Hey there! Thank's for reading. I am a relatively new player and still learning the ropes, I have a good handle so far I would like to believe and so far, have two jobs at lv 30, unlocked subs, and have thf @ 15 to help farm items. What's missing?
I has no friends { sadface }
I tend to be quiet in groups and partys as I try to learn from other's chats, I have asked a few questions here and there but either get great info, or feel like I'm the joke in the room for asking. Anywho, I keep a positive chip on my rather large shoulder and swing away. People in Bastok really tend to keep to themselves and had bad luck with a tele shout in Jueno, but it's ok, I have a lot to learn still.
Anywho, If you happen to see me online, /wave, /poke, /slap, whatever you'd like, I'd like to make some new friends and share some great adventures. I'm looking for a linkshell at the moment, would be much better to have people to talk to instead of shouting at the mobs I fight or to myself. Btw, you know your bored when you have a heart to heart with a Landworm and get upset when he leaves you and repops 5 feet further away. See you on the battlefield!

No reason to be shy, you obviously have a good sense of humor. Best to go to some Gusgen Mines party and start random chitchat with people, maybe even ask if any of them is in a social shell. Can also /shout in Jeuno for a social LS, many are always accepting members. Even if it doesn't turn out to be the right shell for you, you still get to meet some people and it'll spread from there. It also gets easier in endgame when you can team up with lots of random people to do VW, for example. I think I met more people during VW than my entire previous FFXI career because it basically forces lots of new people on you almost every run you do. Not all of them will end up on your friend list, but it helps make these fights more entertaining, and you will remember people and /wave at them when you see them again, which happens a lot in here.

Hey Shark,
Look for Grommet, he has a wonderful shell for newer players.

If you really want to learn how to play this game right then you stay away from grounds of valor fields of valor big a$$ 18 man party's you wont learn how to play your job like that and your skill will be very low as well as your damage. Sure you can skill up on your own but its best and smart to do it as you level if your behind then you can solo skill up or even
make a skill up party (god i haven't seen one of those for years -.-) If you have a lot of time try forming a party of 6 man
you can do pages in some spots if you like. You kinda notice the exp is a lot faster and is not pain like it use to be. Its 5x faster then it use to be some 6 man party's are really good exp wise better then 18 man. After a wile if you do make your own party's your notice they are easy to make as you get use to forming them.

I'd ask you to elaborate on the bolded part, as it sounds utterly ridiculous to me, but I'm afraid it'll turn this thread into yet another leeching discussion, and Lord knows we've had plenty of those.
The best way to play is to play how you like it. If you feel you need to get to know your job some more before you get into the higher levels, then by all means, take your time, solo, try some lower level NMs or do quests/missions at your level. Otherwise just level it up, jobs and their roles change a lot at higher levels and aside from general gameplay-lessons you won't need much of what you learn at lower levels later on. And skill is a lot faster to gain at higher levels as well, so shouldn't worry about that too much. As I said, just play how you feel like.

I'm new too. Which worlds are good in general for new players?

I honestly don't think there's much of a difference, and if there is very few people would be able to compare, as people are generally stuck on their own server. Seeing how the situation is on Leviathan, it shouldn't be hard to find a newbie-friendly linkshell on most servers. Just go to Port Jeuno and shout for a social/beginner linkshell, that's how people do it here.

Awesome stuff, I tried to see if Grom was on before the shutdown, but it's ok. I'll pop in after it's done and send a /tell, thanks for the reply, can't wait to meet everyone.
Gotta say, since i left the starter areas and made that long run to Jeuno, things have really picked up. The EXP mis rolling in, I have gotten all 3 of the main tele things, even made a hour long trek to Xarcabard which I suffered a few deaths, but luckily I broke the bank buying a stack of sneak and Invis potions which made it somewhat easier. Thanks to a powerfull little Taru PhantomVirus, he helped with my first two limit breaks and I can reach 60. I unlocked BST and DRK and even though it's only lv 20, gotta say the DRK is growing on me a bit. I just hope it's good later on as well.
I read that I will soon need to visit the area of Windurst and start collecting Yaguado necklaces, seems like it will take awhile but that's ok, I got a big sword and will stay there until I have enough fame for Ninja. Hurry up Maintenance and get over with, lol.

drk is a really fun job as I am a 99 relic drk. I know PhantomVirus :)
Another way is to go ahead and ask for a pearl on their forums, that way other sackholders can get to you if grommet is not on

Submitted and awaiting activation. On the other suggestion, Phantom already got me started, I am gathering stones as we speak and he even helped me unlock a Maw to go back to the past, going to try and unlock DNC at some point and be ready at 60 next weekend so we can do the next limit break.
I'd like to also look into Sam and Nin but since they require Norg, those will have to wait a spell. I'm going to probably sit back and farm items the rest of the week, can't slay vermin and save the world on 8k in gil. See you in game!
