View Full Version : [1049]New Weapon Skills Unusable and/or Unmeritable?

So wasn't it every job with native skill, would have access to the meritable weapon skill? Were these not supposed to all be about acessibility? Warrior has nine(9) wapons skills they can merit, so why were other jobs blantly left out?
For example. Ninja has a great katana cap of 368 at level 99, but has no access to tachi: shoha. Samurai and ninja both have the same native 378 sword. Samurai, who has extremely low sword choises for swords gets access to Requiescat. Whereas ninja, to has conciderably more available, dose not.
Have they given any resoning to this?

I was wondering this about Shoha as well. The only "good" GK WS NIN ever got was "Jinpu," for what it's worth anyway.

I cant speak for all of the combinations that were left out, however the two you just gave are of SAM getting something good others dont get. (in this case sword when ninja deserves it too and not sharing a BA ws) That should answer your question right there. FFSAM 4 life.
NIN can have Tachi: Shoha when SAM can equip katanas

NIN can have Tachi: Shoha when SAM can equip katanasShoha's not the point, it's just the most blantant example. Everything that was left out needs to be looked at and answered for.

I was a little perplexed about nin not getting the great katana one. Now i know sam gets (and deserves) all of the great katana ws's, but considering nin does get a handful of gkat's (and ws's) to use, and has a native skill above the required level it would have made sense to let them have it.
Ninja is frowned upon by Samurai. Therefore, I don't know.

Honestly all WS's should follow "if you have the skill, then you have the WS". Would greatly even things out.

This is what it is based on. Only these jobs are allowed to use it, even if they are able to acheive the skill at a later level or with items. It is no different than other weapon skills that are exclusive to one or more jobs. Any job with hand to hand is high enough now to use Asuran, but they cannot. NIN was not applied to the GK WS because their skill is too low to reach the requisite skill at level 96, which is why they chose not to include the job on it.
The point about skills and levels is basically moot anyway. Specific jobs are listed for each weapon skill. If you aren't one of those jobs, you can't use it, and that's all there is to it.
Honestly all WS's should follow "if you have the skill, then you have the WS". Would greatly even things out. No, it wouldn't. Different jobs deserve to have WS that other jobs can't, it makes their use of a weapon unique from other jobs. Every PUP out there would rage if MNK could suddenly use Stringing Pummel. Hexa Strike was purpose-made for white mage. Even with this new WS, WHMs who ever use a club at all would rage if some other job got to use their exclusive toy (It's bad enough that the new club WS is basically "hexa for non-WHMs").
Who knows, they might change how it works in the future (I doubt it), but frankly I don't see any reason to change it.

That be true. Also I'm going to say this before anyone else: oh yeah well why doesn't SAM get access to Gandiva when they do with Yoichinoyumi!? Because you know it's coming. Again. And that discussion will be had, again. And it will go no where. Again.

I still think skill @96 shouldn't matter if you can reach it later.

ODD prolly wouldn't work for melee attacks from the ranged WS anyways, may as well just do the WoE one.
