Hey, so yeah... I haven't played XI for something around 5-6 months and I was thinking of coming back on board for a bit and what not, anyone mind telling me if they think it is worth it? I do rather distaste Abyssea and all of the fast leveling, but I was feeling more inclined to solo as Bst anyway.

If anyone has a chance to spare, if they could just tell me how the game has been in the past 6 months or so it would be much appreciated. I thank you kindly for taking the time to read/respond and wish you a pleasant day.

If you're on PC and still remember how FFXI plays, I would suggest downloading KoA (http://reckoning.amalur.com/) and try the demo then go from there. I havn't logged into Final Fantasy XI myself for awhile now also not sure there might be a demo for the Xbox and or PS3. Seems that Square Enix stopped my continuous payment option, Oh well...

Well then, if you put it that way perhaps it is better if I turn the other cheek, let memories stay memories I suppose :P

They're just being idiots. If you could enjoy the game before you can still enjoy it, if you couldn't then I'm afraid not much has changed to convince you. It hasn't changed much in the last half year in general, they're still trying to get a grip on Lv99 and slowly dripping in some content. Some new stuff is on the test server but not live yet. The dungeon crawl system hasn't been mentioned in a while. So in short, the answer to your question is it's pretty much the same still, unless you consider Meteor a great change.

I see, thanks for the response Arcon, I guess there really isn't anything left at this point, for me at least. Well, I wish all of you who do still enjoy it a fun time ^^ I suppose I'll go back to mmo-hunting and what not. Thank you to everyone who replied.

How do you continue to post if you don't play? I was locked out of the forum for the 8 months I couldn't get them to accept my money until they region changed my account, and now I've ended up with a new forum handle.

I have absolutely no idea...it may have something to do with me playing XIV or something... but I don't really know, it says the service account is active, but none of the services on it are... meh SE is a mystery

I don't really know the other way around, but the XIV side does not let one in if one has not logged in to the game for 30 days. I would assume it to be the same the other way around, but I guess the system is not 'perfect' on that regard... heha.

But as for your question, I guess pretty much what the others said.
Personally I don't think the game itself is worth even half the subscription-fee. It has not been for a very long time.
Then again, I haven't really played it for the game itself for many years, if ever, but instead for my friends and nearly all of the closest ones are gone so perhaps it will soon be time for me too.

If you have good friends and/or just like the amount of time-sink and random, sure, it's worth playing.

It is difficult to say if there will ever be anything 'game-changing' at all, or/and if this is one of the actual final years for FFXI Online. It certainly doesn't look good to many, but only time will tell.

Whatever happens,
The Memory Remains~

Edit:

It should be mentioned that it is the 10-year anniversary this year and I will very likely stay at least over that. They even mentioned having great plans for this year due to that (and for years to come?) but what that great actually stands for there is yet to be seen.

If you post negatively, they'll make sure you can't post if your account is closed. But if you're posting positively you're making them money.

Ahh I see, thank you for clearing that up...

Well then everyone, I suppose now isn't the time (if it will ever be) I apologize for having wasted your time and I thank you kindly for taking the time to reply.
I wish you all luck and enjoyment in FFXI.

I think it might have something to do with browser cookies. If you've never actually logged out it seems you can keep posting, I've not paid my March subscription yet as I'm leaving it until I'm less skint, but I'm still posting too. ;)

I went away for the same length as you, but founded myself tempted to come back because I had great times and played with some great people, but unlike you, I gave in to that temptation and to be honest, I've not been bored...I just stay away from the stuff I've found boring or do not like and I don't have to waste hours and hours playing at a time. I'd say I still enjoy it. However, there are other games out there, much newer ones and if they tickle your fancy, best of luck. Or if you've managed to give up MMORPG's together, then well done! :P
