works.
Time will tell if it's enough.

I would gladly donate without a second thought, many threads like this have popped up and i hope SE takes a hint, put it on the SE site Playonline site or whatever site as long as its legit.

They already have.
Square Enix is donating 100 Million Yen to earthquake relief efforts and working on a system which would allow Square Enix Account holders to donate their "Crysta Points" to relief efforts as well. They'll post an update when they've got that system up and working.
