So, I log into Final Fantasy XI last night, and I noticed the logos for the 25th anniversary for Final Fantasy and the 10th anniversary for Final Fantasy XI.
So, what I want to know is what will the celebrations in Final Fantasy XI consist of?
Will we see something really special here? Something to look forward to?
Let us know! :D
Would actually be really nice if SE were alittle more like other developers, meaning generous to their playerbase, once in awhile. Like for example, the occasional double exp day/weekend.

"While the concept of Double EXP days/weekends, Double CP/AN/ISP days/weekends, and other events like these are very attractive, they would be very difficult to implement. Not only do we have to look at this from the perspective of keeping things balanced, but we must also acknowledge technical limitations.
Experience Points are registered by-the-point, and for each point of experience gained per second, a packet of information is sent to our servers. Unfortunately, we feel that doubling the experience points per monster per player would cause too much lag. We must also take into consideration memory restrictions of the Playstation 2 and Xbox 360.
It would also be very difficult and take a lot of time and resources to create an environment where we can toggle such bonuses on and off.
As for double CP/AN/ISP or other bonuses, we will look into it, however we may not be able to implement anything due to balance.
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause."

They should do a 10th Anniversary Mog Bonanza where even Tier 5 has valuable prizes and level 99 relics, mythics, and empys are Tier 1 prizes. I'm perfectly fine with every character being a winner of something more practical than a statue and a battle invite.
I'd like an XP ring that not only affects me, but my adventuring fellow as well. She needs an XP boost way more than I do. During the "anniversary celebration" hey should do double CP/IS/AN/Cruor and.... SKILLUPS!

It is obvious they have something (or some things) planned, but understandably have not been vocal about it and one reason for that is no doubt to keep some people paying ~cough~ I mean playing for at least this one more year.
I am one of those that are more or less just lingering here, unsure of my continued support, with faith dwindling and all that. Friends I used to do everything with are gone, never to return (very likely not), and I never played this game because of the game itself is great. Great friends are what makes it great!
I'll very likely be here to see what becomes of this year, or at least most of it, but currently I am unable to really play even if I wanted to because their Xbox-fixes broke the game for those of us that use Wine to play it on Linux. ^^;
But I digress.
I was going to just post these little bits of thoughts from the lead at new years as they might seem relevant~
Happy New Year!
Along with the implementation of the Test Server and the relaunch of the Free Trial last year, it was also a year that was a turning point for large changes in the development team. Continuing this year, the development and operations team are highly inspired and will be adding a variety of content to expand the world of Vana’diel even more.
Also, this year marks the 25th anniversary of the FINAL FANTASY franchise and the 10th anniversary for FINAL FANTASY XI. We are currently drawing up plans to see if we can celebrate with you all in some way so I hope you’ll all look forward to it.
Happy New Year!
Last year was a year that was a turning point for FFXI in which a lot of issues were posed through the forums.
This year makes the 10th anniversary of FFXI, so I would like to have many of these issues answered and at the same time offer a clear vision, provide new enjoyable content that is appropriate for the 10th anniversary.
Also, I would like to comment more on the forum moving forward to show the development team’s ideas. I hope you’ll all look forward to it.
I will be working my hardest this year to make sure that everyone’s love for FFXI is not betrayed.
Happy New Year!
I guess since it’s a New Year, you want to hear about goals for the future, eh?
Along with the 10th anniversary, there will be a large amount of improvements and changes to both software and hardware. We intend to take the initiative and handle the issues that have not been resolved for a long time, new bugs that arise, and all the other things that we’ve been receiving comments about.
Along side this we are making a variety of preparations, so please forgive me if something slips my mind in the process.
We’ll continue working our hardest because of your continued support!
(My guess is they will announce FFXI shut-down on FFXIV 2.0 release. ¯ʒ¯)

EXP is so hard to get.
That's not the point. You missed the part where he said, "Like for example..." The point is, other MMOs will throw their subs a bonus every so often, certainly more than once a year. Often they do so as part of a promotion to get people playing again. It ain't much, but it's a hell of a lot more than SE is doing right now to try and keep people interested or lure them back. The bonus doesn't have to be XP. In fact it should be something people often have an issue with, like skillups.
Would you turn up your nose at Martial Master's Month? Would it be so bad to have a weekend every now and then where CP/AN/IS/Curor is doubled? Geodes and Avatarites would be great to get a boosted drop rate every once in a while. It'd be good to let people have a break every now and then, don't you think?

There's a VanaFest in Japan happening for the 10th Anniversary. Nothing announced for other regions though.

I was having problems on Linux too - random freezes every now and again that sounded suspiciously like the XBox problems they were trying to fix - but I managed to solve it by going back to an older version of Wine and now the game works okay again. Might be worth a try?

Honestly, the thing that amazes me about threads like this is that after all these years, you expect SE to give a shit about retaining players and are surprised when they don't. Most MMOs ask players why they're quitting with a survey. This gives them an idea of what needs changing. SE has never done that.
It's all great to talk on a forum about what you want in the game while you're obviously still addicted and aren't going to quit if you don't get your demands honoured, but taking a slice of knowledge from someone who's stopped giving you money is a far more intelligible way to go about finding out how to get that money back.
Either they assume they know best for the game, or they take direction from the forums (which seems to be the norm much more now than ever was before). Either way, both cases have resulted in a decline.
Most 'suggestions' on the forums presume to know what the players want en-masse. Obviously not.

So the only feedback and suggestions that count are the ones from people who don't play anymore? If we all quit and tell them why then the game will get fixed? But then who are they fixing it for if we've all left? Don't they just pull the plug at that point and MAYBE apply our suggestions to a future game? Of course if FFXIV 1.0 is any indication, they don't do very well at that.
Is your post just a roundabout way of telling us, "If you don't like it leave?" Or am I misunderstanding you here?

You can go from 30 - 99 in under half a day. We don't need this.

Another who misses the point and the "for example." It doesn't HAVE to be XP. It could be anything that's usually a pain to get.

Another who misses the point and the "for example."
Point wasn't missed, but good try. "For example double exp" in a game where you can level from 30 to cap in under half a day is an example of "developers being generous to their playbase"...why would you use that as an example for generosity for a game where it's more generous with it's EXP than any other out currently?
How else are developers generous when double-triple exp weekends "FOR EXAMPLE" are the common forms of 'giving back to the players" without handing out everything they desire? Maybe you should spend more time thinking about why I said we don't need this kind of generosity than trying to tell someone they missed the point just because they disagree.

I've been trying to think outside the box a little bit since people are dead set against a double XP weekend. I figured I'd try to come up with a bonus they might be for. XP isnt the only thing they could do. We have other forms of progression, be they skill-ups or regional currencies. They could hold special events that don't involve real life holidays where people can have some sort of progression. They need to start doing little things to make life more interesting in addition to working on large-scale storylines and endgame events.
I suppose I did pick a fight with you, and I apologize for that. It's just kind of frustrating when people try to write off ideas on how to improve the game with a one-liner post and no alternatives. Maybe you weren't doing that, but it felt that way. Regardless, I shouldn't have responded in the way I did.

Misunderstanding me. SE should take more notice to people who stop paying them. Those are the people really unhappy with the game (really as in, more than us lot - not insinuating that some of us here aren't unhappy with it).
The point I'm trying to make is, they don't listen to those unhappy enough to quit - why would they listen to those of us still paying them?
I didn't miss the point of the original post either. I just think its a stupid idea. We play a game because we enjoy the game, not to get unsubstantial 'rewards' to feel 'valued' as customers.

That I can understand. They do need to survey the people leaving, I agree. They need a way to take feedback from them that won't generate attacks and insults from other players that this forum does.
As far as the occasional bonus rewards, to me it's more about shaking up the status quo and keeping things interesting. Heck they could be tied to events like the OP warps originally were. If the server defeats Mob X outside of the cities then for a month we get some bonus to... whatever people wouldn't find horribly offensive to receive a bonus toward. Would that be so bad?

Mog Tablets called and said Hello ;-).
Server-wide events with substance would be nice. Server-wide events that require me to chase a massive Buffalo around West Ronfaure don't peak the interest for me, sadly.

The issue is not that the game freezes; it completely crashes due to an unhandled exception and it has been confirmed by other uses as well, and some of us have been debugging it already quite a bit. I think it will soon be fixed.
It can be at least mostly avoided by disabling the battle-effects. I did a Dynamis-run and more without a single crash that way. With the effects on, I doubt that would have been possible.

I quiet enjoyed the introduction of Outpost warping. The Huge Walking Tree warping all over and the first server to kill it got a prize. That was fun.
not in game related but I'd like a boxed ultimate edition

We can't announce anything yet, but the teams around the globe are working to make sure that the 10th year anniversary is a year to remember and we think you all will enjoy some of the fun things we have planned!
As Keyln pointed out, the last update added some new additions to the FFXI title screen - the FINAL FANTASY XI 10th Anniversary logo and the FINAL FANTASY 25th Anniversary logo!
We created some logos/scripts to add to your website/blog if you'd like, which you can find below!

Also if you'd like to put the small banner in your forum signature using BBcode... Simply link to http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/ (using the forum URL tags) and use the IMG link: http://www.playonline.com/ff11/10th/s.png
For example (just remove the spaces inside the brackets):

All these secrecy and vagueness about the Anniversary... they better have something really, really, really AMAZING to announce soon and not just your usual fan service with useless cosmetic items for decoration purpose only. Though I would not be surprised if the actual announcement is underwhelming, nothing new or exciting and just a rehash warmed over leftover content with the same lame excuse of PS2 limitation, not enough time, and have no team to do more than necessary. Or maybe they will announce that they are closing server and let us play offline with our character, as our reward for being loyal in the last 10 years and pretty much telling us to take it or move to FF14.
Or they could do the unthinkable, announce new expansion that is a crossover from past FFs games - some sort of time paradox and we get to interact with characters from all past FF games similar to Dissidia series and they actually learn from their past mistakes in 2011-2012 and released the Abyssea Version 2.0 - Dissidia version - courtesy of Yoshi and team!!

LOL - FF14 Version 2.0, cannot wait to see how this turn out. And what they plan to do with FFXI. So far they have no intention of doing anything to FFXI that is remotely fun and enjoyable other than your usual grindtastic spectacular.
