We need a Thread reporting button and Post rating/filtering--help cleanup the forums

Would be nice to have a rating system per post like is available on other sites (like allakhazam for example)--once the users rate a post below a default level, then that post would be collapsed and sort of hidden from view unless you clicked to expand it. Might cut-down on some of the off-topic and flaming going on in some of these threads.

If it's not practical to integrate a rating system at this point, at least give us a button or link in Forum Actions to report a thread to the moderators. Some of these have simply gotten out of hand, and it might help the moderators if the users could flag their attention to try to reign in the flame wars going on. Also, some very good threads are at risk to falling down the list and out of view. It would be nice if some could be nominated for review to be stickied so users don't start posting "Bumps" in them.

I'm not a fan of the rating systems. There are some posts that really add nothing to a discussion and I end up skimming them but I find that people often rate down other people's posts for arbitrary reasons that have little to do with post quality and more to do with petty drama. A report button might work well although it seems like mods on this site have been quite active so far.

A Ratings function on discussion forums has never been anything more than a toy or a tool depending on how it's used, I'm against it. Reporting function would be nice but the moderators are generally fast acting so it hasn't been a necessity at the time.

Sometimes I want to reply to a post because I want to burn it with harsh words or just simply don't agree for obvious reasons. A simple click on the thumbs down button would remedy that urge. Same goes for wanting to support a post, but I might actually reply to those to let them know I support what was said.

I dunno, I'm kinda see-sawing this idea. I'm glad you want to help clean up the trash though.

lol.. it's so tiny... never even noticed it over there. Maybe they could make it more prominent...maybe add it to the Forum Actions drop down list also.
