It's amazing to me that i don't see posts on what i feel is the real issue with the game at the moment. I and other feel the mobs in the game are to difficult. They're all designed to challenge parties. Example. My girl friend needs her testimony for RDM to challenge Maat. Okay. She heads to the easiest mob that drops the item. A Hover Tank drops this and their level is 64-68. Okay. She has capped skills for level 70. Shouldn't be to tough. WRONG! This mob double attacks and has base attack that's to fast to cast most spells EVEN when slowed and paralyzed. She wins a few fights barley alive from the decent challenge just for the Papyrus to not drop at all. This is ridiculous completely. Same goes for these Limit breaks. Without help there isn't a single level 50 who can take on a Lich for a item that barley drops. For new players. This is a TERRIBLE obstacle to have to over come. You can argue with me and tell me to ask for help. Maybe find a linkshell. Let me stop you all there with this. WE DID. No one wanted to help her and no one cared to give a shell. WAIT WAIT one person did, but nobody cared to help with her request. These mobs need to be adjusted accordingly to how the game so nowadays. Mobs attacks need decreased, attack speed decreased, and health cut in half so one fight doesn't drag on for 5 minutes a piece. Thoughts anyone?

Sorry to hear you are having trouble getting this done. Our server used to have a lot more help available. The GK items can sometimes have a pissy drop rate....I've run people out and gotten bomb coal and exo mold 1/1 and then taken 3 hours to get the papyrus before. It's just one of those screwy things with the random number generation in this game sometimes.
I'm not going to be on until later today....probly be tooling around from about 4pm-8pm Eastern. This actually may be good timing for her too... have a few players coming back that re-rolled and such or are taking up new jobs. Someone just hit their 50 LB the other day. Will try to look you guys up later to check on you.
As for the RDM trying to solo stuff....that's been a long-time gripe with that job in general. I got fed up with that job myself at 51 about 2 years ago. Being the "Jack-of-all-trades" kind of job, SE loves to really screw with it. That's one of those jobs where gear selection can be the make or break for it sometimes. Once you get the choice gear for it though, it is incredible--seen RDM do some crazy stuff in this game.

I do pretty much agree, but seeing changes for these are not too likely to be seen, I think (usually when I say that, they will do it though). I always thought the point was for me to prove my skill when advancing past a limit, but the way things are, I would guess they intended players to tackle those limits as a group.
Sure, that might have happened a few times when the limits were first raised, but after that, people would just be helped by players with higher level characters, which also takes any challenge away.
In the end of the day, I think I would say all the limits should be 'soloable', if for nothing else, it would feel more rewarding for the individual. This, of course, poses the difficulty that the quests would need to be done so that it would challenge every job equally, since it can be very different to defeat a certain monster as a Red Mage as it is as a Samurai, for example.
In short, yeah, they should probably make them easier in a way or another.
That does not mean I like the quests we had after the Maat fight (all the quests in the game really became the same monotonous trials and crests), and the final one is another party battle, favouring certain jobs and tactics (really would have preferred a Maat-esque fight).
But I digress!
That's another topic altogether.
As for Red Mage near the battle against the Maat specifically, I always recommend what I did myself.
That is going for the Ruby Quadav at the Qulun Dome mostly because it's good practice for the Maat fight itself.
Sure, it might not be the most easy place to even get to, but it just might be worth it. It did bring me great joy when I finally could sleep it whenever I wanted to, and just slowly enjoy defeating it, faster and more effectively every time as my skills went higher and higher.
If the Ruby Quadav is victorious, then beating Maat isn't going to be too likely, probably.
Getting effective gear these days probably shouldn't be an issue, especially considering that the 'high-quality staves' for example are not from 500k to 1M as they were back when I did that...
Just some thoughts~
Best of luck to you both, and have fun!

Thank you for the positive feed back guys. We appreciate it.
First off its good to see that there are new Players around and i dont see y they don't get help from Shouts.
That is said an shows you how selfish a lot of the Players have become....

For this part... seriously? This is an MMO its not ment do do this kind of stuff solo.
Since VoW the playing skill is something to worry about. There is no way that a Rdm that cant do Ruby Quadavs (or the Pots), could beat Maat.
The main Issue is that ppl don't learn their Jobs via FoV and the like.
A Player would learn their Job before... So what am i trying to say?
Its not her fault or anyones. SE made Exp so easy to get that players wonder if something is mildly hard.
But FFXI was never as easy as it is now. Players can't play as good as they used to.
I hope you see why none mentioned the problem of to high difficult. Its because there isn't any Problem.
(And Rdm was my first Maat in 2005, was harder back then)
Well actually i think the Game should be harder but thats just me.

You're playing a MMO, tell her to join a linkshell and make friends or create a mule account.

As was said before, it's simply not meant to be done solo. The situation to get help may be a bit worse these days, but not impossible, as RAIST pointed out to you, and I think you should take him up on his offer, if that fits your schedule.
Are you guys playing on the same POL account? Because if not, your PLD82 should be able to help her out quite easily with this.
If you care to share your strategy for soloing the Hover Tanks, maybe we can help you out on that as well. Because while it's true that some things weren't meant to be done solo, farming testimony can be done on some jobs, especially RDM.

Honestly, I wouldn't even mind them reducing the mobs' levels, but there are just a few isolated incidents where you're at the point that you can't level past a mob's difficulty (G1, G2 and Maat-preparation). That's three times in your FFXI career that you'll need to get help from someone (obviously not counting endgame-content, most of which is not soloable, just in case you didn't know). As I said, should definitely take RAIST up on his offer.
Otherwise, you can consider asking for a newbie-friendly linkshell on the forums here and do a server-transfer, if that's something you'd consider. For example, we'd also help you out on Leviathan, if that's an option for you.

Shame I'm on a different server as well, else I would gladly help, too.
If possible, though, I would strongly encourage on getting a personal account for each of you because if you have the possibility to play at the same time, I can almost guarantee that you would have a lot more fun.
That, and it is actually a violation of them rules, that is the User Agreement or 'Terms of Service' to share the account data, which not many even know and even less care about (even SqEX doesn't seem to care much, but it definitely still can produce complications of sorts). ^^;
It also creates many more inconveniences along the road. I'm certainly not telling you what to do, but I can tell from experience that it is a lot of fun to actually play with a close friend.
Again, best of luck to ya, and don't worry, you will be hearing a lot of this "make friends" stuff where ever you go and even happen to mention anything related to 'soloing' in a MMO.
I personally solo more than the average player, probably, and am of the opinion that an MMO needs solo-content just as well as any game, and as I mentioned before, these 'limit-breaks' should have never been made basically impossible to solo or even duo at their designed levels.
I'll stop writing now, before I go on for too long, again. ^^
Again, best of luck to ye~

A Hover Tank drops this and their level is 64-68.
That does suck. Years ago, I got mine from Ruby Quadavs at 69, and I soloed that (/NIN). It's not easy and might take a little time, but with help, it should be cake. It's also good practice for Maat, because the RDM Mat fight is by and large, the biggest bitch in this entire game. I had a friend who was 0/36.

yeah.. the pots can be flaky sometimes with their drop rates. Sometimes get them back-to-back in sky, other times not one will drop in an hour. Ruby Quad in Qulun dome seemed to be the more consistent drop...usually get one in around 6 kills or so at worst. But, he can be a bit of a handful if you aren't prepared (think he was like 72 or something). I had one of those friends that had a hard time with Maat too....would run out there and pull all his little frieds to the zone line so he didn't have to worry about them and could just focus on killing that Ruby SOB for testy.
We burned up all our nyzul tags last night (floor 40....getting there), not sure if we'll be teaming up for anything tonight. Only thing on my plate atm is gonna be recapping weapons on WAR (it's about 1200 from dinging 93)....so should have time to go slaughter something if she still needs that testy. Just need to get together somehow if you want the help.
REALLY wish they would enable PM on these boards. Would make this kind of thing easier to set up.....
