Best gear ? it depends of the situation, best gear for PDT ? MDT ? TP ? haste ? WS ?

Yes, it's all situational, and sometimes that can be very opinionated. I'll let you know when I'm done compiling my "Best Gear" list.
You tailor everything to what action you're doing, but I suppose I can give a few examples of the major sets to work with. Are AF3+1s out of the question as well, or just +2s & high-class weapons like Almace/Excalibur/etc?
TP:
Main: Honorbound
Shield: Seigneur Shield
Ranged/Ammo: Smart Grenade (sad but true, throw us a bone SE, I want a decent TP ammo!)
Head: Zelus' Tiara > Askar Zucchetto (assuming twilight's out of the picture as well)
Neck: Creed Collar / Fortitude Torque / Zeal Charm > Peacock Charm (Do you need the auto-refresh vs. do you need the accuracy?)
Ears: Brutal / Ethereal > Suppa
Body: Haubergeon +1
Hands: Homam Manopolas
Rings: Rajas / Toreador's
Back: Atheling Mantle
Waist: Goading Belt
Legs: Perle brayettes (most would say Homam are better. For Pld's 1-handed sword, I feel acc is more important here)
Feet: Homam Gambieras.
Vorpal Blade:
Ammo: Olibanum / Flame Sachet
Head: Champion's Galea (WS.Acc+15 / STR+4 & Acc+10/Att+5 augments) / Hecatomb Cap (+1)
Neck: Thunder/Soil Gorget
Ears: Brutal / Centaurus
Body: Haubergeon +1
Hands: Hecatomb Mittens (+1) > Perle Moufles
Rings: Rajas / Toreador's
Back: Atheling
Belt: Thunder/Soil Belt / Anguinus Belt > Sentry Belt
Legs: Ares's flanchard > Hecatomb Subligar (+1) > Perle Brayettes
Feet: Hecatomb Leggings (+1) > Perle Solerets
Flash:
Ammo: Incantor Stone
Head: Zelus Tiara > Veloce Zuchetto > Walmart Bag
Neck: Invidia Torque
Ears: Loquacious / Ethereal
Body: Iron Ram Hauberk
Hands: Homam Manopolas
Rings: Odium / Hercules'
Back: Cerberus Mantle (+1) / Valor Cape
Waist: Goading Belt
Legs: Homam Cosciales
Feet: Homam Gambieras
Cure:
Ammo: Incantor Stone
Head: Adaman Barbuta (Aug'd from [A]-Tahrongi, personally have Cure Potency+5% & Spell interruption-2%, saw an exact replica of this in a gold box the other day)
Neck: Invidia Torque
Ears: Hospitaler / Ethereal
Body: Iron Ram Hauberk
Hands: Iron Ram Dastanas
Rings: Odium / Meridian / Hercules (I like using the Meridian for the extra ceiling room when I'm near-capped HP)
Back: Valor Cape / Boxer's mantle
Waist: Creed Baudrier
Legs: Homam Cosciales
Feet: Gallant Leggings (+1)
Ichi:
Ammo: Incantor Stone
Head: Zelus Tiara > Veloce Zuchetto > Walmart Bag
Neck: Shield Torque
Ears: Loquacious / Ethereal
Body: Nuevo Coselete (Enm+5 / Fast Cast+5 augments)
Hands: Homam Manopolas
Rings: Odium / Hercules
Back: Boxer's Mantle
Waist: Goading Belt
Legs: Homam Cosciales
Feet: Homam Gambieras / Gallant Leggings (+1)
MDT-:
Main: N/A
Sub: Seigneur Shield
Ammo: [Element] Sachet
Head: Iron Ram Sallet
Neck: Twilight Torque > Katipo Charm
Ears: Merman's / Ethereal
Body: Iron Ram Hauberk
Hands: Iron Ram Dastanas
Rings: Merman's Rings x2 (or aug'd dark rings from Konschtat)
Back: Colossus's Mantle (Resentment doesn't work in abyssea, sadly)
Waist: Creed Baudrier (Magic Defense = MDT-)
Legs: Coral Cuisses (+1)
Feet: Iron Ram Greaves
Remember: You need -23~24% (Magic) damage taken in gear to cap the effect when paired with Shellra V. You need to do that before attempting to stack Magic Def. Bonus
PDT-
Main: Shamshir +2 (VIT+10 / PDT-10% augments)
Sub: Koenig Shield (Shamshir +2 when fighting Ironclads, as regular attacks are TP moves & cannot be shield blocked)
Ammo: Bibiki Seashell
Head: Koenig
Neck: Twilight Torque / Creed Collar
Ears: Brutal / Ethereal
Body: Darksteel Harness (+1)
Hands: Heavy Gaunlets
Rings: Jelly / Meridian
Back: Metallon Mantle
Waist: Nierenschutz
Legs: Blitzer Poleyn (PDT-4% / Movement Speed+8% augments)
Feet: Ruffian Leggings
-Kiting:
Main: Earth / Terra's staff
Sub: Eisen Grip.
These are just a few examples of gear setups, without using any upgraded creed pieces or other luxuries such as Valhalla, Defending / Mars's / Minerva's rings. There's no such thing as "full-time gear" on paladin. If you aren't blinking like a christmas tree, you're doing it wrong.

When people restrict gear when asking for a build. I usually just go w/ like the top 3-4 pieces
For example if I were doing Mnk Heads
Tantra+2 > Tantra+1 > Turban > Brisk > Usukane.
I do it because people may think something is unatainable now but may decide to aim for it later and not know where it stands.
That being said, someone w/ better pld knowledge, should probably do something similar and include the gear he asked to exclude, just to see where it stands and if he wants to go for it later. if not then just move down the list till he finds something he feels is obtainable.

With RR even Perle Hauberk is better than Haub+1, and Grim Cuirass is also mysteriously not mentioned for PDT set (or WS, assuming the lack of accuracy isn't a large issue, it's comparable to/beats Perle last I checked). Shouldn't be TPing in Twilight Helm, but it's a fair choice for WS over Heca, also V helm if the accuracy isn't hurting you.

(Shamshir +2 when fighting Ironclads, as regular attacks are TP moves & cannot be shield blocked)
This is incorrect. I'm a bit startled that a pld thought this. Have you never noticed unusually low dmg hits from an ironclad? Or really low ws dmg from any mob really. Or that when reprisal's up it happens more often and you get stunned/amnesia'd less?
You most certainly CAN block Ironclad melee hits. Just as nearly any Physical(not ranged sadly) TP attack can be blocked with a shield. The only exceptions I can think of atm are the 1000 needles series, and apparently Mega scissors(which I'm not altogether sure is physical, PDT doesn't seem to help either.. player hp based?)
In addition to reducing the damage taken blocking a physical TP attack prevents additional effects(stun, stat downs) at a high rate.
This mechanic becomes immediately apparent when wielding an Ochain against an Ironclad. Since you nearly always block, you take very little dmg and almost never get stunned/amnesia'd, or interrupted for that matter.

I don't think Honorbound is the best weapon for PLD, for vorpal blade spam i prefer Accolade Sword (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Accolade_Sword)

Honorbound + Enlight = More damage
Vorp blade ive done over 2400 to Ironclad's and well over 3k on NQ mobs
I think Grim +1 is better over other bodys mentioned but thats my prefencen till i get +2 body next week.
TY all this info will help me be Better except i still cant spell simple words right.
tp set inside aby you shouldnt need this much accu, so blitz ring /homam leg> toreador/perle if you are too low in acc switch back to cuchu before removing haste, walara>askar

I'd recommend Badelaire +2 same damage but lower delay as well as CDC without having to actually upgrade an emp. Chant will provide more damage than any stand alone weapon and will knock +10 enlight damage out of the park.
Accolade sword provides a nice tp bonus and a crit rate increase through fencer but it's delay is very high.
I do have to admit though, honorbound is cool looking.

I was quite unsure where to head regarding my gear, this thread really gave me somewhere to start at. Like someone proposed I think it would be a good idea to post a list containing ALL equipment (including empyreal +1/+2) so one can see what's worth aiming for.
Although blinking is important to adapt to each situation, I just started trying that when I last started playing (which was a few weeks after the release of the first Abyssea addon). What really annoyed me was that I can't change a whole equipment set with just one macro. Nowadays (I returned to the game this month) I'm just as lazy as before and fulltime Perle Set... But it doesn't really matter anyways, as I mostly just end up as support healer. :/
Nevertheless, I hope that some day my character may return to usefulness, so how do you all address this? Limit the equipment change to 6 pieces? Or hitting 2 or 3 buttons in a row over and over to change all necessary pieces and then starting the action you actually did that for?
There is something specifically regarding Ryx' post:
Is the Haste gear for the spell macros (e.g. Zelus Tiara for Flash) just a filler? Cause AFAIK, Haste gear must remain equipped for the Recast Reduction to stay in effect.
I can't find an item named Zeal Charm. Is this a typo or an item not added to the wiki yet?

It's spelled Ziel charm, oddly. Haste just needs to be equipped when the cast finishes to get the recast reduction. Which shouldn't be an issue.

Thank you for clearing that up. :)
And for the Ziel Charm... I always feel it sounds odd when they use German words in the English item names. :/

I'm not dissing anyone's choice in game play or anything. Well here I go.
I'm sure I'm not alone in this, but I'm more like a casual player. I dont have the mental capacity to handle all the more complicated sides to this game. Would I like to? Yes. But I play when I can and try to make sure I dont get into anything to serious so that I can go to bed at a decent time. I'm sure if i put more effort into it I can be better, but I dont have that option. I understand that people are in my situation and can still pull it off, and my hat is off to all of you. This game truly has some amazingly talented and intelligent people.
But I have to refuse to "Blinking like a Christmas tree" in regards to gear. That's just to much for me to do for me to relax and play a game. I like finding the in between set, and just do what i gotta do. I'm in no regards the best pld out there, but I get it done, and it looks good. That's just something I wanted to share.
-Personally I prefer the Joyeuse to the Honorbound only because of the multi-hit, but I still keep Honorbound equipped.-

I'll leave out AF3, though obviously they'd replace various pieces.
TP: Higher DMG weapons aren't always best, Joyeuse is still a strong contender, I haven't tried mathing swords in some time, so I'll leave that blank.
Shield: Seigneur Shield
Ammo: White Tathlum if it shaves a hit off (inb4 oh noes it has -2 enmity)
Head: Zelus > Veloce > Turban (wtf at Askar^)
Neck: Ancient torque > PCC > Chiv chain etc
Ear1: Brutal
Ear2: Suppa or WoTG earring variant
Body: Acc capped then Timarli > Grim > Ares > Perle > Haub etc, otherwise Haub >
Hands: Dusk +1/ Timarli > Homam for acc / dusk if not needed
Ring1: Toreador's, Blitz if not needed
Ring2: Rajas always
Back: Atheling > Cuch for acc
Belt: Vbelt, PLD can't use Twilight/Bullwhip
Legs: Homam
Feet: Homam for acc / Dusk+1 else
Shield
Head: Koenig/Kaiser
Neck: Shield torque
Feet: Gallant +1
Ear1: Buckler
Ear2: Creed
Hands: Augmented Versa with +shield
Back: Boxer's
Throw PDT in the other slots
PDT
Shamshir +2
Valhalla head
Twilight torque
Darkness earring (PDT augment)
Valhalla body > Grim cuirass > Versa +1 > Darksteel harness
Heavy gauntlets > Versa/Darksteel+1/Ebon
Dark rings > Jelly ring > Succour ring > Patronus ring
Metallon mantle
Nierenschutz
ASA legs w/ PDT
Ruffian leggings
Can't tell you the best MDT set, since Aegis caps me and I don't worry about it, and I dunno what the best enmity+ stuff is, though it's not useful currently in abyssea.
Yeah screw it, way too many sets to post here.
