I'm now officially jonesing! Although I don't think a MUD style version of FFXI would be much fun... it'd probably go something like this:

The Zu hits Vivivivi for 3 points of damage!
Vivivivi casts Thunder on the Zu of 38 points of damage!
A Goblin ambusher appears out of nowhere and kills the whole party!
Vivivivi is in East Saratubaratu.
Vivivivi walks north.
Vivivivi walks north.
Vivivivi walks north.
Vivivivi walks north.
Vivivivi walks north.
Vivivivi walks north.
Vivivivi walks north.
Squeaky: Where are we going?
Vivivivi: beats me, can't see a damn thing.
Vivivivi shakes with laughter!
Squeaky shakes with laughter!
Awne sighs dejectedly.

MUDs are text based Multi-User-Dimensions/Dungeons played via a "Telnet" program or browser plug-in.

I'm currently helping to create a Final Fantasy series-based MUD with a turn-based combat engine, rather than the streaming combat normally found in MUDs, to make it more like the older FF games. It's not anywhere near allowing players in, but it's a fun project. It's also not including FFXI's Vana'diel either... just the older games at this point, although we may have FFXI jobs and abilities make it in.

(It's LPC based, rather than Diku or Circle, or Silly. I must admit I haven't kept up with the other MUDos's out there to know if "silly" would be worth pursuing for the project)

Enjoy the C.D. order. SE tends to be really strict when it comes to their IP so really should avoid referencing previous games.

Nah, they only care when you stand to make money, or actually infringe on copywrites, such as using "Final Fantasy MUD" as the name. Fan-based non-profit things won't get that problem if they're careful.
