View Full Version : Attachment Configuration Retention

One of the aspects of FFXI concerning Puppet Masters I would like SE to implement is a system of saving configurations of automaton attachments. This would allow you to set a series of configurations suited for specific situations and drastically cut down on the set up time.

There have been many times that I'm using a DD auto then due to some freak happening that FFXI is so well know for, I'd need to change to a Healing auto or vice versa.

I don't believe that this would be game breaking because you would still have to take into consideration deactivation, Deus X, and Activation timers, but would provide many benefits.

Players have automatic gear equip on job change as well as macros, automatons have nothing but almost as much 'gear' as the average job...

I can see where SE would make their defense in this case. Most likely, the awkward inconvenience of rearranging attachments is the game's deterrence from a player ripping out massive damage with sharpshot, then pulling out a huge Cure VI with a simple: Deactivate -> Macro Attachment Swap -> Activate Deploy. Even with the 1 minute recast on deactivate, this tactic would be really easy to pull off.

Granted, I'm just as frustrated myself when I have to wade through attachments. I feel like macro swapping should be possible, but it won't happen unless the right limitations are imposed to maintain balance (I know that word makes you cringe, but it is what it is.)

I'm totally for this, but for all intents and purposes, if you're really freaking out and need the heal, you're just gonna throw on Damage Gauge then Deus Ex that sucker. Then follow with the Salve/Repair and hope you last the rest of your Deactivate recast. If they would allow a preset option, it definitely shouldn't be macroable, just within the normal attachment menu.

So pretty much, what ^ he said.

I agree with the OP, this would be my #1 request for PUP. However, as Camwin points out, this has been requested on several occasions - the last response (to my knowledge) was July 2011:

Camate says:

While we would like to do something for this, we would first need to perform a lot of work to revamp the user interface, so this will be difficult to accomplish right away. Sorry :(

It is about time though...

This may seem out of character for a career PUP, but there is something we as players can do. It is far from perfect, but can be lifesaving. In that circumstance Where you need to do a quick automaton swap. If you absolutely need to switch, just deac, unequip attachments, swap head/frame and put on a couple key attachments and leave the rest blank until you are safe.

If you are going from melee to soul soother for a quick heal or few. Throw on Vivi-valve and damage guage and activate.

If going from Mage to VE to save you and for them to take all your hate, attach strobe, and both armor plates. Activate then vent, as well as using a fire maneuver to solidify auto having hate.

Yes these means are far from perfect, but have more than saved my tookus numerous times.

If you are familiar with your automaton and attachments to a small degree, both processes should border on 15 seconds, of not less. Which would probably only be a few more seconds than if you had to choose from a preconfig.

I agree with this because I've done it myself a few times, but I disagree because not everyone can be that fast.

That's why I said you must be familiar with automaton. If you just practice it for even a couple hours just swapping and changing, you will have it down. :)

People have figured out that BLU can do just that (damage then cure), and that WHMs can deal some pretty decent club damage, and that /DNC allows you to do bounds more than /anythingelseever - Why would SE argue about 'balance' at this point in this regard? PUP is treated a lot like Beastmaster (or at least I've always seen it that way. no love T_T), so why can't they decide to change their frame without the hassle of reattaching attachments specific to that frame? It would come down to the same amount of time it would take a BST to release their pet and use another jug. Definitely not game breaking, and would allow PUPs to shine ever so much slightly brighter.

Why does every "please make pup suck slightly less" thread get pups coming out of the woodwork to make excuses for SE about why pup needs to stay terrible? "Oh no! If they did that then pup would be 1/4 as good as a blu!". I really like pup, and it would be nice if someday, the job would be worth using for something. Pup is so far down the list of useful jobs there is absolutely no danger of small changes like this suddenly making us overpowered.

Liked.

This is something that should have been with the job from the start.
