Greetings!
We are currently giving consideration to having a feature that would allow for the toggling of head gear display and will be running tests for this. Please understand that this is being looked into for head equipment only and not other areas of equipment.
With this feature, there will most likely be requests to make it possible to toggle the hoods on tunic type equipment up and down, but the system for the graphics of these equipment differ from regular head gear which would require additional graphics data, so it will not be possible to do this.
Once I receive updates on the progress regarding this feature I will be sure to let you all know :)

Okay.

Why not. It is fun to see little changes like this are in the brewing.
I guess anything goes if they induce really minor effort!
In any case, I'm not sure what I should do with "would require additional graphics data, so it will not be possible". Well it's not like I don't know this already... so yeah, I'll just shut up... fer now!

Marvelous. Maybe I'd consider obtaining and wearing Raider's Bonnet on my THF if this were in effect!
I am too vain...
*Edit: Whoops! Meant AF3 hat, Raider's!
Sounds neat, actually. But would this merely enable/disable headgear on all characters for the player using it, or make ONLY that player's character appear to not have headgear?
I hope this leads them to look into other customization options, like the /gearlock idea that's been passed around a lot. Basically, you would type /gearlock and whatever gear you're currently wearing is set and doesn't change until you either turn it off or change jobs. So not only would you get to lock in an outfit you really like, it would solve the little annoyances "blinking" causes.
Camate! Since the devs are considering a cosmetic feature like headgear toggling, PLEASE pass the /gearlock idea on to them. If you do, me love you long time.

Yeah I would definitely like to see this. I would rather see my cute hair and face over that ugly bucket on my head anyday.

I like some of my buckets (Menacing Ogier's Elvaan lady gogogo), but yes there are a lot helms that I dont put on until I'm in combat; would rather wear my magnifying specs! 8)

Marvelous. As it is now, I'd rather gimp myself than wear ugly gear.

Just something to make some of that headgear easier on the eyes. Brego helm has nice textures, but it's really nothing compared to my pimp hat.

I just wish we had the ability to "morph" one piece of equipment to look like another one. Aion had a great system for this. We wouldn't need to hide items if we could just make them look good, and it would allow for more diverse styles.

If someone wanted full Homam to morph or lock their gear to, they would have to do Limbus until they got those pieces. If someone wanted that shadow lord armor set from the past, they'd have to help with campaign and actually care about the systems in place for WotG to get their set. Would be no different than the people who run old raids in WoW every week since the implementation of transmogrification.

Right... because obviously this means I tp in lilac corsage or something else. Even though it was merely an exaggeration to express approval of this idea, if you really are concerned, I still adjust to keep my gear haste capped on THF. If THF was my main job, or if I had relic/empyrean for? Of course I'd attain every piece of optimal use for the job, regardless of appearances. But as it is I only ever bring it out purely for Treasure Hunter use, which tends to not be often as I have acquaintances that enjoy being THF. If you are really, REALLY concerned, I have all the up to date TH gear as well!

See Babekeke, It only takes hearing it about 800 times before it all molds into a long run on womping sound. Just give it time :)
P.S What is Assassin's Bonnet good for...? I forget. I thought it was an all but useless head armor with DEX+5 and Items off the AH Could easily beat it. Or are we talking about Raider's Bonnet? Cause Raider's Bonnet looks Bad-ass And if that constitutes ugly for you you have terrible taste :(
And for that matter, Assassin's Bonnet is Bad-ass. Its a giant Blue Muffin hat. I use to wear full Relic Armor just for funsies when i had it :o

My apologies; in my original post I meant Raider's; corrected.
I'm sorry I don't like looking like Altaïr. I guess I should go kill myself now

At least you understand the only logical course of action for having the sense of humor (And style while its still on the table) of a dying animal.
Then again, Who am i Kidding. this is probably your first time on the internet, or an Internet forum, and you take any response to you as more of a directed fart-blast in which you desperately try to defend yourself without making it seem like its effecting you. In reality, not every post is meant to crap on your opinion.
I mean, Admittedly, Mine was to some extent, But I was half joking. I'm never a fan of listening to someone make excuses about why they're mediocre at something. I mean its one thing to be lazy, but its another to try and justify it with any excuse you can cobble up.
We can accept you if you're lazy. Hell, I'm lazy. Most of my jobs barely have Empyrean+1 because I'm lazy as shit and just don't care. but I admit my flaws, not make excuses for them. We're not here to hate you. We're here to poke fun at dumb things. Its like being at a bar with drunk friends. They'll knock on your a** one moment for doing something stupid, Then laugh together with you in the next.
Just gotta know when to laugh at yourself, but at the same time, Know when to kick your friend in the junk for going too far! The perfect response to Babe would be "What can i say, I'm a sucker for not looking 'tarded". - Its joking, but gets your point across too.
Its all about knowing what to say and when to say it. Getting worked up and angsty over everything just paints you as an easy target. See: Rosina. Going into rage-mode the second someone questions you just, again, Paints you as an easy target. You don't want to get angry at everything, or give us a life story when we look at you funny for saying something. Defend your reasoning, But don't make it seem like it was so offensive you have to take a shower after reading it.
Morale of the Story? Lighten the Fk up!

I do understand your point. I'll try a more honest shot at it: I'm too lazy about my THF to get *all* the empyrean gear, and I dont care much for the hood's appearance (on my Elvaan) on top of that~. So I choose alternatives I have available that also leave me more personally satisfied with my appearance when I bring out THF.
Someday I'll probably get that hood (and this head equip toggle would entice me to get it sooner), but meanwhile I'm comfy with what I've got!

Back on topic..... would perhaps something like this be possible ever?
Gaaaah... too much staging and way too complicated for it's intended purpose.
Just say you want costume slots for the 5 visible armor slots. Players can wear iconic armor for their job at anytime, and stop antagonizing mages that want to cure them without losing target due to incessant blinking. :D
Karbuncle
04-13-2012, 07:15 PM
Probably not. Those kind of things are built into the game from the basic stages. Adding it so late into the game would be really difficult to do. Not saying its impossible, But It'd be quite the bit of development time, If its even possible.
If its taking so long to create a toggle head armor button, I can't even begin to imagine how much it would take these people to create a Separate Equipment screen (ala Automaton) where you can chose "Visible Armor". I'm sure most of the guys who would know how to do that are fired or moved to FFXIV. The people working on FFXI right now are probably a bunch of unpaid interns.
I kid i kid. But really.

Runes of Magic, you can do this as well. Basically use a Device that gives you the look of 1 item and the stats of the other.

Greetings!
I have some good news for all of you! :)
The development team has been working on a text command based toggle head gear ON/OFF feature and we are planning to implement this in the June version update.
There were a lot of requests for a configuration based setting and we looked into this, but since this involved UI alteration we will only be adding the text command version.
By toggling your head gear display ON/OFF, the visual display will be reflected for both yourself and others who see your character. (There will be no visual changes for tunics and other similar gear that restrict you from equipping head armor.)

Eh, it's a decent option and I appreciate it, but the /gearlock idea is still way better and allows players to completely customize their look in battle while also eliminating gear-swap blinks. Just wish someone would pass it on to the devs.

Not that this isn't good news, but it reeks of cutting corners.

I'd like a text command to turn my name off from above my head, I know who I am, while keeping the names of everyone else on.

I'm unclear as to why they want to only freeze the head gear specifically. Are people having trouble seeing out of their Salades?

That command does exist. Type /names off and they will do so!

They want it so it only removes their characters name. /names off removes all.

You may had miss read what I had suggested. The command you are referring to turns off all of the names. Where as:

Just a small difference, but if they could add a command for /myname off, that sure would be spiffy.

The fact that we should have to choose between those two options is a major problem in and of itself.
But, since they have already elected to make the game prettier instead of making it more fun, they may as well do the job correctly. Last I checked, "blink me not" was not (probably cannot be) patented. I doubt it's that hard to add it into the game code.

Square would never implement that if they could. From the people I've heard that use it you *never* blink, so have someone on white mage go change to drk and you'll see a whm with club somehow using resolution.

Yeah, but it would be easy to toggle it on / off every time someone job changes. IMO Blinking every time you change gear in a game where almost everything revolves around gear swapping is a major glitch. I don't mind if the NIN has PUP af3 on, as long as he is visible on my screen when I try to target him.
