I don't normally post these kind of things, because I don't like to complain, but when I first beat Shinryu I lost my motivation to play. Now my wife and I have played from 2003 to now, and I felt disappointed. As a result, I left FFXI and tried other MMOs and learned a few things, so I wanted to post some ideas here that I think would spread people out to other areas. As everyone knows, Windurst, Sandy, and Bastok are all basically ghost towns, and I feel it would make the game a little bit better if there was a way to undo that. Now that I am back in FFXI, I don't want to simply sit by and say nothing, so here goes.
1. Link the chat: Make it so that you can see Jeuno chat in the main nations, similar to how you can see it in all parts of Jeuno with the /yell command.
2. Add Abyssea porter NPCs to the 3 main nations, (maybe you allrdy did and i didn't notice.....)
3. Make it worth while to be in the 3 main nations, give some sort of bonus to being in your home nation, such as a 1 CP per hour regen or maybe a nation stat bonus that gets slightly stronger while you wait there IE: Windurst MAB .01 per hour there, Bastok 0.01 Crit strike rating, something like that.
4. Increase the Rank missions to 15 up from 10, The dats are there, just need missions, and make the reward worth while, like a chocobo that has the nation flag on the saddle.
Just some ideas to kick around, people will most likely tl;dr this but that's ok.

Sometimes when you think of an idea, it has a tendency to showball. After I made my above post I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be neat to have a class bonus for hanging out in your jobs home nation, and I came up with some ideas. Now these could be combined into a one icon bonus, but would allow for each class to have something different. (job home nations being, where you mainly do your af) Each would have a level of potency, baised on how long your in your nation, so you couldn't go there for 5 min and get full effect, you would need to be there at least a hour, or something. You wouldn't want to make a easy game, even mroe easy, and they would get over written after time, by being in another nation, unless you did some sort of short quest to lock those certain traits in place. You would go to a npc and lock in the Windurst trates getting the BLM/RNG/THF/SMN bonuses or just one bonus, bout could not mix and match from other nations.
Windurst: BLM/RNG/THF/SMN
BLM Bonus: Occasionally cast a spell at zero MP cost
RNG Occasionally finds RNG unque items with scavage
THF Occasionally finds THF unque items when stealing
SMN: Open to ideas
San d'Oria:RDM/WHM/PLD/DRG
RDM: Ocasionally instant casts a spell
WHM:When healing a target, ocasionally heals a second target for a equal amount
PLD: Ocasionally absorbs damage and converts to health/mana/tp (randomized)
DRG:Open to ideas
Bastok: NIN/WAR/BRD/MNK
NIN
WAR
BRD
MNK
Jeuno BST/SCH/DNC (DNC and SCH are obviously not from Jeuno)
BST
SCH
DNC
Aht Urhgan PUP/COR/BLU
PUP:Ocasionally grants additonal manuvers
COR:
BLU:
Obviously they need work, and I don't have ideas for all the jobs, but I think it might be fun, and it could be like a signet type icon that would not just dissapear when yo udie, but would be subject to a sort of time decay.

Just leave a 2nd screen open to this page and go do anything you want while waiting for the shout you need.

never really understood the whole sit around waiting for a shout for what you want to do thing....seems too counter-productive. Take a more proactive stance if you REALLY want something done---form your own group, prefereably with people you know first, then shout for pickups to fill in slots if necessary. Or who knows... you may find with some jobs you can actually SOLO or DUO things.
So much of this game is now solo or low-man content now it's just absurd. With level 99 jobs, only a small set of things actually require a full party/alliance setup (in contrast to the grand scheme of things).

The point is to spread people out, I understand its nice to just glance over at your 2nd screen and watch shouts. What bums me out is that you go into Windurst, and its empty...It would be nice if people woudl hang out in the 3 main nations, at least a little bit.

I don't really see why "hanging out" should be beneficial at all. All it promotes is have people afk more. There's nothing to do in those towns that would make it worthwhile, just give a bonus to people standing around longer. People shouldn't be in any cities at all, ideally they should be out doing things. Cities are just places to afk in.
Not to say I don't agree with some of suggestions, particularly #1 and #4. Just the general idea of staying in any city much is kinda pointless to me. Even if more people afk'd there, it would still be a ghost town. Unless you introduce actual gaming content in the cities, that won't change either.

WHY? It`s an action game, not a sit around, do nothing and shoot the breeze with other people also doing nothing game.
If you want to read about groups forming for specific reasons great, if you want to chew the fat join a social LS.

I think your missing what I was trying to do here, its a MMORPG, and there are some people that care a little bit about the "rpg" part of the game, and before you say it, yes there are some of us that are interested in the rpg/story-line aspect of the game and would like to see more "people" in the main towns. Yeah I know you can be lazy and open a second screen, yeah I know you can join a social ls, ect. This is not about making some pointless argument, these are my ideas, if you like them fine, if your just gonna try to shut them down, then go somewhere else. People are going to afk for long periods of time anyway, thats what they do, thatswhat they have allways done. I know of a few people that don't log off unless they are forced too, they may not be there (afk) but they are always logged in, there is nothing wrong with some sort of bonus for hanging out in your own nation or afking there. It moves people around. There is tons of lag in Jeuno, because its a hot spot, if there are less people always in jeuno, then there is less lag in that area, that's kinda a given. I know most people hate server merges, but it allows you to meet great people. Reduce the lag over all on a server, and you can do further merges, and allow to meet more people, and SE can save money on costs for running servers. Yeah I am sure I'll get flack for saying that but tbh idc. My birth server doesn't even exist anymore.
