Just got into the PUP scene, and like always, used the Abyssea Turbo levelling system, so my skills are as follows:

Melee ~ 120
Ranged ~ 0 lol
Magic ~ 65

I was wondering if you guys had any efficient ways to skill up the puppet? I know once you hit 280ish you can just Abyssea but is it better to start off slow on low monsters?

For magic I plan to use the Afflictors in Beadeaux for Cursna spam so Magic isn't really on my mind, Magic is always the easiest due to Bio/Dia.

Im currently in aby- grauberg skilling up my auto, lol. Firstly, ill address the afflictors trick. It doesn't work the same way it use to. Since the automaton has multiple cooldown timers, seperate ones for -nas and enfeebles, it will cursna you, then enfeeble what its deployed on. Now this doesn't mean the trick doesn't work anymore. You just need to deploy/retrieve in intervals longer that the -na cooldown.

Secondly, your auto needs to land a hit in order to skillup. So yes, use lower lv mobs to skill it up into the high 200/low300 range. The general kuftal->tree->aby rule applies once you get your melee/ranged up to i think 180. Before then, just use the same mobs you would exp on at those lvs. And buy a percolator, i noticed an immediate improvement in skillup rate when i bought mine. Good luck!

the afflictor trick just doesn't work anymore me thinks. Previously you could just go AFK 20hrs with a mob engaged on yourself and the automaton would keep tryin to cursna you.
Now the automaton would cast dia or whatnot on the mob, eventually getting hate, eventually starting to deal damage and eventually the target will die.
Can't afk anymore :( but hopefully Percolator should make those skillups a bit faster.

If you use third party tools you could program a script that does a fast deploy then retrieve immediately after (automaton will finish casting his cursna), then wait a few seconds for cooldown on -na (5 seconds?) and start back again from deploy.
Rinse and repeat for hours.
Should work!

Hopefully I'm very close to the magic cap. Well, tbh not that close, I'm like 30+ skills away, but I got access to all spells and a decent set so I'm happy already.
I'm more worried about my melee and ranged skills, those are like 60 levels away from cap ; ;

I think you can go to Castle Zvhal (S) and park them on fortalices up to 75 LVL skill capish. There are 20 or so of those scattered across that zone if I remember.

My 2 cents on the Sharpshot. You can level sync in Gusgen to get it started and earn merits (slowly) while you do it. After I capped at 25ish, I accidentally discovered Beadeaux was a great place to skill up, considering the level range of the turtles as you get deeper into the zone. I gained about 200 skill points without really trying (still dont have the Percolator at 99, capped in everything 'sides VE melee), and as soon as I got Daze, it really sunk in what I had been missing (I didn't get Sharpshot till after lvl 40, only because I found out I had to in order to get Soulsoother).

Magic just kinda happens while soloing (especially now with the super-frequent casting). I tried the Cursna thing before the PUPdate, and it never worked for even 5 minutes because either a.) the Quadav moved out of casting reach so the auto ran up and slapped it or b.) the Quadav moved just within reach to get slapped. Unless you leveled MNK, you'll probably need to cap H2H, and possibly EVA. So go beat up Altepa Dolls once your auto can at least Cure IV.

The secret was to agro a pugil (by healing next to it) and bring it down to the afflictor. Therefor it is swinging at you for next to no dmg, and will never wander into the auto's melee range. However, with the split magic casting timers you need to deploy/retreive or else it'll start to debuff the pugil.
