Expansion download

I have previously purchased the expansion packs for the game (rise, chains, treasures) but I now do not have them installed. Since I am using the same Square Enix ID, how do I download the expansions?

No official client (except the trial one, dut don't know what it contain) is available for download. If you have purchased the game did it come with cd or dvd? if yes the extension are probably on them. If you have the full game install, it's probably already on your hard drive, and you don't have to download anything.

All you should have to do is have the original game in your registry to play.

Anything else can be downloaded via the servers (slow as fk) or torrented, etc.

If you go through POL, just set it up overnight and it'll download all the necessary files and you'll be able to play as normal, even without the disks or having installed them.

The free trial client is the full client, as far as I know. I think you should be able to download it, and just ignore the free trial bits and log in with your old account. Get it at finalfantasyxi.com

Additionally, SE offers the full game for download temporarily if you buy it from their online store. I did this a month or so ago, came back after a few years and did not have Abyssea nor the "add on scenarios", so I got the $20 Ultimate Edition which is the entire game. They give you a link to download the client which you can then burn to your own DVD(s) - it's 4.3GB.

the issue might also be u need to actually register the expansions for them to be accessible. but if u got them via a collection when you first registered you prolly should already have them registered in the same code. you register on playonlines site where you sign into your SE account.

There seem to be some info that might be a tad confusing (it may very well be just me, but I'll lay out some thoughts as well).

Unless they have changed something drastically, the expansion packs need to be indeed installed, before PlayOnline viewer will download corresponding content updates. I have not actually tried it for a long time, so perhaps that is not the case any more, but I do definitely remember playing the game without installing certain expansion packs, such as the Treasures of Aht Urhgan, and the client would notify the user that they will be unable to enter areas included with it.

As for the add-ons, the content those use are downloaded if the required expansion(s) are/is registered, and installed.

So even if you have registered them to your account, you will still need a medium to install them from, be it physical media, or the nowadays available digital alternative from sources such as Steam (which I would avoid for various reasons), METABOLI, NEXWAY, and D2D.

What comes to the Free-trial, I do not think that includes the data for the expansions? For one, you can not even enter the areas included with Rise of the Zilart (could be just a restriction but providing the data would be rather pointless in that case). I have not tried personally, but that is what I would assume from reading the description on 'how to convert the trial-account into a full-account'.

Do note that this is from the European Support Centre, and I have been unable to find a corresponding article from the American site, so if you're not in the Europe, things might not go quite the same way, although I would assume the retailers to still be mostly valid.

Another route for the retailers is to navigate to the PlayOnline site:

Select your region, then click the main banner and you should be on the correct path.

Also, while you can access the Square Enix Account Management System via the PlayOnline site, I think it should be mentioned that one does not register any codes at a playonline.com site (nor the PlayOnline viewer), but at a secure.square-enix.com sire instead.

the mini expansions, couldnt anyone help with any battle on that even people withuout the expansion? i know they didnt get rewards but they could still enter and help? when i bought those i never actually installed them. they came with the version update AKA a part of the regular game just you could only benefit from them by purchasing them. further proved by how anyone can enter and participate in the battles? i am tho pretty sure you might need to actually install the regular expansions. there was a file (download program) they had us download when you bought the collection on the playonlines site. which as far as i know is jsut a downloader i wonder if there is anyway for the OP to get that file and use that within the rules.

Yes, that is pretty much what I was trying to say.

Perhaps I worded it a bit badly, but yeah, if you have installed and registered FINAL FANTASY XI, PlayOnline, and Rise of the Zilart, then you have access to each and every area used for the add-ons: A Crystalline Prophecy, A Shantotto Ascension, A Moogle Kupo d'Etat.

For the Abyssea add-ons, one needs to have FINAL FANTASY XI, PlayOnline, and Rise of the Zilart, as well as the Wings of the Goddess expansions registered, and installed.

That's what I meant that their content is downloaded/updated as long as the required expansion(s) are installed (and registered).

As for the "download program" you mention, I don't know what you are referring to.
A downloaded installer from a retailer, you mean?

One would need to purchase that for it to be legit, no doubt. ^^;

There is no (legitimate) way to obtain the install data for the expansions other than to actually install them from a disc or from the downloadable service you got the game from.

SE doesn't make money from the files themselves, but from the keys needed to access the content and monthly payments to maintain your character. You can obtain them any way you want, the game won't work unless you paid SE.

This is why you are not allowed to share your ACCOUNT with others.

(Side note, copyright infringement is not the same as piracy. Piracy is the propaganda term used to make the matter look worse then it actually is. But that discussion is for another forum ;)
