I recently have purchased and started playing FFXI. Over the past 3 days i've owned the game i've so far gotten 3 BSOD's, and several times the game itself has crashed on me. I've only ever gotten a BSOD on this rig from FFXI, so i don't see it being any issue that isn't correlated with FFXI. They occured at random times throughout play. I use the Snakebyte FFXIV controller to play, if that makes a difference.

Computer specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 v2
Driver File Version: 8.17.0012.9053 (English)

Edit: The BlueScreenView info shows up with correct formatting in the preview, not sure why it screws up on the post.

Also im not sure if/where to get logs of the client crashing, otherwise i would provide them.

Rallorn,

The information contained in one of the *.dmp files may help us determine exactly what is failing on your system. These types of errors generally occur when the software is attempting to submit a request that the system cannot handle, and the *.dmp files should show us what that request is.

EpfwLWF.sys driver...may need an update to your firewall. ESET has had some issues off and on with BSOD's in Win7.

[Edit:]
Did a little googling, and some of the ESET BSOD's have been triggered by different download conditions. As a test, you could try creating exceptions in your security software specifically for FFXI. Whitelist your FFXI Parent folder and sub files/folders (usually done with wildcard: FFXI/*.* or FFXI/*) and also whitelist the FFXI servers. The servers could get a bit tricky. Could try *.pol.com, *.square-enix.net, etc. or just the entire server blocks. I had a list somewhere of some IP blocks I've scanned somewhere on these forums...will see if I can find them.

only a partial list of servers I've found over the years...there's a block around the DNS servers too (it's a big block, but could safely assume 202.67.53.1 to 202.67.53.255). Should be enough to test with to see if it makes things any better:

202.67.62.70, 202.67.62.102 pt008.pol.com

202.67.54.55 wh000.pol.com

202.67.54.52 ci000.pol.com

202.67.53.31 dns1.square-enix.net
202.67.53.95 dns2.square-enix.net
202.67.53.32 dns3.square-enix.net
202.67.53.96 dns4.square-enix.net

124.150.154.122 ffci00.pol.com

(a lot of servers in the 124.150.154.0-124.150.154.255 range, there will also be a lot of UDP traffic with servers in the 124.150.152.0-124.150.152.255 range as well)

Could you point me to where the .dmp files are located James?

And RAIST, im pretty sure you cant whitelist a folder within the firewall, only specific programs. I whitelisted all the IP's you gave me. I'll see what happens.

As a test, you could try creating exceptions in your security software specifically for FFXI.was talking about your security software in general...as in, if you have a suite that is anti-virus and firewall combined.

Some firewalls will monitor executables too. If so, you'll want to enable/allow pol.exe to the web and such as well.

I know, ESET doesnt allow firewall exceptions for folders, only for the anti virus portion. But i'll add all of the FFXI executable's to the exceptions. I've played for a couple of hours tonight without a problem with only adding the IP's, but we'll see.

could be an issue with your DirectX or something, have you tried updating it?....also, are you running SP1? I ask because I that OS version looks like it may still be RTM build 7600....think SP1 is build 7601 (daughter is playing Flyff atm, so can't check her build number).
