View Full Version : All-New Expansions Please?

Atm there's only 4 full expansions, while the other 6 are just add-on scenarios. Would it be possible if SE would work on full new expansions for FFXI, including whole new regions, gear, and, maybe (though seriously doubtful) new jobs? Also, a new tier of armor that's similar to artifact and empyrean, but not mythic, in that there's a set specifically for each individual job would be nice. Would kinda make sense after the 99 cap is released to bring out a spicy new expansion for characters of all levels, and new 75 minimum, 99-friendly endgame events similar to what dynamis and einherjar used to be when 75 was the cap.

Maybe allow players to explore the forever-mentioned and never explored far east, but please no boat travel. Would be forever and a day to get there, as nashmau is forever to get to from mhaura, and the far east is ever further.

With the 99 cap coming out, storylines are becoming quick and easy to complete, and experience being powered up making levels quicker to cap, the ingame content to complete is being ever-shortened to do so. So seeing more full expansions a step up from Treasures of Aht Urhgan and Wings of the Goddess in challenging to complete would be nice.

I won't lie, the ingame content now will keep me busy for awhile, but that's because I'm doing things the old fashioned way. However, I don't see why I can't get everything the game offers done in, say, 2 years max, 1 year minimum. When I started a few years back, EVERYTHING took longer to get done. The faster paced isn't bad, just needs some compensation.

i kinda saw the level cap increase to be ffxi's big bang finale while they rolled out ffxiv... 14 didn't come out as planned, but i honestly don't see ffxi coming out with much more brand new content. Lord knows the ps2 can't hold any more new zones in its feeble hard drive

I think the Far East would be the next best thing. I think I remember somewhere they said they could even go West?

Either way, a new expansion could bring a boost to this game!

Please please no more Abyssea SE, lets us see the unexplored parts of Vana'Del once & for all...stop teasing us with items from those places!

I've been saying to SE in my thread (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/778-AF2-NM-s-amp-More..-Issues-amp-Solutions) that they need to remove
the ps2 support, give it-it's own server even or perhaps use
other "discontinuation of service" ideas.

No ones responded yet.. ps2 will be the death of our beloved game.. rise up or we
shall all fall with it!

i used to play on PS2 only, after getting new pc i got game on it and omg so much better, really need to transfer FFXI from PS2 to PS3, either direct download via PSN or some other method since most PS3's now down read PS2 discs (terrible idea Sony), i would LOVE to see the far East and northlands, and esp love new jobs but i doubt they'll add it, one can dream though

I think the history of FFXI's expansions is indicative enough of why we should stay away from them. When a new expansion is released it generally costs about 30 USD. This expansion has a handful of new systems, new jobs, areas and items to experience. That seems awesome and all but many of the meaningful adjustments and content aren't added for another 6 to 12 months after the initial release. That's a really long time and can end up costing the player a ton of money. Another important part to consider is the player's response to particular content. From what I can see nearly all of FFXI feedback is open ended(and why I cannot even begin to imagine) so it may be harder to gauge whether or not an expansion was a success to the player.

You know the adage "vote with your dollar"? Modular micro transaction content like the add-ons provides you with a better opportunity to do that. If for whatever reason abysea didn't turn out as well as it did there probably would have been a steep decline in sales from visions to heroes and you the player would have spent far less. The decline in sales over a shorter period of time would be more noticeable and attributed to quality rather than a decline in user base.

With any luck we will actually see more revisions to older content and more micro transaction or modular add-ons. We also need to have more aggressive surveys and polling instead of "tell us how you feel" and "talk amongst yourselves" with respect to updates and content.

30 dollars is "a ton of money"?

The new XP camps, Besieged, Assault, a city with all guilds and a Jeuno auction house, weren't enough for 30 bucks?

Would gladly pay $30 for a full expansion! How many here would be OK with that?

Wings of the Goddess was released late 2007 and only recently had it's storyline concluded. If you remained a subscriber from release until the final missions that's about 20ish months ?( I don't remember the actual dates). 20 months times the cost of subscription and the cost of the expansion itself is well over 200 dollars. Add-ons, on the other hand, are only 10 dollars plus the subscription that month and have all their content immediately accessible.

The XP camps could have been done anywhere in the pre existing world but weren't. Besieged was extremely lazy design and all Aht Urghan did was move everyone from lower jeuno to whitegate and frustrated people when npcs went missing after besieged. Don't get me wrong though. ToAU was probably the most important expansion FFXI ever had. The problem is that FFXI development has been(up to this point);

1) come up with some silly idea
2) implement it into the game
3) watch players reaction to it
4) repeat

this is incredibly frustrating because it leads to dumb ideas like the evolith system that could be simply adjusted to be amazing but instead get set aside for some other dumb ideas.

There is a far off land below the seas where lays a city called Atlantis. ARRRRR these are the waters that black beard dare not go so be wary. Here tenzen awaits to avenge his wrath with a vengeance but beware there be mighty monsters to challenge the weary travelers even at the highest of levels so bring your friends bring them all because its here you will begin to fall!!! start off with an underwater new world under SEA that leads to a far off western lands but required to do a quest line + NM fights to access this new land with all new items and gear not for the faint hearted.
