View Full Version : Pixies Ruin Latent Effects - Add to Blockaid Feature Please
Windblade

I use a Rogue's Ring when farming so I can get Steal +3 with its latent effect, which requires 75% or lower Hit Points and fewer than 100 Tactical Points. But if I run past a pixie with 75% or less HP, I get a free cure, even when I have /blockaid on! While I know the pixie means well, it does ruin my day.
My suggestion is to have /blockaid apply to pixies as well as other players. Otherwise I'll have to run around with a big supply of venom potions to keep myself injured.

yeah...this is a potential problem for mages that want to trigger latents too---but at least those guys usually have macros set up to quickly drop their hp back again.
Not sure how much of that gear is available to THF, should be a handful of accessories at least that can drop a couple hundred off real quick. Might be an option to look into instead of perpetually poisoning yourself.

Um, wasn't it 75% or higher HP and less then 100% TP?

According to FFXIclopedia:
Active while HP ≤ 75% and TP ≤ 100%.

And why was my post moved to THIS forum? I wanted it to be a SUGGESTION because it IS a suggestion. Now the developers might not find it if it's over here in the battle content area. :(

I'm not sure where this was before, but if I had to guess, this was in the "Forum Suggestions" section, which is for suggestions about the forum, not the game.

It was moved because you mentioned "Rogue's Ring" and that's a THF topic.
And like RAIST mentioned before, make yourself a low hp trigger macro for that purpose.
Disabeling Pixies from spending free cures cause one player doesn't want it... ;p

The request wasn't to disable pixies from giving out cures. There's a function in FFXI called blockaid, which allows you to automatically disallow cures being cast on you from people not in your alliance. He simply wants the feature to be extendable to pixies.
And before you say, "I know what it is", you either don't know, or chose to ignore what he was actually asking to try and start a fight. Okay, done feeding the trolls...
Back on topic, odds are good they won't add pixies to the blockaid function... Players and monsters are different entities, and the code probably recognizes them differently. A seperate function MIGHT be more plausible, but I wouldn't bank on it, either. I'm not saying it wouldn't happen, just giving you warning that this may be functionality SE doesn't have time to implement based on such a low demand.
That said, if SE does happen to read this... By all means, please do. The function would only improve gameplay, and being optional, everyone would have the choice.

Pixies cure you because they love you. Make them stop loving you, and they stop curing you. Eat their babies, slaughter their elders, eviscerate their sisters, exenterate their mothers.
Or.. pack a few HP/MP swap pieces.. for a few gil, you can create a 400 HP difference, more then enough to get HP to 75%. Put some of those illgotten gains to good use!

Actualy I think Pixies are the counterpart of undead mages.
They don't cure you cause you have lowHP no, they attack you with their only accessible spell and then deaggro.
So in the end - it would be impossible to extend a block to NPCs at all.

Not so much agro, more like curiosity. Hpembe will follow you for a while, which was actual agroing without attacking, but pixies are more like those tiny mandragora that follow you around. Carbuncle doesn't seem to freak out about that.. maybe because they are cute tiny sprouts and not frickin' huge floating goldfish?
At least, I never saw a carbuncle running around with a dead pixie in it's mouth after the foul fey dared to cure it's master...

Mmm, no. They have access to many more spells, which you'd know if you fought one (not reccomended if you like your free cures).
You do have a point about the block of NPCs, though; it'd be difficult to implement a block option to pixies. You couldn't block cures without blocking aggressive actions as well. Adding an option to "block" them would be abusable by anyone looking for easy exp.
Maybe an option to get a status that adds a certain amount to your pixie hate, not to exceed a certain level? Your natural hate could still surpass this limit, but it'd put you at a point where pixies wouldn't cure you any more. Make it last until you change jobs and obtainable from any signet/sigil/sanction NPC, or even from your moghouse moogle. It wouldn't be impossible.
[EDIT] just some fixes.

Sure it wouldn't be impossible but as mentioned earlier - there are several ways allready implemented to a) lower your HP through gear and b) let them stop curing you.

Call me schizophrenic, but even though pixies are just pixel wads, I feel guilty killing them. It literally hurts my feelings, so I guess I'll just deal with the issue and try to avoid them. I'll also just make more venom potions and consider them a farming expense. ...not that Steal +3 actually seems to work. I have a hard time stealing wool off sheep even with all my Steal+ gear equipped.
Thanks for all the replies.

I swear there is no such thing as "pixie-hate" - I killed the things en masse for their Stygian Ash back when I camped DI on a daily basis, and they have never not cured or raised me.

Tamoa is correct. Pixie hate is a myth.
Killing pixies simply lowers their population in present & past zones. Releasing a bottled pixie to the spring (like for the cure pot staff trial) builds their population overtime. Their population is dependent on server wide hate. If people kill loads of pixies - less will pop.
On a side note, although this suggestion makes sense - I personally think that it is more effort / time spent on developing something else then it is worth. Just because the OP ran passed a pixie once at 75% due to a latent, doesn't mean it's worth spending the dev's time on something that can be avoided by simply running around them.

Just kill the pixie.

Well, it's easy to run up on them, like over a hilltop where I can't see the pixie until I go over the crest of the hill. And then pixies on the move can sneak up behind me and cure me.
I only suggested it because it seems like it would be something easy to add to the /blockaid feature with just a line of new programming code. This would be more like BASIC, but:
IF CURESOURCE=PIXIE THEN CAST=0
The programming code already exists in the game for this type of thing. That's why we cannot cast Refresh on people not in our party. Just do the same thing to Pixies with Cure.

It's easy to write a shakespearian novel, the words are already there!
It would be far easier -and cheaper- to just ban anyone asking for this.
No, really, do the math.
Things like this are NEVER easy. One wrong decimal, and you got NPCs dealing 22000 damage, or receiving 99999 damage from Cure I.

Wear an Accursed Belt, THF is one of the jobs that can wear it. Then the Pixies can't cure you at all.
