The new adjustable chatlog and wider macro buttons are awesome improvements to the FFXI interface, and both are things I've literally wanted for years, no exaggeration. I think SE would do well to continue such improvements to the UI, as there are many, many, many other areas with shortcomings that could be improved as well.
One suggestion: on the PC version, set the default keyboard type to Compact rather than Full Size. That way FFXI's default settings for character movement conform to the standard WASD keys, which makes it so that new players don't get confused when first starting up the game. The biggest issue I've noticed new players have with FFXI on PC is that they can't figure out how to move, simply because the default controls are so unusual. If the default keyboard setting was changed to Compact instead of Full Size like it is now, this problem would be completely solved.
There's a bunch of other stuff I think needs fixing as well, but I think that one simple suggestion is enough for now.
