After playing FFXI for many years, the only problem I really have with the game is the music on Start-up when you are logging into the game, it becomes very annoying after 1000+ log in's. Please push for a function that allows players to easily disable it.

I wish it would play more than just the WotG and original openings. Maybe it should play one at random each time you log in. Cycling through the different openings at random would at least break the monotony. Also, yeah you should be able to turn it off if you want.

I'd settle for just a volume control. I never understood why THAT music has to be 2,000 db louder than anything else involved with the game....

This should be the new startup music

Except for <call>s, which seem to turn all your speakers' volume settings to max before they go off.

Mute button is your friend.

you can disable the sound in playonline viewer configs. id like one of the old start up music (pre-tau).

Yeah I think people are talking about the actual splash-screen where you can select character, delete character; and the character select screen. Not the PoL Client.

The options you're suggesting turns off all sound for the PoL client or Mutes all of FFXI not just the startup screen.

It's not as simple as one might imagine, actually, due to the way the whole section of the application is built.

It was even officially mentioned in one thread in the past that they are currently (at the time any ways) unable to change it. Or something along the lines of that.

Unfortunately I can not remember where it was, but it shouldn't be too difficult of a task to find it, if you want to. ^^

Edit:

Well, it wasn't quite as easy as I had thought!
I couldn't find it with some keyword searches but I found this (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/11696-ATTN-DEV-title-screen-music?p=148997&viewfull=1#post148997), which would confirm that I indeed was not imagining things. It also gave me a time-line, and by which I then looked up all the Community Rep posts.

Still nothing.

Then I remembered that it must have been in one of those The Final Fantasy XI Team Answers Your Questions! at www.playonline.com and indeed, it is, from 25/02/2011:

Q: Is there a way to adjust the volume of the title screen BGM? It always seems to be either too loud or too soft, and never just right.

A: While both in-game and PlayOnline Viewer music volume can be adjusted in their respective configuration screens, there regrettably is no way to adjust volume for the title screen. We apologize for the inconvenience.

I guess turning down the volume is to much for some people to do.

The problem is many people have stuff going on other then the game. Other Music, Ventrillo, TeamSpeak, etc. and globally muting / adjusting volume affects all of that also.

You can turn off title screen sound if you don't want any sound in ffxi period by just editing the registry. Most people I know play without any game sound anyways so it's an easy fix. The only real loss is you can't hear chatmon either.

this game has awesome bgm, entertaining sound effects, and I've found that a lot of the time, I know I've gotten aggro by hearing it before anything else, and if I'm on the ball, I can hear the aggro first and manage to avoid actually getting hit for a while. I couldn't play this game w/o sound. I've tried, it feels weird as hell.

Because turning down the volume for 10 seconds totally ruins that.
