Details:
After I updated with the recent version update on Dec. 14th, 2011 at around 09:00PM CST, I am unable to get the PlayOnline application to open. When I click the PlayOnline icon [from start menu] to open up the application, it opens a dialog saying:
============================
PlayOnline Viewer:
PlayOnline Viewer installation cannot write to specified destination folder.
Please check your access privileges.
============================
Also, when I click the Final Fantasy XI icon [ from start menu ] it does nothing at all, or even open the play online viewer. I have uninstalled the game and re-installed it and it launches fine until it updates with the newest version update. And the error process remains the same with unable to load the playonline viewer.

Steps:
1.Clicked PlayOnline icon [in start menu] to open PlayOnline Viewer
2.Received the following dialog error after clicking the PlayOnline Application:
============================
PlayOnline Viewer:
PlayOnline Viewer installation cannot write to specified destination folder.
Please check your access privileges.
============================
3.Uninstalled Game
4.Reinstalled Game
5.PlayOnline Viewer loads fine
6.Update to newest version update
7.PlayOnline restarts
8.PlayOnline gives same Dialog Error as step 2.

** Editing my post because I found a way to get to work **

From the PlayOnline viewer config, i created a desktop shortcut to see if the game would load.
The viewer does load from the Icon on the desktop.

From the FFXI Config i created a desktop shortcut and FFXI now runs from this icon.

they changed the .exe it calls a while back...perhaps it is even in a different folder too now. If the folder path changed you would have to manually change the properties of your shortcut (or create a new one, which is what you did).
