View Full Version : Ninjutsu needs an adjustment to make it stronger especially vs strong mobs.

Even with a good ninjutsu setup NIN has a hard time doing much damage using ninjutsu. VS higher end mobs it is almost totally worthless for damage. With the loss of tp gain, the cost, it's just not worth it unless you want to just do a little damage while standing outside away from the mob a little bit. The problem I see is lack of gear, and low base damage so when you fight these stronger mobs you can't do much damage at all. Even vs normal mobs the damage isn't strong enough to make it worth while.

Or, we could just not nuke stuff, so good ninjas don't have to carry around even more gear. My useful gear already takes up 70 spaces and I only use universal tools.
What you should do, is go get useful TP/WS/MDT/DT/Evasion gear, notice how you have like 10 spaces left, and then realize nuking is lame and not want to carry around gear for it.

but its kool to nuke like old school FF ninjas
Our self-buffs and enfeebles could probably use some tweaking. But the elemental wheel? Naw. Leave the nuking to BLMs.

Ninja IMO(to each their own) is kinda okay as it is. With a good sub job, Ninja can survive pretty much on his/her own and even more with support. FFXI is still a MMO and the game encourages to play with others. This thread is pretty much aimed to ppl who just want to go solo so I don't think ninja/ ninjutsu need more buffs or to be stronger.
Be realist and not just idealist, it'll just make ninja way over powered. A good ninja has the right gear, equipment and skills to play the game right! Asking for adjustment is crazy talk!

I'm on the fence here... Speaking from personal experience, in a party situation, the elemental wheel is laughable and just a waste of inventory space. However, it does have merit in other places. A good example of this would be the Mammet fight. I've never leveled mine higher than subjob status and don't really care to, so my opinion is limited to what I know of it, but I would agree that EW Ninjitsu would probably be better with more of a kick.

Sure it would be great to have better damage for ninjutsu, just like better throwing options. As it stands now, and would probably stand after SE tooled with ninjutsu, tp/ws would still kick the crap out of spinning the wheel (or throwing shurikens). As Zeo said, let the blm's take care of the nuking.

Ninja could be adjusted to use martial arts like Monk, idk. Interesting enough, I studied early Feudal Japanese history/folklore, a tiny bit of Chinese and war methods shared between the two countries before the Tang Dynasty went into ruins.
The elemental wheel was intended for enfeebling purposes I suppose. I don't think it needs more adjustment, just more exposition on proper execution by a true in-game Ninja who plays it well as a main. The only way to get full benefit from a job is if you dedicate your self with that job and not half-ass it like some ppl do when leveling all the jobs just to get through game content-but I digress, NVM that.
I need to affirm but the most elemental Ninjutsu casts make the enemy weaker to a certain element plus with the inclusion of enfeebles like poison, etc. With all these goodies the Ninja has, it's foolish to just say nin was intended to tank while it can do many other stuff. The mojo hasn't left the role, players just suck, IMO.

Yes, people who play ninja suck for not nuking things even though it lowers your damage and hate significantly. Or, it could be that you're just bad at the job and have no idea what you're doing, and want to impose your vision of what the job should be onto what the job actually IS.
Ninja could be adjusted to use martial arts
Knowing what the martial arts trait does would probably help you out too, it reduces delay when using H2H. Which has nothing to do with katanas or NIN. Using H2H will never be better then katanas for NIN nor should it ever be. H2h is for MNK and PUP.
The only way to get full benefit from a job is if you dedicate your self with that job and not half-ass it
Maybe you should follow your own advise and learn NIN.

This looks like a direct attack. Don't expect me to give your post any merit.
I'm in protest to buffing up Ninjutsu, learn your own job, don't tell me what to learn if I'm not leveling it. It's good enough as my subjob, I know what I need. You're lv.99 Nin and still you need to learn no matter how long you been playing.

I agree with Wish12oz, Ninja nuking was never meant to be anywhere decent. It was supposed to be an enfeebling effect to make the BLMs nuke a little harder, that's it.

In most cases, yeah, it's not even worth mentioning. I only do it because it amuses me and i enjoy pushing the weakpoints of jobs to their limits. If I was asked to go do something real, I would just go bard anyway. But for pure fun, NIN nuking is hilariously fun in random Abyssea exp parties. Mostly since you can 1-shot mobs with futae.
