View Full Version : Will we ever see new or improved spells?

Now that level 99 has come and gone, and we're most likely not going to receive another update where we get as many spells as we did in prior large updates. I still think blu should be provided with a few or a couple completely new spells. A couple ideas I have:

Perhaps, we could have a special vote occasion for a spell like BSTs had with their pet. I would really like a chance at tp drainkiss again... or another tp absorbing spell. Mighty guard too...

Blu support job signature spells like cocoon. The only good reason I can think of to sub blu is cocoon and fast cast spells for drg. I wouldn't mind seeing another spell under lvl 50 as amazing as cocoon. Perhaps, a magic defense buff or an enspell, something that would attract jobs to sub blu.

Also, a fix to all our broken spells would be nice. Just hope SE hasn't given up on blu since some spells are still worthless. Anyone else have any ideas for what SE can do for blu in the future? merits? spells? JAs?

I think stuff like this is more likely short term (short term for FFXI being the next six months) rather then new spells.

Actually, if anything I'd like to see not only spell adjustments to fix spells and maybe tweak their levels, but also job ability combos, particularly for /BLU. For example, Blue Mages tend to heavily Dual Wield, so perhaps there should be a point heavy combo that allows Blue Mage to get one tier of the trait before level 50; it would be inferrior DPS over other subjobs that have the trait while opening up new subjob options to non-Dual Wield 1h jobs. Of course, it is hard to say what would throw off game balance, so who knows where this could go.

interesting idea!

We're technically missing one spell in that we cannot receive Auto Regen II despite it being said that we'd be able to, but that isn't a big deal. I would absolutely love a new Paralyze spell and maybe another low MP:decent damage spell to go with Heavy Strike and Delta Thrust though, as well as fixes for our broken spells.

BLU needs a capstone light and dark nuke, just sayin.

Ecliptic Meteor and Scintillant Lance gogo.

More than anything new, I'd like to see Tourbillion and friends fixed. The defense down from Tourbillion would be awesome for lots of stuff, the accuracy down from Barbed Crescent could be useful at times, and it's what the spells are meant to do in the first place.

Not being able to fix an obvious and apparently simple bug really makes me wonder how competent the Development Bros are.

After they broke Ageha I'm not sure what their reasoning is for making theses spells/ws essentially useless. Other than well, to make them useless for being too useful (as far as they're concerned for some unholy reason, as vaporspray is broken...).

Post 75...are breath spells even usable anymore? Wind breath, maybe...?

Better spells for weaker mobs, not really useful on NMs due to resists/Damage dealt reduced by a fair margin last I checked, so not really. I do remember Thunder Breath was weakened post release on test server I think, that's about it.

Wind breath is the only tolerable breath spell as its recast and casting time is similar to physical spells (low cast/recast). What I would like to see is some spells under UL that are actually useful. Our current lineup of UL spells are pretty in animation but are lackluster in utility. Not to mention a handful of our buff spells fall short because of crap duration.

CDC is amazing because it shift's blu source of damage. What I would to see however is a job ability that would make the next blu spell crit. If anything like this would happen it'd probably share recast with Efflux which would be terrible. But this opens up what /thf used to provide for all you guys who remember SA+Cannonball or VC.

To be fair, under UL Tourbillion would have been amazing, but the effect is broken.

Wind Breath would be a great source of enmity if enmity mattered.

Maybe its just me, but I really felt cheated by Reaving Wind. It was a pain to learn (at least for me), and then to discover that it won't blow the target mob halfway across the zone... /facepalm.

Same, I was so disappointed by this spell, when I saw it in the spell list I thought it would be at least "knockback spikes" which would have been an awesome addition to Blu for kiting.

Know who really needs spells? DRK!

Reaving wind does a good job at taking away a mobs tp. Why I want another tp drain spell. Solo mobs without their tp attacks. Can do that now but with more persistence.

Apparently TP Drainkiss has been animated for BLUs but has never been released.

In fact that goes for a ton of stuff

What's an capstone light or dark spell?

Difference between draining TP and removing TP.

that's the word. obviously, I wouldn't mind a tp drain spell.

Why not though? Drk won't be any less powerful if Blu got an equivalent spell.

doesn't have to be an exact replica... an enspell effect of the same sort would be interesting...

Not really. I did a nyzul run with a BLU I gave up on helping, who insists breaths and 1-minute doom for 267 mp are awesome, we fought a slime, 50% physical resist, they cast wind breath and I cast Delta Thrust same time, I did more damage.

And anything high-end is going to resist breath as much as physical.

Need to make Dark Orb AoE, and needs an AoE Light Spell as well.(I don't care about BLU but it would make BLU burning Light and Dark staff trials 100000000% easier for other jobs.)

How about giving us access to all our spells at once! But use the blue spell point system to select the spells that give us our job traits and enhance their effects.

I.E. We can cast any spell we have learned, but we still have to "Set" the spells to get job traits, and those spells would be enhanced via acc/atk power.

Also having our spells more heavily modified by our blue magic skill would be nice

I think BLU is already at a very nice level of power. With each update I'm afraid that SE will understand just how powerful they have made blu and nerf some aspect of it - but so far, so good. BLU is great at dynamis. BLU is great at VW. BLU is great in abyssea. BLU is great at Limbus. There are few jobs that are as independent for solo play, versatile, and significant contributors in alliance play, as BLU.

Think we have varying degrees of what constitutes great but yes it has fair use in several events.

VW though I'm going to have to disagree with due to how the proc system is setup, and while not terrible, Blu is certainly not optimal against high tiers from a damage standpoint.

I guess I'm referring to overall contribution to VW. Yes Blu is not the top DD, but it can make a significant contribution. In VW, blu can emergency heal, blu magic procs, sword procs, club procs, and deal decent damage with almace, even against high tier VWNMs with proper temps & food. Its very well rounded and balanced. Switching around blu proc spells is a pain in the butt, but SE appears to have no intention of fixing this.
