I forgot the proper term for it, but a trend in many MMORPGs nowadays is to let players have a secondary "aesthetic" set of armor they can "equip", which consists solely of the visible pieces of armor, so in FFXIs case itd be head/body/hands/legs/feet.

This set of armor is the one displayed to other players at all times, but has 0 effect on stats, while the players stats are actually modified by what they are wearing in their "real" equipment slots.

I really like how my Toci's harness and Ocel head look together, however these pieces of gear are only swapped in for a split second while I weaponskill, and while I'm standing around idle outside of battle of course. It would be nice to be able to set ffxi to display my character as wearing my toci's harness 24/7, while I'm really swapping around armor underneath it in battle.

I was curious if we could find out from the dev team if such a system is even remotely possible, ps2 limitations, etc etc. Just a yes/no on whether we could ever even have a chance of seeing a system would be cool, and if someone is already toying around with it over there that'd also be awesome to hear.

I know world of warcraft just recently brought in such a system after being out for roughly as long as ffxi, however its a PC only game, which I know changes everything development wise.

Either way, thank you for your time, and I know we all would appreciate any response at all for this :D

Costumes. And you can indeed find them in many online games, most MMOs and all F2Ps.

It would circumvent a lot of issues, such as losing target lock for cures or missing lines in the chatlog when swapping gear during the 5 seconds after a weaponskill.
