So many things wrong with this that I don't even know where to start.

I don't know when you'll realise that no one actually likes you, and all your contributions are utter garbage.

Were you looking in a mirror when you said that?

You're pretty clever aren't you? It's a fact that very few people like him. I'll agree and say my post didn't contribute much, but I don't have forums full of people who don't like me. I'd need to meet both of those requirements to be talking about myself. Also, what is it to you that I call trolls out when I see them?

Ok the topic of this thread is titled; Buying the game. I'm going to go on a limb here and assume you're talking about Final Fantasy XI cause we're on the forums! Don't do it... don't buy the game until we all see Square Enix fix the game.. Ahh hell just go buy Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning you'll be more happier! There is also a Demo on "Origins"

Looking at those prices, then figuring in shipping and in some cases the cost of whatever add-ons are not included; I'm moderately confident it would end up being cheaper to just buy a bargain basement PC that could play FFXI and download the most recent collection for twenty bucks.

I'm just going to mirror what other have said and I do have it on the PS/2, XBOX and PC. The xbox locks up under load. There is a post around here from the somewhere that basically says the dev team knows about it but it is difficult to fix. The lock up happened so much in campaign, besieged, old school dynamis and any zerg I ever tried to do I eventually started using a laptop with HDMI out and a x-box controller to play on the big screen from the comfy couch.

BTW the x-box controller work fine on the PC version except the triggers do not work. I got over this in about an hour.

Your best bet in finding a copy of the 360 version is to buy USED version of either the 2008 version or ultimate collection. This gets you the install data for the main four expansions. After you get that, buy the digital PC version from Amazon and activate it to create your account. This will allow you to play on 360 without paying TOO much.

If you play on 360 a lot, it will contribute to your 360 getting the red ring of death, and the game isn't exactly cheaper for the 360, and a PC that costs as much as a 360, will run the game better then the 360. Might as well just buy a PC for like $300, a 360 or ps2/3 controller to use with it, and a copy of the game for the PC and use that instead. It will give you better graphics and run smoother and you won't have to worry about DCing and losing everything while doing campaign, besieged, voidwatch, etc. None of that content might affect you now, but I assure you, in the future it will. You also know you will be able to get every CS in the game on this new PC, unlike a ps2/3 or a 360. There's many CS's in the game that just plan don't work on these systems. You should really think about all this before you buy a 360 copy of the game.

Fantastic observation.

I never had issues with the cs either on the xbox and I did use it for a long time. I don't think I played the PS2 enough to know (was always the backup connection)

When I played on 360 for several years, the only issue I ever had was that it would crash right at the end of every besieged.

On a side note, there used to be drivers available for the 360 controller on PC that allow you to use the triggers correctly. they were at http://www.katch.ne.jp/~morii/driver/x360wc/index.html but they seem to have been taken down for some reason. Glad I kept copies.

I mean you should have a computer?
A duo core and a intel hd 3000 can run xi like its nothing.
XI is not that demanding, at all.
Hell, I ran XI on my windows tablet not that long ago.

I've never heard anything good from Xbox XIers.
Never had problems with PS2 and started using PC and never looked back.

*Steam usually has really good deals.
I think i got the newest pack for like 15 bucks?
Plus you can download it a plethora of times on different computers n such.

I prefer using the 360 version of the game as I'm a 360 gamer, but it was hard to get a hold of, particularly as I'm in the UK, I originally bought the 2007 edition as Amazon had a second hand copy available (so I was missing Wings of the Goddess) and then by luck I found WoTG on eBay and won the bid.

You'll find the 360 version hard to get a hold of, but your best bet is to keep an eye on eBay. Alternatively, it doesn't require a high spec computer to run then game and you can buy it off of Steam with all expansions for fairly cheap. Sure you have to wait a while for it to download and even longer for it to update. I used that as a solution when I was missing WoTG...and still use it as a solution because the 360 crashes during Beseiged and Voidwatch.

Though, gamepad vs keyboard (you can use a keyboard on a 360 anyway and a gamepad on Windows), I actually prefer the gamepad and naysayers may say that it's slower, yet because I'm comfortable on a gamepad and I am still able to speedily go through my macros, I'm a lot more efficient in using it.

I would definitely advise you to give up your search and play something else, unless you like torturing yourself as a hobby.

FFXI is still fun. I'm still having a good time with it, though mainly because I still haven't done allot of the content yet. The people who keep on making those negative posts are only the vocal minority that make it appear to be a crappy game, while the silent majority love the game. There will always be a vocal minority that bash the game on a regular basis no matter which mmo it is, so don't be deterred by the haters here that have no better use of their time than to bash the game. It's allright to give constructive criticism, but just bashing FFXI just for the sake of bashing it doesn't help anyone. If you hate the game so much there's the door behind you. We definitely won't miss you.

SquareEnix is sadly a terribly poor company when it comes to MMOs. Even with a test server and feedback forums, when people say "Moon based Fenrir pacts do not work in reality" they reply back "Sorry, according to the lore it has to be this way, we can't adjust it just to make it fit into game mechanics".

So even when they know about problems, they choose to ignore all customers to run on the ideas that their storyboard boss have written up. Classic Japanese company perhaps, where you can't say no to your boss opinions, even if you know there are 100 000 people who disagree.

FFXI in itself still has the potential it had 2003. It is just that it isn't run by a company that listens to what their customers wants. Sometimes they make attempts, where they ask "What augments do you want?" and then they give you the options of picking +15 axe skill on ice staff, or +3 MP on your ice staff.

I'm kind of sad that I'll probably quit this game before it becomes enjoyable. It looks very likely that 2017 is going to be the year that FFXI really shines. Assuming anyone is left and hasn't given up yet.

Whilst SE are terrible at listening to its player base and makes a lot of poor decisions, it's still a fun game and I'm sure not everybody who plays is playing out of hope things will get better or because they're addicted. There's a lot of content in the game so for a new player there's plenty of things for you to do and endgame can be fun too if you don't become too involved in it, as in waste hours upon hours of repeating the same taste to get gear you want.

I've played other MMORPGs and FFXI is my favourite, I even quit FFXI and even decided to try WoW as some of my friends play it and it was boring in comparison. I think it's a shame FFXI hasn't grown in the direction it perhaps should, but still there's enough content to keep you going for a while, if you don't like it after that...well you don't have to continue with your subscription. ;)
