I'm sure I'm not the only one that finds 99% of job abilities boring to look at - I just want to propose some dynamic job abilities for the 90-99 range (perhaps with some new effects) that are not only visually pleasing - but help balance some of the jobs that need a boost. I will give a few examples below (explaining as well as I can how they would look - please note these are not necessarily the jobs that need boosts, but merely ones that came to mind). Perhaps strong enough to be dubbed "One Hour Abilities" with additional effects.

Ninja: Ninja disappears in a cloud of smoke and reappears from the top right side of the screen slashing target monster as it lands on the left side. Disappears in a cloud of smoke and reappears on the left upper side of screen slashing target monsters and landing on right side. Disappears in a cloud of smoke and reappears above target monster delivering a powerful backstab. Attacks are somewhat inaccurate (affected by accuracy) and final powerful blow's chance of landing based on whether or not first 2 attacks landed. Additional after effect: weapons attack occasionally 2-6 times (2 per attack actually landed) with effect dissipating 2 attacks per 10 seconds.

Dragoon: Basilisk Vault - Dragoon jumps on target monster, back-flips and lands outside melee range. They then run a few steps, use the butt of the lance to vault themselves in the air and deliver a powerful stab from ~90% degree angle. Must have a lance equipped. Additional after effect: target's defense (magical + physical) lowered to 0 for the duration of 60-120 seconds (depends on if both hits land)

Beastmaster, level 99 ability "Swarm" Duration 5 minutes, recast 2 hours-Instantly Calls all Jugs currently in the Ammo slot, pet command effects all pets at once, at the end of 5 minutes all but 1 pet despawns, Snarl disabled during ability; if no jugs are present during ability, charmed pet will attract links as if the mob was a player, remain linked until enemy is dead.

I had a similar idea for Beastmaster as well - I like yours better, but I think it needs some balancing...a pet should despawn every 15 seconds or so

Sounds like you're thinking of previous Final Fantasy limit breaks, overdrives, trance moves, etc and the cut scene they use for them. I like your ideas, don't get me wrong. I can see the visual of it being awesome. I don't know how I'd see it FFXI though. I'm thinking multiple camera angles, and it only being individually appealing.

So you want 1hr recast WSs? Did you even think about this before hitting post? Besides all the additional job threads this is pretty much the most redundant idea to add to the game.

it took 3 of them to cast it in the opening movie.. I think that would be an interesting aspect if you needed at least 2 to cast it.

It would be very cool to see it as a linked spell but it would be complex to program I would think. What they could do is make it akin to -ja spells being stronger with multiple casts.

wheres my twin magic!?! but seriously, i think a multiple person spell would be awesome. i mean, this is an MMO right? not a console game where you solo everything.

what they could do is have a spell that needs at least 2 people to take effect. like if those 2 people dont finish casting within 2-3 seconds of each other, the spell fails to activate. like the skillchain window. or have it lowered in potency if casted solo.

Samurai could have a job ability called " quick draw " sort of like dragoon has a jump job ability and basically the name says it all. Samurai quickly draws his sword and slashes target quickly ( unavoidable attack ) I've always wondered why samurai never had such a skill to begin with but dragoon got jump... hmm any thoughts on this? :)

Dynamic job abilities....
What about Dynamic Entry!

Also about quick draw... So you want the samurai to put their weapon away then take it back out in the middle of combat...? Seems kind of dumb.

Also, corsairs have quick draw.

Just a suggestion, Yea corsair gets quick draw but samurais' quick draw would be completely different I can see it happen.. Perhaps a different name wouldn't confuse others.. What about Super Slash... same effect as I mentioned in previous post... Samurai would quickly slash through the enemy. For example Enemy is in front of the samurai... Samurai uses Super slash... The Samurai would be here ( X being the samurai and T being the target) ( X )----> ( T )---> ( X ) After super slash is used samurai would be behind the enemy then would spin the sword around then put his Great katana away like you see in alot of samurai movies.. then the enemy would take damage immediately after the Great katana is returned to the Samurais' Hilt.

How Does that sound? Any suggestions thoughts on this?

what about a first strike ability? like when you engage you immediately strike the target, instead of waiting for weapon delay. something like that?

Samurai will never be samurai without Gil Toss.

I think that at the 95-99 level, there should be some abilities that are somewhere between 2 Hour and the 15 second abilities.... maybe along the 20-30 minute mark. Or maybe at that level, there should be a passive trait that enhances the 2 hour ability?

Pup should obtain job ability called Fall to the Ground.

Superawesomepuppetmaster readies Fall to the ground.
Superawesomepuppetmaster falls to the ground.
Tunnel Worm obtains 100,000,000,000 Experience Points.
Tunnel Worm obtains level 9999.
Tunnel Worm finds an automation on the Superawesomepuppetmaster.

But really a new ability with a CS like event would be cool.

RNG, and SAM/RNG have Gil Toss. Have you ever bought arrows, the cost alone drove me to level Woodworking.

You could use the Weaponskill --> Magic Burst tech and make it a "Spell Chain", instead of a skill chain
