View Full Version : Idea: 20 ultimate abilities/spells

With the new implementation of Araise and Meteor, it got me thinking.

I would really think it would be fun if every job got a quested ultimate ability available at 99. Could be anything from a second 2 hr, with its own recast timer, to a normal ability that just happens to be strong, with like a 30min-1hr recast timer.

Some idea abilities, without specified jobs to them are:
Aura - gives a Regain effect to you and any nearby allies.
Shield - gives a damage resistance effect to yourself and any nearby allies.
Mighty Guard (Maybe BLU?) - Gives you and all nearby allies a Defense and Magic Defense bonus. (Can be a BLU ability, with a quest requiring you to kill a boss that uses this ability, like Alexander or some new monster with it.)
Stagger - With every one hit made against target enemy, that enemy loses some DEF. (Would lower target's defense by 1 every time it's hit until this effect wears, to a maximum of -50 defense or 1 defense for enemy.)
Eidolon Release (A little taste of SMN) - Take the form of an avatar, using their stats and abilities as if they were your own. Until this effect wears, you cannot summon avatars, but can use support job abilities and spells. (Would only work to turn into avatars you have, and only Shiva, Ifrit, Leviathan, Ramuh, Garuda, or Titan. Also, HP and MP would remain unchanged, and you'd get +50 to the attribute that matches the avatar you turned into.)

I'm not worried about whether these abilities or effects are implemented, just would like to see some quested abilities at 99 to add more flavor.

Edit: Don't know if this will be a real ultimate spell, if implemented at all, but Reflect also is included in my thinking start.

Cool by me, personally I would like:

Runic (JA)
Forces the next spell cast to be targeted on the caster and absorbed into their Blade.
* Can then be converted into Magical Damage, Enspell Damage or MP.
Lvl 99 RDM

Ensnare (JA)
Forces the target to focus on the caster for a duration based on Enmity calculations whilst increasing melee damage temporarily.
Lvl 99 PLD

That reminds me of Sorcerer from an older Final Fantasy game, like Final Fantasy III or IV, can't remember which. That was my favorite job. A good alternate of that ability could be:

Sorcery
Your next elemental or enfeebling spell you cast costs double the normal MP, and replaces your attacks for a short time. (This would obviously overwrite "En Spells" and other spells that can be added to your weapon, such as Auspice. This ability being an ultimate ability, would hafta be unable to be overwritten by other weapon spells and abilities.)
-When you cast a single-taget elemental or enfeebling spell, your Sorcery effect changes to EnSorcery.
-While under EnSorcery, the spell that changed your Sorcery to Ensorcery has it's effects replace your regular melee attacks, such as damage and status effects, and every time you swing your weapon, you get the animation of the spell casted on the enemy.
-This also makes your regular melee attacks become considered magic damage. If the spell that you added to your weapon doesn't do damage, then you don't do damage with your melee attacks for the duration, but instead just the status effect the spell causes.
-The attacks with the spell effect don't cost MP every time you swing.
Spells that would work with Sorcery:
-Aero, Aero II, Aero III, Aero IV
-Blizzard, Blizzard II, Blizzard III, Blizzard IV
-Fire, Fire II, Fire III, Fire IV
-Stone, Stone II, Stone III, Stone IV
-Thunder, Thunder II, Thunder III, Thunder IV
-Water, Water II, Water III, Water IV
-(From /BLM) Burn, Choke, Drown, Freeze, Rasp, Shock, Stun
-Bind, Blind, Blind II, Break, Gravity, Gravity II, Poison, Poison II, Sleep, Sleep II,
-Paralyze, Paralyze II, Silence, Slow, Slow II
-Dia, Dia II, Dia III

With the new implementation of Arise and Meteor, it got me thinking.

Please don't compare Arise to Meteor (no matter how good or bad it ends up being) or anything that anyone would remotely consider an "ultimate" anything. Arise is essentially going to be a show off spell for White Mages with resources to burn. Rule of thumb, if the spell or ability hinges around someone dying it generally isn't something you want to be using often.

Thanks for pointing that out. I just realized I misspelled Araise...better fix that.

Either way, that was definitely a troll post, because it had nothing to do with the thread itself, only a comment I made you didn't like. This is and will always remain a video game, not real life. So relax and enjoy it.

Weren't they already talking about adding new 2hr abilities you had to merit?

Yes, any statement disagreeing with anything you say is a troll post. Please don't disservice yourself by deflecting people and assuming malice. Also comments implying people are upset apparently makes you cool.
I was being completely serious and completely relevant, and if you didn't want to take polite discussion then perhaps you shouldn't have posted. If you still don't understand how my comments where irrefutably relevant to this topic I shall explain now in the hopes that you do not to jump to conclusions about the intentions of posters in the future, and so that you may understand my original comments (which apparently needed clarification despite my original judgement of clarity).

Arise is just a raise effect with a buff to shortening weakened status duration. Dying is not a sound strategy but a contingency and a White Mage's job when healing is to keep people from dying. Thus it is arguable that the spell is far from "ultimate" in any way ("ultimate" spells and abilities being the topic of your thread as written). One could argue that other things would be much more fitting of such a title (and although I didn't write them down previously, here are a few examples for further clarity and understanding of my unambiguous intentions; a barspell that protects against all elements, a stronger tier or buff to Protectra and Shellra beyond what is possible with AF2+2 and full merits, and ability that gives the same effect as the AF3+2 pants to the tune of 15% and instant recast on cures for a short time).

I hope that clarified how my original comments were relevant. I sincerely hope that you just misunderstood, but I am more then used to people who cry troll as soon as someone says something that remotely disagrees with their opinions so I will not in any way be surprised of such an outcome, however I will be deeply disappointed.

It would be nice if PUP could summon an Iron Giant, Caturae or Proto-Omega/Ultima to wreck havoc on the unsuspecting mobs of Vana'diel

Where is that? I've seen mentions of 2hrs becoming merittable, but not anything about new 2hrs altogether. I even made a thread discussing what cool additions they could add to alot of current 2hrs.
