View Full Version : Fun little toys for FFXI

Ever had an Item, Emote, Quest you really wanted implemented to the game? Now is your chance to share those ideas. The idea of this thread is to create a place where forum members can suggest ideas of fun little trinkets or quests that would bring some fun to FFXI.

Ground Rules:
Do not post anything about Jobs, not enhancements not nerfs, it has no place here take it somewhere else.

Do not post anything on combat ready (By that I mean anything you would take to a party/abyssea/VW etc.) weapons or weaponskills past, future or made up, it seems to be a very touchy subject and best left out.

Do not post anything about current content, No XX Event needs fixing or drop rate on XX is too low, these are supposed to be ideas for things not already made.

Like above do not post anything on upcoming content positive or negative, if its been announced its likely already got some blueprints, post in another thread.

Finally, do not respond negatively to a post or idea without actual constructive advice, no "your idea is stupid no one will like that" I also do not want to see "Why are you suggesting such things when SE needs to take time to fix XX or YY" That is not for you to decide let the mods and devs make that choice.

I consider any post breaking the above a troll post and should be ignored, I encourage others to do the same.

It is my sincerest hope this thread not become a war like so many others, that the mods will read it without fear of feeling like they walked into a room filled with screaming children. The purpose is for fun and preferably items/quests/abilities etc. that have no combat function and so will not be dragged into Elitist/VW/Abyssea discussion. Also be aware that the more detailed the idea is the less likely it will appear in all or in part in the game. (I understand this is due to legal reasons, or to prevent disappointing the creator)

That said I thought id share a few, (of my large list) to give an idea of what I mean.

These items and for that matter anything I suggest in the future I hope to be available to everyone without the catch of R/X craft only, a CD preorder, Vanafest, Bonanza and so on, even if the conditions are something that can not be done over night I would also hope they are not multi-month investments.

Tonberry Costume - As many players are aware the game has lots of costumes to wear, including a goblin obtained from Bastok [S] questing. But, in all these years of FFXI and Final Fantasy as a whole who better then the lovable Tonberry to spend time as while waiting for an LS event or shout.

Avatar Statue - With Ark Angels, Shadow Lord, Odin, Ground Kings and many others to collect, (and I can only theorize that Bahamut/Promathia/Shinryu, ToAU Kings/Beasts and Lady Lillith, will eventually make an appearance) why not make a Statue featuring our favorite Celestrial and Terrestrial friends. Maybe as a fun bonus they can hover and glow like the Summoner Avatars or perhaps one statue with the 8 main avatars that change to match with the day of the week (maybe Diabolos can appear at night during new moons).

Cactuar - FFXI is known for making references to past FF games, (and future ones now that XIII and XIV are released, one of the perks of an updating game I suppose) A few examples such as Eyes on Me the blue magic move and Hedgehog Pies. However, one classic FF character has yet to make a true appearance, Cactuar, not as the game shows them but in classic form. A firework, a furnishing or a costume perhaps rather then a monster since a monster may not quite fit in. (then again Voidwatch is known for alternate appearances for normal mobs, would be fun to fight Jumbo Cactuar somewhere. hint* hint*)

Since the level caps happened, I always thought it would be cool to have furnishings similar to the action figures / statues you could get of monsters, but have it be of your jobs in all their Artifact Armor glory.

All you would have to do is get the 5 regular quality AF items for each stage (Artifact, Relic, Empyrean), and pose in each matching set for some NPC building the furnishing for you. Pet jobs could have their pet (or favorite form) included in the design. Special weapons could be installed on them if you were to have them or acquire them later on.

These would be small, like the Statues. Perhaps they could take up a 2x2 grid on a tabletop. Unlike the mannequins, you wouldn't be able to pose or dress them.

I've also wanted to see a customizable weapon rack similar to the customization of the mannequins. I know there is the static one from that god awful SAM Armor event. I'm talking about mounting weapons one might've collected over the years, but can't bear to toss.

more show of gear like the wedding dress for male and female players
and also more costumes besides the bat and all that funny stuff the tomberry idea is cool

I know it won't happen due to it's difficulty but, I would love to see Gear be more accessorized. For Example: Scarfs, capes, sheathes, etc.

Actually, on the note of more variety of equipment, my brother had suggested if a tonberry costume was not possible that a player worn Tonberry cloak, and possibly beastman head piece would be fun. Imagine a Galka wearing a tonberry coat :D (Provided I certainly would not be opposed to both)

The other idea along those lines is a set of job specific comedic gear, now i have not worked out ideas for all jobs but, some of the ones I did think of are:

WAR - Lion cloak, like the ones often seen worn by "barbarians"
SAM - Either the ronin style outfit worn by Samurai like Kenshin in Samurai X or a Kabuki suit including a long white wig and clogs. Hard time deciding.
NIN - An orange jump suit, because after all what is more of a joke then a ninja in orange?
BRD - Either a conductors outfit complete with coat tails, or the type of outfit opera singers wear. (I was told they are different but, honestly they look the same to me)
RDM - Onion Knights outfit from Dissidia, this is mostly because he acts like a RDM and has an amuzing outfit

Quick side note* (In that same line cosplay outfits from famous characters of particular jobs would be fun, Vivi for BLM complete with oversize gloves, Tifa/Snow for MNK, Eiko for SMN and so on, there would need to be gender kinks to be worked out, however)

DRK - Dracula cloak/outfit (Imagine doing DRK emote in a Dracula costume)
DNC - Now, I do not know what its called but, the hats with red poms or corks and the colorful frilly shirts for males and the colorful dresses for females, may need to be fitted to look more appropriate (Perhaps as an added bonus maracas or fans as weapons)

Also, since I am posting again, I just wanted to point that yes some ideas may be more of a stretch then others but, I do not see any harm in suggesting them anyway. (Not like the devs will respond saying NO AWEFUL IDEA) Remember, while a suggested idea may not be made, Devs can not consider idea not suggested.

Take a look at the Ninja relic armor.

I'd like to see one of their card mini games in game instead of trying to charge for it. Possibly create a brand new card game for FFXI. It doesn't have to be tried and true. I actually prefer something new that's tied to FFXI. I think this could be one of the better additions in recent years to the game if they did it and would be a lot of fun. Just leave the eff'n economy out of it so it doesn't turn into a fricking rich man's game. But also there should be some bonus rewards just for fun. Like for example, win new costumes. Or a fun and or useful low level item. Perhaps winning gets you new and improved cards to play.

If the game could be convenient to play(blow time waiting for PT for example) and addictive fun, you don't really need a lot of rewards or any at all. This ain't the usual PVP stuff I'm talking about here. If it's going to end up like everything else then sure it'll fail. But make it convenient to play(ideally anywhere at anytime but if it must be restricted to a "game table" like those game tables are then start with every zone in Jeuno and expand it to all towns) and it'll prosper and we can have some more fun in game and unwind when we're not doing the usual grinding of something.

You are correct but, I had more of a Naruto look in mind which is why I made the suggestion even with Ninja relic in existence. Would not be the first time FFXI alluded to Naruto.

Aarahs

Actually it would. The ninja emote is from the legend of Jiraiya the Gallant. Just because Naruto did the same doesn't mean that's where SE got the idea. Anyways, the only place you see ninja dressed in black is the theater. Real ninja dressed as whatever 'class' they were blending in with.

It would be nice to have armor be able to be set for visual while wearing another for the stats. More visually pleasing.

Ooh, I would love to see more of these! I love event gear and fireworks and such.

I would like... interact-able furnishings. It'll probably never happen, but I'd love to be able to sit down at a desk or a table.

I would like the option to personalize the mog-house more! Change the walls, for example, or a new rug.

Giftable, growable flowers! It's possible to grow a plant to it's glowy-ready-to-harvest stage and freeze it there.. wouldn't it be nice if you could do that and then gift those to other players?

On topic of costumes: I would love it if they added a barbershop and we were able to change our character's hair and potentially some features, like earrings, tattoos, and whatnot. It'd also be pretty cool if we had a vanity gear slot -- gear that we 'wear' only for show. I could run around in my old igqira weskit still :D!

^^; most of this probably can't happen because of some technical reason, but I think they'd be nice.

Ooohh! I agree with Ms. Aquilla here!

Also, expanding a bit of what she was talking about. I'd really like us to be able to physically expand our mog house- you know? So we can have more room for furnishings.
Or maybe update gardening so it looks like an actual garden instead of flowerpots? Or simply just let us customize the mog house a bit- be able to change the rug or the walls and floors... things like that.

But hands down, I'd love some vanity gear (that's different for each race, hopefully!!) and barber shops. It always made me a little sad that only NPC's got to have long hair or really cool hair styles ~_~. D= As girly as that sounds....
I think it would help breathe some new life into the game as well as some individuality. ^_^

I'd also like to see some more minigames in the cities! You could win some prizes or just gil or something.
I think it was summerfest that had that little shooting minigame where you shot the goblins but not the faries. I think they should have more things like that.

Lastly, and while we're on the topic of minigames... Perhaps they can somehow incorporate Tetra Master into FFXI? I really liked' FFIX's version of the game, it was a lot easier to follow when compared to FFVIII's because the rules didn't change. In any case, they could even have a tournament where the winner gets a special trophy. Maybe they could combine the two! For example, not have different rules in different regions so that the rules would be the same everywhere (a la FF9) but people could maybe then transform cards into items like you could in FF8.

I'd also wish that they would bring back Ballista. Back in the day man, it was a lot of fun. Yes, I know it was imbalanced and the like, but bla bla bla- it was fun for me.

Ah... really, to the thread starter- thanks for starting this tread! ^^ Finally something happy to post about even if it is just people throwing ideas about! ^^

Someone in my LS suggested something I found interesting and I felt it was worth sharing.

So, imagine being out in the field farm/crafting with r/x items or just out killing monsters. Your inventory is almost full but everything you are carrying is stuff you want to save for a shop. You remember you have an item with 1/1 charge XX recharge with Call Shop. You use the item and a friendly moogle appears and offers you Gil for your items at your home nations rate.

This item would be sell only, and will not connect to the AH or any form of storage (though a nomad moogle in the field would be cool, in case you forget that one item in MH). The charges would be spaced out enough so its more of an emergency use type thing, or to make one farm trip for the day last longer. It was a neat idea and I know there are times I wish I had something like that.

I'd like to be able to crawl onto my mog bed after a long day's adventure and /rest. Lay there, hands under my head, and just daydream.

Costume slots wouldn't just be decorative either.. they'd do away with most blinking too! No more missing skillchain damage because you swapped back into your TP set too soon AND you are looking good doing it!

Town pets would be nice too. Automatons can stay as they are, with the others running around with a small carbuncle, carrie or wyvern :D (Not limited to jobs, anyone could have a particular pet out.)

So, I was cleaning my Mog House today, and noticed a lot of items that would make good storage related ideas. (I understand many of these are mentioned in other threads but I will restate them just in case)

-AF torques associated with job emotes are not storable with the Porter Moogle under the AF armor slip. (Now I know they are not exactly super hard to get but, neither is AF gear passed a certain level, still seems like a waste to re-obtain it)

-I have an impressive collection of all jobs elemental equipment, x8 of Sachet, Belts, Gorgets, Grips, Obis (I am not even including my Magian staffs for SMN and BLM) Thing is that is 45 spaces almost 10% of my overall inventory. While it is true that not everything I have is 100% useful it still seems wasteful to toss it. A sachet with occ. absorbs magic and +2 to all stats or, a belt with the same advantages of the individual for all elements at the same time is not that over powered especially since you have to collect them first. On top of which they could just be macroed anyway it is just space filler. Just saying :(

-I have noticed a number of upgrading items laying around, Dynamis currency, Ancient beast coins, WoE Coins, Seals, +2 items, Empyrean Items, various half finished AF+1 items, and now relic +2 items. Now it is reasonable to argue why keep it all if you are not going to use it? Well, first of all the upgraded pieces can in fact be stored for future use, just not the parts. Second, some of those items I do need dynamis currency, +2, some seals, WoE coins and empyrean weapon items but, since many of them are barely started it seems a waste to make a Cadalbog to abyssea stages if all I have for the moment is 5/50 gems. Additionally, other pieces such as Heavy Metal, Alexandrite and so on can be sold if I later choose to abandon the creation of the weapon, looking mostly at Dynamis currency and Heavy metal. It is unwise to trade them in for completion if there isn’t 100% chance of finishing since you can’t retrieve them. Last, It goes back to the point of why toss something useful in the future, imagine having tossed 8 RDM seals over time only to later level it, now flash forward to that seal party 2 hours in 5/8 wishing you had kept them.
The other argument I see against such a request is that one can simply start the trial and trade the items to the box. However, this is not a fix as you must then have the item in question a weapon, armor etc. and those items with trials on them can’t be stored while in progress, the space is still taken.

-I also have crafting items mostly completed products waiting to sell, thing is the prices are low right now, and a wise business person would wait for prices to rise or balance out before entering the market. I know there is not much that can be done for that unless there was somehow a form of guild storage specific to items of your craft, but hey better to get all the ideas out at once then post twice.

-Finally, the classic "Magian Trial weapons" suggestion, so while an all in one staff for M.dmg/avatar/M.acc would be amazing I think the more beneficial option is a Magian storage for 99 variations of the items. (After all if staff got such a bonus it is only fair the other weapons do too, imagine combined BST pet axes O.O) This way Pld PDT sword, Blu MAB swords, War STR or PDT GA, BST pet PDT/EVA axes, and so on can be added as well. Just storing currently unused Magian weapons would reduce total inventory space taken by a nice amount and as an added bonus would not discourage more situational items due to lack of space, perhaps MDT for some jobs. This can also be extended to OaT, or 2-4x weapons perhaps so long as they reach 99 and do not have any form of trial on them. (This is all on the assumption that the Magian trial weapons have finished at 99 and will not get additional treatment)

Just a few of my storage woes I wanted to share, in hopes that perhaps others feel the same.

Proof-read 3 times still finding errors XD

During the misc. events that happen depending on the time of year, we should get temporary items whenever we zone into an area affected by the zone. No, not potions... we should get stuff like fireworks and cotton candy!

I think this would make those special events just that much more special.

During the Starlight Celebration my moogle forced sugar laden food on me every time I visited my home city MogHouse. Things like candy rings and candy canes and rolled chocolate. He definitely contributed to my daily caloric intake...

I wish we had an option to let our NPC Fellow "Move in" with you. He/she would be standing in your mog house whenever you enter, and would act like a rendezvous point.

NPC Fellows could really use improvements, but that's a convo for another thread. If my NPC was in front of me more often, I would definitely spend more time leveling her.

1: bigger MH or multiple rooms

2: To be able to purchase multiple version of the same race mannequin's "I'm a galka, and it sucks seeing my gear on a taru"

Edit:what would be even cooler is that you could load a whole gear set onto a mannequin. That way when you swap out gear on jobs it could be a quick 1/2 out the door kind of thing. For instance you swap out jobs, go to a bare mannequin unload your current gear onto it. And than go to a second Mannequin and take your other set off it.

3: I'd always wanted a emote that lets me pull out a pipe and smoke a few puffs off it.

4: Beer/malted drink options go go -dt

5: I always had this idea that it would be cool if a party leader had an option to set up a camp fire that would give off + stat enhancements when near it. Maybe even decrease weakness recovery time when in range of it. You could set it up so it's customize by what the player has put into it. Melee camps could have + att bonuses and Mage camps could have MP recovery. Perhaps maybe you could have it base off the party leaders JT's even. Lot's of possibilities.

Small suggestion and something that has always made me confused.

We've traversed the world of Vana'diel, in that time we've come across flags given to us for our hard work. But at the end of the day. We have only five spaces to hang up wall features. Leaving us to choose between our hanging our flags or other wall hangings. IE: Panetiere, Marriege Cert, etc.

The easiest fix would to be allow us to place items on the walls around our door and our fireplaces, furnances, and waterfalls.

Quested fighting styles.

For aesthetic purposes only, you do not receive stat bonuses, or maybe you do.

For example, a monk sporting a 'no guard' stance with hands raised high and wide.
Ninjas and thieves taking a lower, crouched stance to exemplify their sneaky nature.
Black mages readying their spells with one hand instead of the orthodox two, or actually utilizing their staff to channel.
Etc.

Still funny all the same, in fact he gets credit for both the wearable Tonberry Coat and the Avatar Statue ideas as well.

I love that idea. It probably shouldn't effect stats - more like the Job Specific emotes. It could, however, be tied to a piece of JSE which gave stats related to the visual style. Using your MNK example, it might be a neckpiece that gave: Counter -20, Attack +10, STR +10, Reduces Weapon Delay. Or NIN: Emnity -20, Attack -20, Evasion +10, AGI +10

I would love different stances just for aesthetic purposes~!

Maybe could like a few of them to existing abilities like: Hasso, Seigan, Berserk, Last Resort, Innin, Yonin and so on.
However, make it so that the JA that was activated last you get the stance from that, or it's the very 1st 1 that you activated and is overwritten only when it wears.

24 hour 2hr rings.

Marauder's Ring
Level 99, All jobs
Enchantment: Mighty Strikes

Pugilist's Ring
Level 99, All jobs
Enchantment: Hundred Fists

Thaumaturge's Ring
Level 99, All jobs
Enchantment: Manafont

Granted, some 2hrs are useless for other jobs like Astral Flow and Soul Voice, but some punishing combinations are certainly available.

A warrior with Mighty Strikes active and Hundred Fist enchantment or Meikyo Shisui enchantment.

Black Mage with Manafont active and a Chainspell enchantment.

I can smell the death.

24 hour 2hr rings.

Great idea, but I don't think it fits the whole "fun little toy" category.

I think they should probably be Synergy based, and require having someone put in 10 merits as a 99 version of the job or something like that for part of the requirements. I think the biggest issue with having it be as a ring is that Goldsmithing is disproportionately the money making craft due to being one of the only ones that still makes gear people wear.

And I think that Manafont/Chainspell combos between Red Mage and Black Mage will be very popular, as would a the WAR and SAM 2hours. Ninja's 2hour would be very valuable as well depending on the cooldown on using the rings when you first equip them. I think the least popular 2hours would be job specific ones like SMN, BLU, as well as ones that are in avoidable situations that could be dealt with anyways and don't have very much real utility, like Benediction.

started reading this thread i was surprised it took till the 3rd page for this to be brought up.

*New fighting stances would be awesome like best update in a while type! lol
make like 2-4 different stance per weapon category

*can even take this chance to add new swing animations<since we do that SOO much>..and before someone says there is only so many ways to swing a sword, you can easily see different swings between races so that point is flawed<friend had used that argument against me before!>

*New Casting animations as well would be cool. Magic casting feels more tricky since they are tied to specific magic categories but, if someone creative can work on it it would be nice, and more to the point would be nice if weapons didn't depop during a casting animation as well(you know like when you are engaged).

*JA definitely would be a great place to add variety too. Just adding 2-3 per race would add worlds of differences<or to be more extravagant adding 2-3 per job per race..tho i am taking this a bit far lol>. Also like magic animation the weapons sometimes depop as well<but less often not sure if that is me specifically but i noticed it on ps2 xbox and pc where the weapons depop on JA and magic animations>

**sry if some of this was covered already just wanted to put in my 2cents.

Allowing Adventure Fellows to mimic more than just the /bow emote xDDD
Wouldn't even have to be all of them, but /wave /panic /cry /cheer would be pretty fun.
