Hi,

So i noticed this on my EU Square-Enix Account,

For 1 character:

-FFXI : 12,95€ / Month

-FFXIV : 9,99€ / Month

So, the new game is cheaper than the old?
At least I hope SE will continue to work on FFXI new content like their do for FFXIV then...

And what about the "Special price" for people that playing FFXI and FFXIV?
I dont see any "Spécial price" on my Square-Enix account. :(

They need money. Rough economic times and all. $500 dollar lunches don't grow on trees. You understand.

I won't bother with 14 anyway for now.

Players with both an active FINAL FANTASY XI service account and an active FINAL FANTASY XIV service account will be able to discount their FINAL FANTASY XI monthly service fees from $12.95 to $7.00 for up to three months.
(Notice that SE added the "For up to three months" recently, or i missed something, ill find proof of this.)
By the way about price i love to see 1$ = 1€, EU peoples are always fucked

I always paid the 12,95€ (+1€ Per mule) but ok was only for 3 months not a big deal but FFXIV cheaper than FFXI is hard to understand usualy an old MMORPG come cheaper or even free to play when a new one coming out, so i can understand FFXI price can be the same as FFXIV but more expensive?!

Actually FFXIV is about the same price as the reduce (discounted) price as ffxi. So after the discount 14 will be more expensive.
12.95 includes 1 character on ffxi
9.99 does not include any characters and well since 1 character is required it goes up.
3.00 The cost of a character
9.99 +3.00 = 12.99 so technically at the discounted price ffxiv is more expensive by a tad, after the discount it will be a couple bucks more.
For now that includes your 2 retainers.
In the future though retainers will be $1 each (will the 1st one be free?).
After the discount ffxiv with 2 retainers if 1st is free will be 11.99 +3 +1=15.99 or about 3.05 more.
There is no savings going with ffxiv in any of these cases.

They are being kinda disrespectful with the prices for FFXIV, whats the point sayign the game costs 9.99 when you can't play without paying the extra for the character (and more for the retained/ah crap systems)lol It's like a car hire firm having an advert saying cheapest chr hire prices ever! then a little * at the bottom with extra £50 for each tyre.

They got in trouble the first time disrespecting their prospective playerbase and now they are doing it again.

I dont see any "Spécial price" on my Square-Enix account. :(They discontinued that. The only thing you get is the fact that you're spending more money, and discoutn will not offset the fact that you are already spending more money in an attempt to save money.

The $9.99 rate is only for between now and the revamped version of the game being released around the end of 2012. When FFXIV 2.0 comes out (with the redone server and graphics engines and revamped areas that aren't copypasta'd anymore), the price will (most likely) return to $12.99/mo plus any additional character/retainer costs.

They discontinued that. No, they didn't, but it's only a temporary discount. They will check your account once in the middle of each month from now to april (4 checks), and if both subscriptions are active, the FFXI sub price will be discounted for the next month, up to 3 times total.

The original announcement about the discount on FFXI for players of both FFXI and FFXIV was worded and laid out somewhat poorly. It made me think that the discount would be available indefinitely for anyone that got it started by the end of January 2011.

However, in November 2010, they announced an extension to the discount period to March 2011 (two months later) because at the time, FFXIV free trial play had been extended by about two months. That extension announcement made it much more clear that the entire discount program would end at the end of March 2011. It was not the end of signing up for it, it was the end of all of it. Even if they had gone ahead at that time and started charging subscription fees for FFXIV, the discount to FFXI would have never been more than 3 months.

Of course, since that time, FFXIV has been free trial play all the way, and no one has ever gotten the FFXI discount at all. That free trial play is only just ending this week. The original announcement has been greatly revised and made much more clear that no one will get more than three months of discounted play on a single FFXI account. They had to revise it some because of their transfer of FFXI Billing to the SE account management system which has made it such that FFXI doesn't bill on a calendar month basis any more except for the hold outs that haven't transferred yet pending the final billing option they have promissed for recurring direct credit card billing.

I would also tend to guess that accounts that have not transfered yet will likely not be eligible for the discount in January. Since I pretty much expect that final billing option will show up within the next few days, such untransferred accounts will likely be forced to transfer or the account will be cancelled at the end of January. But since they have set up four check dates, those accounts can still get the three discounts provided they meet all the other requirements. They just need to complete the transfer before the February check date (February 12).

I rather wish they would add the 90 and 180 day subscription period options to FFXI, but I suppose it would complicate the discount promotion. Hopefully it happens after everyone is required to switch to an SE account, as I imagine that's preventing it.
