I just had the same issue as stated above get error code FFXI-3331.
Edit: On a side note seems like an update error of some kind like the test server and client aren't communicating properly.(But eh what do I know)

Just want to report that I also got this same error today after updating from the previous version.
I'm guessing the update didn't set the client version number to whatever the server requires it to be, or a similar issue on the server end.
Has anyone been able to log onto the server at all since the update?

Still cannot get past the initial log in screen.
Error Code:FFXI-3311.

Did a File check found 49 files corrupt. Fixed files but still had error code FFXI-3331.

I did a file check and found 0 files corrupt after getting the error. This is purely a problem on their end.

It kinda stinks when something like this happens on a Friday because we know we can't reach you until Monday afternoon the earliest and the GMs in game are largerly unresponsive besides just telling us to submit feedback on the through POL which we all know looks like this on their end:
