So what do you use and what's the logic behind it.
Right now I switch it up based on what I'm doing. I'll probably edit this later as I get more time but I wanted an ATMA thread.
I use mostly
DG/RR/ and the third really depends on what I'm doing. A lot of the time I use MC
Ducal Guard
Razed Runes
Mounted Champion
do me a favour people please type out what the atmas are called so people reading have an idea what they are looking for on FFXIclopedia.org :)
Now I will say that I do not have any of the other -pdt atmas and I WILL be getting those
with my setup right now
2x-10%pdt axes
1x-2% ptd necklace
( need the helm that has -10%pdt )
and then I use Ducal Guard which @ 50% or below gives me -72% dmg taken. People claim there is a cap and the good news for us is there is not a -pdt cap.
With the right setup you can take 0% dmg and almost no magical dmg. I will post that setup later when i dig through my notes :)
I'm sure someone will beat me to the punch.
Anwig Salade, Shepherd's Chain, Ferine Quijotes +1/2
Atma of the Ducal Guard
Atma of the Winged Gloom
100% -pdt on pet
100% -mdt on pet
30/tic slip damage
There is no cap on either.
its rarely useful.

guess it depends on what you are doing. Ducal guard really on a factor when you pets under 50% health. So this could be useful in solo situations but if i was with a group i wouldnt be using it or Mounted Champion, i'd be using DD atmas raised run, voracious violent, Gnarled horn, Apoc, alpha omega, Stout arm, harvester, etc etc. So situation and pet would matter in atma choice. Do i want evasion well i'd use Dipper and probably something like Siren Shadow, RR, and either another kind of tank atma or dd atma depending on what i'm fighting.
If i'm out just fighting regular mobs by myself for things like farming or what not i'd just go DD setup, if i'm soling NMs then more tank based, PDT, Evasion, etc.

It really depends, if your using Dipper I would go for
Cloak and dagger
Razed Ruin
Mounted Champion
2 pet eva axes.
With this setup almost nothing will hurt dipper except magic attacks.
If your using NN then I would go
Razed Ruin
Mounted Champion
Ducal Guard
2 Pet -dmg axes.
NN has alot of HP and Ducal Guard really shines with her imo.
I don't list alot of other gear because not everyone has the time/means to get them. If you don't have +eva or -dmg axes then your really not trying imo >.>
When I use bst (I use it alot for farming seals in abyssea) I almost always use dipper for NM's and NN for everything else since dippers to expensive to be running around meriting with.
Edit: Just wanted to say Hi and First post for me!
BST has a lot of options for atma.
I find the most use out of Razed Ruins. Especially in Heroes zones, if you don't have Raged Ruins, your damage is going to be very poor, and the fight is going to take a LONG time. I think our pets get alot more out of this than players do. Pet pdif is significantly higher than players (4.2 cap vs 2.0 or 3.15 for crit on players). I also suspect the crit bonus to pdif might be higher for our pets. By stacking attack+ atma and Razed ruins, I was hitting around 650 for max crits from a level 90 pet (broncha). I expect max possible to be around 700/hit in abyssea using RR (Sanguine Scythe would take this higher though) if you can cap pdif on pet w/ attack+ gear/atma.
Its very hard to say what best DD combos for bst atma would be. This is where you see a big contrast between you and your pet. This is where further pet testing will be very helpful. Pet Pdif is higher on pets than players, you can get much higher melee damage from them. However, its much harder to cap pdif on bst pets on similar or higher level mobs.
If you have pet attack+ axes and stack the best attack + atma w/ Razed Ruins you might be able to get close. However, pets can't get much haste (Anwig or spurrer's and atma only maxing at perhaps 25~30% if using all haste atma). Double and Triple attack will probably be much more helpful than haste atma for a pet. I'm pretty sure its the best way to increase the number of hits you do.
For a player pdif can be capped with food and temp items in abyssea. For pet, neither of these are options.
So Its a bit of a question mark for DD atma for bst. If you have a high crit rate, you can probably do around 700~ 1000 damage/attack round between pet and master if you are trying to dd.
Voracous Violet is probably the next choice with a great option with the STR+, regain, AND double attack.
The 3rd choice is always the most difficult. Other str/attack + atma are very good, and so are multi attack atma like Apocalypse. There will be some variation from pet. yuly is a thf, merle is a mnk. and you probably want to TP alot more w/ Louise, but the rest should be pretty similar.
Our atma is often determined by what we want on our pet. We often tank on our pets in solo/low man situations.
I don't think the combination including Winged Gloom is very practical in Solo Situations. It can certainly be done, and certainly be effective.. but its going to be expensive, and there is probably a cheaper/equally effective alternative. The only practical application I see for a DG + WG combination is when holding top-tier NM's for brewing in a low man. This combination allows you to hold any for pretty much as long as you like. Adding Mounted Champion just makes it easier and less expensive.
For tanking in most other fights Ducal Guard and Razed Ruins are the staples.
There are several very effective and useful options for the 3rd atma:
Lion (triple attack and 10% more -pdt to complete100% pdt)
Zenith 10% dt for 100% pdt and 80% mdt reduction
Mounted Champin, Vicissitude, or Stronghold for Regen and def/mdef/attack+ depending on which is most important for the fight.
For evasion tanking on Yuly: usually at least one of the following and axes
Siren's Shadow
Cloak And Dagger
I've been toying with the idea of using Gnarled Horn and Roaring laughter with Merle to see how well he tanks this way. That could be alot of fun.

I would recommend VV over Sea daughter easily. Regain is only 2/tic, but you get a huge STR boost and another 10% double attack. Pet tp moves are wondeful useful, but the recast timer is much more of a limitation than tp gain. Also, the slow effect is wretched to our damage. We already cannot stack much haste on pets, adding slow hurts their main source of damage: normal melee.
The lack of razed ruins for damage dealing is... devastating. You and your pet both do much much more damage w/ rr atma. I've no idea what Tsukino is trying to say w/ that quote:
"Why doesn't my RR atma effect my pets?"
I just assume he's trolling in a 1/2 coherent way...
RR boosts bst perhaps more than other jobs. it boosts both main and pet damage. Crit hits seem to boost pet pdif more than 1.0 (which is how much it boosts players, it seems closer to 2.0 for pets). The crit hit rate from RR atma on pet alone will boost most pets up to around 60% crit hit rate. The 30% boost in crit damage stacks w/ the 8% from crit attack bonus that pretty much all 75+ pets have (I haven't confirmed for merle, don't think merle gets it as mnk)

While servers have been down i've been thinking if Glavoid can be solo'd by bst. earthwyrm, dg and idk the 3rd atma i'd use. I know healing Glav is bad, and getting pet off him during tp would be a pain in the butt, so i figured jus roll with it and keep pet on him. I'm thinking it can be done. Ducal guard is such a sweet atma, if dipper can with stand Disgorge... idk jus a thought. What do you guys think?

I just finished up my 50 Glavoid shells right before the servers went down. Go go ukon~ I had a friend bst tank while I was on THF for TH. The Atmas used were DG + Earth Wyrm + Heavens. This resulted in 0 dmg taken from physical attacks and made his 2 hours useless. Also, disgorge usually hit for 0 and gorge damage was highly resisted, usually below 300. The earth resistance on top of the -DT bonuses made Stonega IV and Quake II damage average about 200-500 damage with spikes around 700. All in all glavoid simply could not do enough dmg to the pet to be a threat. However, constantly using heel to take pet off during TP moves, plus the ridiculous amount of SS it seems to get after every single TP move means a solo glavoid would simply take too long. I am not certain you could pull it off in 120 minutes.
Bringing a second DD to kill, as we did, made things go very fast, relatively speaking, getting a kill with 2 or 3 (sometimes a rng friend came to help). We almost never had a curative job like rdm or whm with us. TBH though, I usually necroed the fight on thief dying after 3k Rudra's storm every minute. This wasn't a big deal though because it always gave enough EXP to make the loss non-existent.
If I were going to solo the fight I would drop a DT atma, prob heavens, and replace it with RR. Sure you will take more dmg but we fought it that way prior to getting Earth Worm atma and would use only 5-6 pet foods a fight (zeta). The SS is a really big deal and RR will help break it down. If you dont get it off it will disgorge again and heal, w/o you ever doing dmg to it, and reset SS. Again, I still don't see it being worth it, unless you absolutely don't have anyone to help (which in that case id /sh for "zone boss glavoid kill" and have ppl help that way)

I like RR VV Apoc with Lucky Lulush for parties. 1k-1600 footkicks are fun.
For solo i switch jugs and atmas often to fit what NM i am fighting.

not having razed ruins, or gnarled horn yet, what I use as a BASE Atma set is Voracious Violet, Aquatic Ardor and Mounted Champion. Note that I said base-as in XP party, I vary these widely based on the mob we are targeting if NM hunting and also if I will be meleeing or something. cloak and Dagger get some love, Stout Arm, Despot, even the one that boosts drain/aspir at times. Depending on my role, I may sub in ambition if I need MP or pulling speed. Despot is especially useful when I bst/brd for threnody procs.

I didn't use dipper. I don't use her much for w/e reason. Unless i need large wind resistance. I used Audacious Anna. Tail blow is about 80% or so effective at stunning Glavoid's Stonega IV and Quake II. She is waaay cheaper to make and has more HP =D

I will use SD when I'm using a pet like the eft to spam stun
I got the ferine earring that way, I used eft because I got tired of the magic dmg :)
SD does so i can spam pet tp moves all the time
