View Full Version : [dev1065] equipment-specific pets

Assuming that SMN is included in the following quotes:
quote "Additional planned features, such as equipment-specific magic spells and pets, have been postponed to allow for more thorough testing concerning attributes, the number of potential users and the process by which to obtain them"
If you guys are planning to release a new avatar that can only be used when a specific weapon equipped.... Please do not make it difficult to obtain.
Quote " Also under deliberation is whether to limit the availability of such equipment or make it relatively simple to obtain."
Given the shear number of jug pets available to beastmaster(45 jugs and monsters outside abyssea)) compared to those available summoner (9 useable avatars) i think it would be unfair to make any future avatars difficult to obtain. BST only have to go the AH and buy jugs....

I saw this and instantly thought it was SEs idea of a Claustrum "fix".
The only way I can see this being applied to Relics etc is for them too add it to Mythic's, and even then you'll probably need the ridiculous Afterglow trial finished in order to start the pet trial. In terms of Summoner, it could also cause complications with gear swapping if the pet is dismissed automatically when you remove the equipment.

Considering getting one avatar would be like getting 10 spells, it is hard to believe they'd put any avatars on a weapon or armor.
Maybe spirits... but you know how useful that would be to have. "You can skip using avatars and instead summon this useless spirit from your weapon".

Technically Phoenix was in that guys Sword.... So it's happened before where the story is concerned.
As for the OP: Don't compare BST and SMN they're the same only in the fact they're a pet job.
They call forth beasts to which there is thousands, SMN's call UNIQUE creatures (avatars)

SE has shunned the smn for so loooong (and not to mention how many times). Summoner should be the most sought out job in Final Fantasy considering the amount of fun we have when using summons in all other games!
At-least invent new species of summons/avatars... maybe a avatar not related to any element at all, a frog, a dragon, a pig, an orc...(scratch that). Anything! I feel for the Summoners, and it's affecting what FF should be about.

Should Summoner receive equipment with avatar pacts attach to them...? IDK but it's a start of new possibilities. Throw in a crown with the skill ability to call Neo-Bahamut (in no way he's related to the normal Bahamut). Smns around the world rejoice!

I'm willing to bet this was in context of BST.
though, Nirvana99 Getting Cait and Atomos would make me laugh. Or better yet.

99Claustrum - "Meteor"
I don't think SE would do that to BLM with the promised spell. It is either going to be a scroll (probably) or a merit (hopefully not).
Now that said, they didn't say anything about Meteor II...
...more seriously, if they really wanna "fix" Claustrum without adding elemental affinity, all they would have to do is make the hidden affect of dealing 2.5x damage work on magic and bloodpacts when the user is under the aftermath the staff gives... it would be really funny if they did this without telling anyone. Still, I really hope super spells and new super summons aren't tied to the relic staff, although I could understand them being tied to the Mythics somewhat. Of course, I'd hope this would mean they would buff some of the other mythics if they did that, if Nirvana gives Bahamut and Laevateinn gives Meteor II then Yagrush better give an auto-reraise, 100% chance of curing Doom and maybe even give some freaking cure potency depending on if Bahamut is a gimpy 2hour summon and if Laevateinn has elemental affinity yet.

Relics and mythics etc should of course only give aura effects on pets :)
Else someone might end up wanting you in their parties.

I have no comments on this, except to describe how I once suggested it. I wanted phoenix in a staff that only came out as a WS. Different WS for different pacts. Pacts included raisega, regenga, and a dmg one.
I'd prefer if the animations did not interfere with normal avatar usage. In other words this is how i once recommended beating the 45 second timer.

comparing spell abilities to beast jugs availability is like comparing apples to washing machines. beasts are melee DD, our pets are melee DD-with generally crap TP abilities, and every "summon" costs us $, which costs us time to replace. In addition, magic enemies are a problem as magic defense is usually pretty weak on jugs.
While there are some similarities in play style between smn and bst the strengths and weaknesses of both the jobs and the pets are almost diametrically opposed. Smn does quite nicely versus magic enemies and is weak to melee types, bst is the opposite. Beast can only get 1 jug every 5 minutes (base, both jobs can lower the timer some), summoner just needs time to get a cast off. Ready intervals on beast are 2-3 times the length of BP, depending on how well our pet is connecting. beast can heal a pet once in a blue moon, summoners...
Seriously, just not the same. Now, I'm certainly in favor of summoner getting some job tweaks, you do need them, but complaining about how beast has been "favored" (and as a beast I can't agree) is not the right way to go about it. Allowing a gear augment that adds power or new abilities to your gear set is consistent with how the majority of content adds have been tied to Trials, and is in line with the SE commitment to useless time sinks that lack entertainment value, and that's a damn shame since it is unimaginitive, predictible and unfortunately, the most likely scenario.
But maybe you'll get lucky and this is what those Legion points are going to be for...

OMG guys the comment wasn't directed at comparing Smn and bst in that way. It was directed at how easy BST have access to pets compared to smn.
A relatively new player could unlock Bst. Level bst to 30 go to abyssea leech to 99 and go to AH and have access to all jug. ( having done all lvl breaks)
A relatively new smn would have to get fame 1st off. Do fights and for the later avatars complete missions.
You don't have to be on a certain mission to use any jugs on bst .
The Dev release New pets in the update they just go to the AH.
I'm not saying nothing bad about Bst, i have Bst lvled to 99 and i love it. But i love smn a hell of alot more.

If you check the AH on the pets there not cheap at all. You can drop hundreds of thousands in gil just to get 12 pets and items to try and keep em going. Smn all you need is some mp and you can keep pets going for awhile. Bst you only have a pet for just a short amount of time. True you have acess to pets based on level but you need deep pockets to afford most of em.

There already is a ring that summons a Water Spirit in the game, so maybe SE will be expanding on this.

Phoenix Blade RareExclusive
(Great Katana) All Races
Enchantment: "Phoenix"
DMG: 1 Delay: 999
Lv. 10 SMN
<1/1 0:30/[24:00:00, 0:30]>
Calls forth Phoenix who will then cast Arisega in a 10' radius and then vanish for another 24 hours.
Or something equally as useless.

Equipment specific pets is probably the most useless Idea ever for SMN. Because as we now SE it would be like only 10 charges a "staff" and has a droprate of maybe 0.00001% @ Provenance Watcher or something like that. Oh and if you change that Item you lose the avatar *dum dum dummmmm*. Avatar's should stay spells obtainable through quests.
The first and most pressing matter is still to fix the existing Avatars and the BP mechanics anyway.
