I been thinking and seeing how Campaign has turned out and seeing how Walk of Echoes is turning out, Why not change it up a bit.
Part 1
Campaign, Its has become just a dull experience, more areas are owned by the beastmen cause no one does them hardly anymore. The reason why, I think its just not popular anymore.
1.) Fortifications. "Whacking a wall" Need I say more.
2.) Auto-Reraise. There isn't any, The NPC could give you Reraise once you sign up.
3.) Treasure Pool. Logloglogs.
4.) Can't skill up. Skill up just at a lower rate, Add some nice Blue magic or weapon skills that you can only learn/get in Campaign, That can be used anywhere in the game.
5.) Campaign battles aren't long enough. Maybe make a zone where there is a field battle going on all the time.
6.) Treasure Pool System. Most people are waiting for that "AFKer" to come back, to lot/pass on those Logloglogs. Fix the bug where we have to rezone in and out of that said area to let the Treasure Pool go back to normal.
7.) Campaign short lived event. Campaign battles Magian Moogle Trials or add items needed to Allied Notes that we had to buy for said Trials.
8.) Allied Notes. There is not much to use them for.
RED: I would really like this, not only in Campaign in any field battle would be cool.
This is just some ideas I had burning in my brain, Some may like them most will not, If you have any ideas please share them!
Edit: was asked, Splitting up the campaign and the Walk of echoes ideas.

Here's what I think should be done for offensive battles: Remove fortifications, and just make the fort continually spawn enemies as they are defeated. Fortifications seems to indicate more than just the strength of the structure, it seems to indicate the standing garrison there: Namely, some of the fortification raising campaign ops such as Vanguard X involve sending reinforcements, and every time a unit defending a structure is taken down, the fortifications go down by one.
This simple change would singlehandedly change offensive battles from boring piles of crap, to perhaps more sought after than defensive battles (You wouldn't need to wait for reinforcements to run in, they just spawn at the fort)

Part 2
Ok Walk of Echoes, Make it fun like Besieged and Abyssea, Could add temp items also maybe up the treasure pool, Could take away the waiting a game day... um let us "Memeber's" get into zone 1st waiting out the start button for that WOE run then have the mobs come @ us like in Besieged. Could add something along the lines WOE-PVP/PVE where its like capture the flag. all and all as it is now WOE is slowly dieing.
This is just some ideas I had burning in my brain, Some may like them most will not, If you have any ideas please share them!

Campaign is indeed in need for more tweaks - not having able to skill ups is one of the most "baffling" idea they have in years. Bad drop rate and quality is also hurt the popularity, they should add more gears that you can obtain via campaign (accessories with really good stats will rejuvenate campaign). All the ideas mention here is good.
Walk of Echoes just have somewhat bad drop rate, hence it is not very popular, otherwise it is a very fun, short time activities to do like campaign. Just need some sort of point systems to trade for better gears or items. And able to skill ups.
Also worth mentioning is Moblin Maze - they should tweak this so that at higher level, you can create your own maze where mobs that you need for Magian Trials will spawn here (not abyssea mob or vnm), similar how they do often in Nyzul. This will instantly boost popularity of the maze.
These are quick fixes that SE can do:
- Add point systems to Walk of Echoes (shared by Campaign), and Voidwatch. Similar how they have this on Nyzul, Assaults, and Moblin Maze.
- Add more gears to the list of items you can have, create alternate version of the gears you can get from Aby and Voidwatch, not better but alternative. People like to collect gears, this will make them do more stuffs.

I would love if I could skillup in campaign, I don't think it's possible though because all the mobs are too-weak/ep.
Maybe they could add a system where you can buy skillup scrolls that give you a few points in your chosen weapon skill for notes or something though.

You have to complete the entire wotg story and can only choose 1 earring with either regain or refresh, and it's a latent, so I say no to these earrings, totally over powered but your onto something. Also, these earrings could possibly ruin the balance for the DM earrings, not to mention it already destroys the WOTG earrings. Also, please no more auto-rr.

I like everything the op had to say, except the idea about auto-rr, please no more auto-rr. Skill ups, yes, points, yes. I think alot more ancient beast coins should drop from campaign, now that dunamis is opened up, perhaps people could get indivdual chests with a few ancient currency in it. Maybe have a 100 drop occasionally in the group coffers to be lotted on, idk.
I still like my reraise idea better for campaign, I think auto-rr in WOE makes it cheap and I don't do WOE anymore because of it.
Give a raise effect to all players that are KO'd at the end of a campaign battle, and award all players allied notes and xp, with a -25% penality to player's needing a raise efect. As it stands now, there is really no reason to need auto-reraise, the campaign npc's sell reraise, its a temp item and can be held onto with your conquest point reraise scroll (meaning you can have two at the same time in your inventory, plus the effect on, so that's three times you can be raised, if you can't do that please go do WOE instead). If you want the minute you sign up for campaign an auto-matic reraiseIII effect, then fine, but it should only be once, when you join sign up, and after that you better bring reraise or get it from the npc. Really, how hard is it to get rr off the npc and be smart about were/what you are pulling? People used to do campaign all the time before, so rr wasn't the problem, it's that the rewards before where about xp and notes, which are currently not as important to people as the xp or rewards found elsewhere.
At the least, add better/more treasure and skill ups, and by more treasure no more logs I'm talking ancient beastcoins.

Yeah I agree they are over powered.. just alittle. But think for a moment on RR, Abyssea Auto-Reraise, Walk of Echoes Auto-Reraise, "Twilight Set" for Lv.90 WAR / PLD / DRK / BST / SAM / DRG Auto-Reraise, As for balance goes whatever happened to those other jobs guess their SoL, They gotta buy or talk to a NPC for a paper, Most Campaign zones are owned by the beastmen there for you can't buy Reraise paper on the fly w/ Note, unless you keep running back to a main city.

Look at how badly abyssea destroyed the game's balance, even fixing old content won't be enough to undo all the damage done to this game. I like abyssea, but as you see now people want everything quick and easy, on here are threads saying, we don't want the jp midnight wait on some af quests, we don't want the 8hr+ repop on magian trail nm for empyreans, etc., some of the stuff does has to change, but everything seems to be shifting to a have to have it now attitude can't wait till tomorrow attitude. What happened to strategy? I'm not asking for Kings that take 3-5 days to pop, with low drop rates and people botting and your life revolves around the stupid thing, but I feel if new endgame is going to be challenging then alot of stuff has to shift to a strategy based mentality and people are going to have to start focusing when playing the game again, instead of watching tv while playing the game.
As for twilight mail set, your right it's totally broken. Big screw up there, and because of that your somewhat justified in wanting a twilight earring for the other jobs.
PS- some nm like the pot nm for dagger empyrean ARE over the top, I' not disagreeing with the op of that thread I'm just saying the player mentality has changed, so when SE introduces new content it needs to be acceptable to todays gameplay - no more logs, lol.

1. I like the picture of the rampart, and I hate waiting that long for the darn campaign to start, especially when the npc's are there 30 minutes before, speeding up the confrontation and the rampart idera I like.
2. About the rr scrolls, when you warp into a zone controlled by beastmen, the allied nation npc is at the warp area or around there, not the op, so allow any campaign npc to sell rr would fix this problem, reguardless of zone control. I always thought that was silly that the allied nations needed control to sell you temps.

ME> Real Life> Game, That being said ok yeah there is a lot "Not all but you know who you are" People on these Forums "Cryin" "Beggin" using that word "NEED" and what not. This was just an idea which I thought I would just share.

Naw I already have the "Twilight set" Which works great for my WAR/PLD/DRG/DRK/BST/SAM, Just wanted to bring up and I was wondering why there isn't an Auto-Rereaise "Set" for other jobs like MNK,THF,COR,DNC etc.. There's even a Book out on the field giving out Reraise why would it really hurt the game if these jobs get their own "Set" or not. Let me guess your selling those RR pins on the AH for 50k a pop? :p

Yeah same here, also I think that would be very tough to fix cause it might be base on the supply quests as well with who is in control of the area. =(

Ah look at the whole debate on "please make it very very hard and challenging" again... the voice of the minority :) Abyssea is great and glad as much as they "detest" it, it forces the developer to look back and make comparison, make the game too hard like "old days" - face the hordes of people leaving the game. OR make the game in par with Abyssea or better, and attract more new subscribers.
Concerned4FFxi, let me spell it for you, very easy to understand: nobody in their right mind would love to spam things with extremely low drop rate and inflated artificial "challenging difficulty". People have real life, and some just do not see this game as "investment" where you can parade around Port Jeuno with your gears (let's face it, these achievement do nothing in real life). Walk of Echoes is dead because most of the NA players do not bother to do it, or to find out what it is, and most don't do it because they do not see the need to make "Fake Empy" or feel that the drop rate is really bad. If they make fake empy to have very similar stats, you will see the traffic at Walk of Echoes jump 50 times and everyone will go do it every single time of the day. As it is now, I have to wait for weekends when the japanese players do this.
I am a campaign fanatic and have been thinking of things I'd like to see included in Campaign to make it more enjoyable.
1. Auto-reraise. I don't care if it's an item we buy with Allied Notes at the Sigil guy, a sigil buff with the Medal of Altana for 10,000+ AN, or is only activated when campaign is ended in the zone and we had campaign tags up. I just want some way to have auto-reraise at all times during campaign, because I can't count the number of times I was the only person at the battle. It's irritating running back to Jeuno for new scrolls of instant reraise, and I'm not subbing white mage because it's so inferior to red mage sub now. And, I'm not spending money on reraise items because campaign is for pure entertainment, and it's not worth dumping a shit ton of gil into -- most of the time my reraise wears without using it, and then the ONE time I do need it it wears off right before I eat the dirt.
2. Make our medals mean something. We have 20 total medals, each taking 5 days minimum to acquire. That's a minimum of 100 days to reach the best medal. I feel that after all the work of obtaining the medals, we should have something useful to do with them. I know there used to be certain campaign OPs, a couple of decent armors and the EXP ring from conquering the northlands, but let's be honest, those are no longer as important as they once were.
We could either gain more buffs, better buffs, or something special when in campaign with a Medal of Altana shining brightly on our chest. I'd personally like to see the ability to control an army, since, we are the highest rank we can be at that point. I'd like to tell NPCs to get the hell back and let me pull a foe to them, rather than them charging in and feeling defeated after their foolish attempts. We could either control a specific army (and only when they're at the zone with us), or the ability to control one army at a time, whatever army is present at the battlefield. Again I don't care if this has a restraint on time (such as once per Vana'diel day) just as long as it's not ridiculous (like once per Campaign tally).
3. I'd like to see more Campaign: enhancement gear. Things that are amazing in campaign and poop outside of it. Maybe some equality pieces, like Strength+50 for all jobs! And it'd be really fun to magianize these; Start out with a base piece with poop stats, and after a certain amount of magian trials, the armor can have whatever buff path you chose. The magian trials can be slay a certain amount of beastmen type under offensive/defensive, or maybe join a certain amount of campaigns, or successfully complete x amount of campaign ops.
4. I really like Urthdigger's idea for the fortifications. If we can't have monsters coming out of the fortifications, then perhaps we can have some way to actually take down fortifications? It's so boring sitting there whacking on a wall for two hours only to accomplish 200 xp. It's not fun and in the end it doesn't do our nation any good. I propose we either see Urthdigger's idea, or maybe some sort of bomb system where we can run around and blow things up. More interaction please.
5. Stop making our NPCs such cowards. :( I go into battle single handedly, kill a couple of orcs, they decide to come help me, and then on the third orc, despite me being able to solo them, they get scared and run away! Their defeat destroys Sandy's power over the zone I was working hard to preserve. Jerks.
6. Skill ups would be nice, but since the monsters are low level I can see why it's not included. I mostly want the place to be interactive and fun, with a sense of accomplishment. I want to feel with each medal I gain a little more power or a little more control, and with better armor I can become the true San d'Orian general that the past is so desperately in need for!

Idea, This may benefit everyone..
Option to choose Conquest Points, Imperial Standings, Allied Notes From Campaign Battles. non-Campaign Mobs yield Allied Notes.

Except the RR scrolls they hand out subtract one from our Resources. We can't give out resources that we don't own.
I'd personally rather see said resources be used for other things in Campaign, and for us players to have our own way to reraise.

If you look at all the contents they added after CoP - I think you are not too blind and dumb to see that the "casual" is what they are after. Once in awhile they drop silly stuff like Pandemonium to "challenge" people and keep them awake and keep battling for say over 18 hours straight. But overall the last 4 years are nothing but "casual hamster wheel" content that majority of players can just log in and play for a couple hours and get something done to a degree - baby steps but it's a step. The icing on the cake was Abyssea content where things get better and better and ehem, "easier if you choose to brew it" - but still to do them easy, you have to put some work (nothing like 1-2 years worth of works). Obviously your "challenging" content are not completely gone - they are still there, just not as much, or you can do Voidwatch. FFXI was never about "challenge" - all the old contents were challenging in the beginning then gets easier as more people do it - the challenge was "camping".

Make battles universally last for 1hr and show a bloody progress bar with time remaining on each battle, as well as a bar for inactive zones that shows how long until the zone will see another battle.
Nothing is more frustrating than warping to a zone as the monsters are leaving, or warping in and tagging up only for the fight to last 5 minutes. It's bloody annoying.
The time sink and difficulty should be in the content, not waiting for the content or trying to find the content.

I agree that showing time remainings on battles would be a great idea. The only downfall to that would be the lost element of roleplaying. I'm not entirely sure if they could add a timer, as a lot of campaign battles are based on the ability for each side to either properly acquire their mission or horribly fail it.
As for when the next battle is to begin there is a NPC that tells us when campaign battles are about to begin and in which zones. You can port there. Unfortunately these can sometimes take several minutes to actually start so a time estimation would be awesome indeed!
I don't want to see hour long battles because they become too boring at that point. Fast pace with change upon the battlefield is what I prefer.
Greatguardian
12-13-2011, 08:54 AM
Fast pace with change on the battlefield in the zone we're fighting wouldn't bother me at all. Multiple objectives in an area would be great. That's the kind of fast pacing I'd love, too.
I just don't like "fast pacing" that results in spending more time figuring out where to go, talking to NPCs, and zoning around than actually fighting. I absolutely can't get into Campaign because of this.
I agree 100% with you. More objectives that varied would be awesome! And I can also understand the frustration of entering a zone only for it to end right as you got there, or having ended a second before you warped out. It's frustrating and I'll usually pick zones I know nobody else will be at (Like The Eldieme Necropolis) or talk to the NPC to see which zones will be starting up.
Another thing I want to see changed to Campaign is the OPs. Finding two other bodies for Pit Spider is like pulling teeth. D:<
