View Full Version : AH's ammunition category needs to be split. The sort options don't even apply.

The ammunition category in the auction house is a disaster. It currently contains:
Bullets
Stacks of bullets
Arrows
Stacks of arrows
Bolts
Stacks of bolts
Quivers
Stacks of quivers
Bolt Quivers
Stacks of bolt quivers
Bullet Cases
Stacks of bullet cases
Usable bombs
Stacks of usable bombs
Unusable bombs
Stacks of unusable bombs, when applicable
Equippable rocks/feathers/needles/etc.
Stacks of equippable rocks/feathers/needles/etc., when applicable
Pumps
Stacks of pumps
Fans
Stacks of fans
Shuriken
Stacks of shuriken
Batteries
Stacks of batteries
It IS relevant to mention the stacks, because they sure as hell increase the spam in this category.
The category uses the same sort options as weapons, but the bullet cases/quivers/bolt quivers/stacks of bullet cases/stacks of quivers/stacks of bolt quivers don't have levels, races, jobs, delay, or damage, because they're unequippable, so they're unsortable. Many of the items also don't have DMG or delay because they're not even used as weapons, like the Hedgehog Bomb.
No sort option applies to every item in the category. Some items have no applicable sort options.
Possible breakdown:
Make the ammunition category contain only TRUE ammunition: arrows, bullets, bolts, and their containers. Add alphabetical sorting for when we need to find certain containers.
Make a new category: Shuriken/Bombs/Etc. Put all shuriken, bombs, darts, and unusable "ammo" items here. Add alphabetical sorting.

Since more and more stuff, from new bullets to new marital aids somehow equipped in one's ammo slot, is added to the ammo category each update, clutter in the ammo category really is becoming an issue.
I also admire the thoroughness of this list. STACKS OF PUMPS!

Agreed by all means. If nothing else, sort into 3 categories, Throwing, Launched ammo, and Quivers, anything to reduce that god-awful long list to search through.

The OP gives me the impression that we'd be better served by an ammo revamp while we're at it.
Stacks of unusable bombs, when applicable
Stacks of equippable rocks/feathers/needles/etc., when applicableThese two should not even be on the list, as they should have been removed when ammo with stats was changed. Give everyone 60-day notice that you're gonna remove that category from the AH and make the change.
Pumps
Stacks of pumps
Fans
Stacks of fans
Batteries
Stacks of batteriesThese are in dire need of simplification, as to my knowledge the weapons these are tied to aren't exactly useful nor are they really common. Considering the most popular of these drop in Sea and use Virtue Stones...
As for the topic, I agree that there needs to be an additional category or two to fit all this ammo and reduce the clutter in the AH.

Forget the exact layout and all (not in game atm to pull it up), but there may be an issue with the tree--might not be able to simply drop in a sub category under ammo.
Ammo&Misc
--Pet Items
--Fishing
--Ammo
--Grips
Think that's how it was setup. May be more taxing to expand Ammo into another sub-menu, but instead add more entries at this level, so that the Ammo category is left holding only launchable ammo (arrows, bullets, bolts). Perhaps a new category for throwing would cover most of the rest, but then you need a category for the bundled/'consumed items. Perhaps call it simply that--Consumables.
Ammo&Misc
--Pet Items
--Fishing
--Ammo (contains only usable ammo, as in unbundled arrows, etc)
--Grips
--Throwing (actually thrown items, or items that would be thrown but are now locked)
--Consumables (all bundled items, batteries, fans, etc.)
no matter what, it will probably be a bear for them to implement... but think it would be worth it. Could cut down on some of the lag in the AH in the long run, as it would be polling shorter lists when people are shopping for actual ammunition.

There's no need for a 60-day notice. 3 days is all you need for existing trades to clear, and even then only for items that have their stack SIZE changed. Since this is a 'simple' split of a category, SE could move the non-ammo to a new misc group in the next update and that's it.

It IS relevant to mention the stacks, because they sure as hell increase the spam in this category. It's not relevant because stacks appear in every category with stackable items.
However, all the stat peices should be moved to their own category, because they aren't really even ammunition.

When SE moved the Abyssea key items in their own key item-slot, it was because they were not able to sort things alphabeticaly. The reason for this was the names was different in english and japanese and that the game-mechanichs would not allow that kind of sortation. My guess is that the same goes for the ammo sortation.
This is definetly a /sigh factor ^_-

Since this is a 'simple' split of a category, SE could move the non-ammo to a new misc group in the next update and that's it.I was more refering to the fact that when certain ammo was changed to be locked so that people wouldn't accidentally throw their Bomb Cores or Optical Needles, SE kept the stacks of these items instead of getting rid of them as well. If they're visible in the AH, they're most likely still counted as entries in whatever system files FFXI uses. Which to me translates to needless clutter that should be removed.
The 60 day notice is more so that in the off chance that someone out there has a stack of 12 Morion Thathlums, they have time to get rid of those so that by the time the 60 days go through they're down to 2 or 1 for when they are made unstackable or given a rare tag.
