I am currently a ninja that wields two double attack weapon (an Enchu +2 and an Enchu +1). Been absent from the game for nearly 7 months and came back December 19. I enjoyed doing the magian trials up to level 90 cause i don't need to ask for help in getting things done with the magian trial. Now when i came back, the trials for 95+ for double attack have ruined this for me. It's either i need to ask for help or pay up huge amount of gils. Thanks alot you bastards, can't think of anything else to say to you guys.
Trial 2936: Silver mirror X200
Next trial: Riftsand X200

umm...these are the final stages of some serious weaponry....did you really expect them to hand them to you on a silver platter? Back when the level cap was 75, the final stages of top gears had some intense requirements for upgrades (Limbus, Dynamis, Salvage, ...you get the picture). Why would you expect anything less getting to level 99 grade gears?

Because progression should be progressive. It's merely the final step on a weapon he has already put effort into. A non-ultimate weapon, by the way. There's no reason for this single stage, and a minor upgrade to boot, to require more effort than all the stages before it combined.
Nothing has been handed to him or any of us ever in the entire history of FFXI. His weapon up to 90 or 95 wasn't handed to him and a reasonably similar trial for the 99 stage wouldn't have been handing him anything either.

umm.... 20 Twilight souls.... 300 resistance credits each.... 6000 credits = Enchu +1
Then, there's 50 D. Shades, 300 Dom. Notes each for 15000 notes = Enchu +2
Yeah... I'd say that's a gimme...not so much as maybe 15 and 40 Geodes, but....like geodes falling while you do other stuff, you could have been collecting resistance credits and dominion notes as you've been doing aby stuff, so there may not have really been any time specifically spent to get these upgrades unless you haven't been doing Bastion/Ops and Dom. Pages. I'm sittting on over 120k of each myself...and I really don't have any plans for spending them as of yet.
Was a nice break after all the killing you had to do to get to that point in the line (2800 kills on normal mobs and 39 NM killls). Same with the elemental lines. Up until then, it was very tedious work. Now, it's back to what it was before those last two stages...mindless, repetitive killing for minor advancement in the weapon's upgrades.
For elemental lines, you now have to get the new Avatarites (not available until this last stage was released, so...you gotta gather them now, versus getting them along the way as before). Mirrors/sand is Voidwatch, which if you weren't already doing Voidwatch and getting the mirrors already, there's stuff you may now want from Voidwatch, so you may soon be getting those drops along the way--unless you aren't interested in Voidwatch, then there may be a problem. Even then, you can always buy from bazaars--so instead of mindles farrming for magian killsor directly for the items to upgrade with, you would be mindlessly farming/gardening/crafting for gil instead....piss in one hand, poop in the other to see which fills up faster. It's still more of the same timesink it was before.....not exactly something new, and should have been expected.
edit:
Oh, and btw... once you break 54 base dmg, you're at a new weapon rank. Haven't seen the stats on the katanas to know if it breaks this for certain in the end, but seen other final weapons that finally cross the threshold into their next rank level....so, it may not be as trivial as it seems.

I' d rather go back to the killing honestly. Farming up geodes and avatarites or counting on there being enough up on the AH at any given time is much more annoying and tedious to me. It's working as intended in SE's mind obviously as it serves to slow down my progress, and that's all they really care about.
You'll disagree I'm sure, but I hate that magian has essentially become about gil now unless you happen to be on one of the weapon skill paths. I should have known that gil would come into play eventually, but it was very refreshing to have an important aspect of the game NOT tied to how much gil we had or the influences of the market. So much for that though. You might like it, but I really don't.

don't like the way the AH/Bazaar has come into play for it myself actually...just stating that is an option if one does't have the patience/desire to hunt for the items. Not sure where you're reading in that I like it.... but, anyway.
My gripe with the system has always been the freaking monotony. Sure... 800 WS or 500 kills under certain conditions is simple enough, but man does it get old after a while. And camping the same NM over and over can get old pretty quick too unless it's a fun and challenging fight.
But....in the end I guess it's still better than something that requires large groups and restricts you to doing a run once every x number of days...

I just spent over nearly 7 millions gils to turn my Enchu+2 into an Enchu +3. What the difference? a +2 Dmg damage added to the katana. Seriously? And im still far from done on completing my trials. Heres what i still need to do:
Main Hand: Enchu +3 > Majimun (need nearly 7 millions) (30k-40k each riftsand)
Off-hand: Enchu+2 > Enchu +3 (Another 7 millions) (25k-35k each Silver mirrors)
Im not sure if its worth spending nearly 21 millions on these trials, in fact i think it isn't fair. How can you go from a trial that did require effort but no gils needed, to something very expensive. I'd have chosen a different trial if I have known this would had occur. I don't even think i ever earn 21 millions in this game since i started playing, and that was since like 2005. this isn't a damn relic!!!! Atleast make an upgrade on the damn weapon based on these trials. Spending 7 millions for a +2 dmg on the katana doesn't add up.
Plus: Been trying to do VW, but lately people are only seeking players with empyreans and relics, which is absurd. That and i'm still in the city VW paths. It's not like im not trying to do them.

whine, whine and whine
Does your vocabulary have any other words?
RAIST explained it in the first place. These are the final stages. Work hard for it.
That also means that you may start your own VW group instead of just joining a group with rediculus requirements.

umm.... in case you missed it earlier.... there is a rank up in the end (Enchu+3 is 44 dmg and rank 4, Majimin is 47 and rank 5)....so not exactly a trivial thing in the end.
And....if you didn't want to spend all that gil, why did you? As Ihnako stated....did you try putting together your own VW group, like with your LS?

Personally I have done some of the magian trials and realize some of them are a bit of a nuisance to do like the ones requiring like 1500 heavy armor plates and stuff that has a lousy drop rate. My point is if you feel that ends doesnt justify the means for all your hard work then why not just stop?
Is it impossible to be satisfied with what you have and find other ways to improve upon it further without the trials? I mean i get people will whine about "why isnt it maxed out?", but f them. If they not going to give you the gil or help you do what it takes to give what right do they have to say anything anyway? I guess it is just me but just because SE put crap in the game for you to complete no matter how idiotic its requirement doesnt mean you have to go along with it.

I'm not sure why no one has brought up the real problem here, so I will do it. The multi-attack katanas are all horrible weapons, stop making them and switch to doing the fire/lightning/wind based trials. As those will outparse any of the multi-hit katanas. My sugesstion is to make 1 str/att, 1 dex/acc and 1 agl/evasion katana. Then start working on Kannagi, which you should be able to solo up to lvl 85 easily, even if it takes awhile. If you only fight 1 briarius or 1 sobek a day, in 2 months you would be close to done, and this is what you should actually be doing with your time, instead of working on bad DA katanas.
Or you could start doing dynamis everyday, NIN/DNC and soloing currency, and in 3-7 months depending on how good you are, you could solo a Kikoku with only 2 hours of effort a day. This is definitely the second best option, but you still should do those other magian katanas.
Or, you could just go exp in abyssea and make cruor, and trade that cruor for chocobo blinkers and buy all the stupid mirrors and sands in a week or two. 1 cruor = 2.6gil if you NPC chocobo blinkers, so you'd need what like 3million cruor? that's not so difficult to get, even in regular old abyssea EXP parties, plus you could get merits, and if you do dom ops, you could get the weapons for those points and NPC them to make the gil you need even faster.
