Achievments?

Why not? I mean, sure, there are people who hate those damn Cheevos, but I can see 'em providing a good deal of incentive for people who want changes to the game.

To bring up WoW(Always reviled and spat-upon), achievements are generally there for one of 3 reasons:
1. To show what your character has done
2. To entice people to experience content they would not otherwise be interested in
3. To provide additional challenge beyond what is normally necessary for game progress.

Since a lot of people are complaining about FFXI being easy mode now, number 3 could be a good idea. And since there's not many people outside of Abyssea these days, number 2 could also be put to good use.

Course, people will probably cite PS2 limitations and all. Or the structure of the game or whatever the excuse is. I'm just sayin', could be a step in the right direction.

There actually already are achievements. I realize they're probably not exactly what you were thinking (also only for xbox I think), but well... there they are.

Achievements can only be unlocked on the xbox (However, the conditions to unlock them can be met on any platform)

I guess I should clarify.

I meant smaller achievements, like the Missions found in Dissidia, or WoW's massive database of them. The Original FFXI achievements for 360 are honestly a bit of a joke. Just get stuff to 75! Wowza! Afterwords, they added more, dealing with smaller goals; this was a step in the right direction, but not enough.

Say you get an achievement for finding the overlook in Lufaise Medows that overlooks the old Tavnazian city. This would be a sub acheivement to a larger achievement of "Exploring The Tavnazian Region". Which itself would be a sub achievement of "Exploring the Quon Continent". If you get all the achievements for the Quon continent, you get something like a title or a mog-house decoration or maybe a piece of vanity gear. That's pretty much exactly how WoW works, granted, so maybe a bit of tweaking to make it less of a direct knock off would be good. But you get the idea, hopefully.

lol its not like lv 90 is an even an achievment- just what i want in a group a full pink with weps at half his lvl trying to tank- no thanks or better yet a full teal blm! weeeeeeeee..... i nuke for 1k with atmas- shit we were doing at 75 outside abyssea. and even then 1k was lol at best.

As posted, achievements already exist. Just log into Xbox Live while on FFXI and you can unlock them. Theres a lot to unlock.

What they -could- do, and I know they won't, is make FFXI for PC part of the Games for Windows program, or Steam (since its already on steam) which would allow achievements if FFXI is launched through those. (Optional, not required, just like it is on the 360).

I would also love to see this implemented in the game, and as for the xbox 360 achiev's they are a complete joke, for anyone that has every played wow, the achiev's in that game are half of the fun because the list is enormous and basiclly impossible to ever finish every single thing.

Everyone has probably had moments when the find themselves bored trying to find something to do, well I for one would love this type of addition as a new challenge.

They do have a primitive system already for FFXIV, and guessing it will be refined when ps3 can be released.
