View Full Version : Atomos, Cait Sith, Meteor, Spike Flail: still on the way?

When levels 76-99 were announced, Meteor and Spike Flail were mentioned to be in the future for players (revealed in the official Twitter feed, as I recall). So, are we still getting those spells? I think I recall the wording of the Meteor mention being something to the extent of "We think it's time for BLM to learn Meteor!"
Also, Summoners were teased with the addition of Atomos and Cait Sith in the official release stating SE's intentions for all jobs. I think that Atomos and Cait Sith were even elaborated on: Cait Sith would function similarly to Carbuncle, while Atomos would function similarly to Odin. Are these avatars really on the way?
Or were these four spell announcements just gimmicks to get us excited for the future?
I'd like Meteor and Cait Sith at the very least.
I was very sad when I saw the update notes were missing Meteor. At least we got Comet, but it's just not the same!
And as for Cait Sith, I've been waiting years to have another Light based avatar that could follow me around. I love Carbuncle very much, but he's kind of a weakling...

The optimism is refreshing, Alhanelem, but I can't imagine Square Enix saying anything other than "Spike Flail is too powerful, so we went with Absolute Terror instead," and "Meteor is too powerful, so we went with Comet instead."

Wrong development team. That was the previous team, the one that actually listens to us and provides feedback. This one doesn't care.

Getting Alexander and Odin as 2 hours only took them 3 years. Now that they actually plan on giving us a real avatar, I would estimate it to take 5 years at least.
Not to mention they always use avatars to keep people playing, so they should be delayed until about 4 months after next expansion. Just to make sure gullible people stick around and pay.
I remember them saying that blackmage would get Comet 90-95 which they did, and Meteor 95-99. That Cait Sith would be a regular avatar that would follow you around, but Atmos would be 2-hour only.
My thoughts/hopes. I dont want meteor to be a 5% drop from VWNM or Legion or anything like that. I want a Quest again, all the old cool spells were quests, Warps, drain, aspir, tele-ports. dont make it some fetch quest though, make the Blm solo fight someone for it, super Maat style.
As for the avatars I remember once they added VWNM and the CS with the grey Cait Sith, my first thought was to yell at my screen "they better not give me that one instead" I want people to have to finish WotG and fight Cait Sith and Atmos to earn them, just like the rest have been. hope that its not Hey you've completed all of VWNM and have earned all the titles give me 50 Voidstones and 1 mil cruor and I'll let you fight me.

Going to make this concise and just come out and say it.
BLM will learn both Comet and Meteor.
Power...overwhelming...
Camate said Black Mage will get both, but did not say when exactly. We have Comet... its only a matter of time before we get Meteor.

he's just the Messenger though, and dev team changes their minds alot and we just dont get word if something isn't going to happen anymore.
Example, Months ago they passed word to us that the Ah in Port Jeuno would be closing and the jeuno tax would make a come back to help reduce the congestion.
After the lvl cap was bumped up to lvl 95 people complained that War didn't get any new JAs, they then told us the reason behind this was because they were looking at give them something at 95-99. the only thing they got was a ja/WS nerf. not what everyone was expecting.
while I hope they come through on meteor and the avatars (Dont really care about Blu lol) im also not getting my hopes up
Meteor is probably going to be the BLMs 2nd 2 hour that they are adding later.

For Cait Sith I'm guessing you'll have to beat the WotG storyline along with all 3 past nation questlines. Then you'll get a quest where you have to farm up a bunch of items to get an NPC to craft another item that may not turn out to be suitable. If not, you have to farm it up again. Then you'll have to face off against an army of Cait Siths in a BCNM that will require 18 people. When you win you'll get an avatar that even though it essentially requires you to be level 99, it will be comparable in power to the avatar you received with your SMN at level 1 for reasons of BALANCE!!
Atomos will be obtainable by completing all wotg missions and nation quests. You will have to farm some relatively common new drop off of past Beastmen. You will then participate in a battle with up to 5 other people against Atomos. Atomos will then be useable during Astral Flow. He will have a low chance to "lure all enemies into an eternal time warp" if that fails however, the effect will be Dispel instead.
It has been determined that Spike Flail would be too powerful for BLU so it will not be implemented. In an unrelated announcement, DRG will be given the ability Call Wyrm on a 1-hour timer. The DRG's Wyvern will be automatically dismissed. The summoned wyrm will appear on the battlefield and use the AOE ability Spike Flail on the DRG's targeted foe then be automatically dismissed.

I doubt they'll have you fight Atmos by itself, only did it for alexander and odin cause they already had them in the game, just need to tweek them alittle. the Atmos and Cait Sith fight will probly be the same as it was in the mission, but with them being stronger since the cap is now 99.
Atmos in the BC Didn't Attack, and only had 2 moves, Soul Vacuum- AoE stat Drain, and Soul Infusion- granted all the drained stats to Cait Sith. As much as I would like to see 2 seperate BCs so I can get awesome day/weather items from both, Atmos doesn't leave much to work with so the BC will probly be the same as the missions fight. unless they want to come up with abunch of new moves and attacks for him to use in the BC just to not have him use when you get him. At the end of the BC you'll get the option of items or Avatar, and it'll be either both or do the fight twice.
as for the Astral FLow move, bet its the same as the BC, he'll do Super stat Drain (stat goes to 1 on the mob, just like in the BC) and then grant them to the summoner or the pty, it'll be AoE or Single target. the Stat will be random but would be drained for awhile. so By Itself not really worth it, but maybe if you had 4 summons use it on the same mob. then you have a chance of 4 of that mobs stats going from uber to 1, unless you unlcuky and get the same stat drained.
Cait Sith would be Level ? Holy, with the regular moves changed up alittle, i can see smn getting the light based AoE Sleep/tp reset, but not the Gaze amnesia and silence

Yup agreed, basically nothing new this year, just cut and paste stuffs - not when they are focusing on relaunching the big fail of 2010 as version 2.0 - same shit with different coloring and slightly altered putrid smell. As for XI - we are getting more ridiculous trials and shitty drop rates on things that takes hours to get a group together - back to where things were, party like it was 2004 again :)

That's because this game is restricted. Whatever you think of XIV it can improve. This game is running on borrowed time.
Legion is just a new form of Einherjar. pay to enter BC, mobs drop gear and points, after you clear all 3 basic chambers you gain access to the next ones. wouldn't be surprised if you lose your Legion win KIs after you enter the super chamber.

Thats assuming SE can do what has never been done before which is LOL at best. With them showing no plans on doing away with CnCrap or improve the payment options that will be IGNs lead in to the next review. Then on top of they will be following other MMOs that have far more going for them. So in short BOTH games are on barrowed time.

Seriously SE has turned the concept of Overpromise and Underdeliver into an art form. No one does it better.
I do think Meteor, Cait Sith and Atomos will appear eventually. Like everything else SE will just drag them out so long that when they are implemented it will feel relieving rather than exciting.

Yeah I actually do like it a lot. Well, except the re-used Penury sound effect. Somehow it's just not that exciting for a level 99 spell, though. At least it's better than Gravity II...

Ill omen: coming next update: new spells and summons will be meritted, you get 20 points to spend on 20 job upgrade merits, each of which requires 5 upgrades to get 100% effect. (Meteor (aoe Comet) will be for BLM, Graviga for RDM, Atomos for SMN, etc.)
2 days later, Graviga will be nerfed because it's too powerfull and changed to only land with a (10+(skill/10))% chance. (SCH aoe Gravity will not, for obvious reasons.)

No, BALANCE is the reason Fenrir only drains MP for half the week. God knows Fenrir needs those MP.
