Pretty new I've haven't been playing much though cause I got frustrated with some things such as: the annoyance of controlling with just a keyboard, fighting as a white mage and no party, and the fact that I thought I had talked to every person on the list for the lair of the wildcat quest and when I finished, nothing happened. Took forever to do. Any tips? don't currently have any other friends that play right now either. I tried fighting as a white mage but I keep getting killed ... I really want to start fishing some time. I am a mithra.

Teegrins, kittysoftpaws!
Welcome (back)'ish ! !! !
For the controls, assuming PC from the keyboard part, you can use a controller meant for PC, or even a PS2-controller if you can find a PS2/USB-converter/adapter, so there are ways around that.
As a White Mage, you'd need to indeed fight rather weak monsters to survive alone, and equipment choices would be rather unconventional in that case and might be difficult to actually find especially from the Auction House because players do not spend as much time on the lower levels as they used to. All in all it would still be slower than doing it as nearly any other job available at that point.
For the Lure of the Wildcat (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Lure_of_the_Wildcat), simply talk to the NPCs again to make sure you didn't miss any. You can see the locations again my checking the Temporary Key Item, (colour of the city) Sentinel badge. Alternatively, you can of course look up the quest at your favourite fan-sitel. Gamer Escape (http://ffxi.gamerescape.com/wiki/Main_Page) is the new'ish premier fan-powered wiki, which at the time may lack on some info, though mainly only for the newer stuff because many of the users of the old premier site, FFXIclopedia (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Main_Page), never moved along with the founders.

Thanks and hello. Yeah I need to get a converter, it would be helpful. I may just change my main job as that might be easier for my situation <_<

The particular converters may or may not be very easy to find depending where abouts you live, but yeah, look into that.
They can also be a bit of a hit-and-miss, on how well they work, but I can say that the one I have, is very well detected by windows, and Linux drivers (which I nowadays use only), and work very well in all aspects so if you encounter some difficulties on that regard, it may just be bad design.
They're not so much made by well-known companies, and I'm not sure if mine actually has a 'brand' at all, heh.
As for your job, indeed, don't be too sceptical about trying out a different one in the beginning. Once you get things going, chances are that you can more easily level up the White Mage job, if you still want to.
Moreover, do not be shy on shouting or even yelling at Jeuno and other cities for a social Linkshell (particularly Jeuno, when you get there, as it is where likely most of the players hang out while not out). Even though the game has taken a bit of a turn towards smaller and smaller groups, there are still Linkshells out there with lots of members who are willing to help where and when they can.
If it's not obvious yet, do take advantage of Fields of Valor and Grounds of Valor which will yield nice rewards even at lower levels (the floating books you may or may not have spotted right at the entrances to cities and inside dungeons, at the entrance).
Just some more random thoughts~
