Most of us love this game and it's still Squares flagship MMO, it's still the biggest, most futureproof and most profitable one they run at least.
I understand we won't get a fully fleshed out announcement on addons/expansions but can we at least get "yes we are going to release more"? Even WoW is releasing more expansions and in all honesty FFXI is getting a little stale right now, we need news of expansions/addons to keep intrest there and keep people invested.
Can we please get a word that there are plans for buyable expansions/addons in the future? Because no word gives the impression there are no plans to release anymore and considering most of us have no intrest in FFXIV and there are new MMOs coming out I don't think that's a very good mindset for a rather bored playerbase.

And what do we want? We want Expansions with new, non-rehashed areas + storylines!
Such as the following:
The Far East Empire - Dem Cherry Blossoms + Tenzen action yo!
The Great Southern Empire - Mithraland!
Orcish Empire/Gigas Homeland - I know some folks that are into getting rocks thrown at them from a mile away.

grrr.... been trying to dig it up, but can't remember the name of the moderator that posted it....but back around the first of the month, one chimed in on a thread and stated there indeed was something planned. Maybe someone remembers the thread and can post a link to it?
Don't think this was the quote I was looking for specifically, but it does give a hint that things are coming:

I understand your feelings about the differences between FINAL FANTASY XI and FINAL FANTASY XIV. Please understand that these games are very different entities and just as it was stated before, the operational policies as well as the size of the development team are very different as well.
Just to clarify one misconception I have been noticing for a while now...
"PS2 limitations" is not a factor for adding new areas to the game and we will in fact be adding new areas in the future, so please do not worry about this.

How about new monsters to challenge players? "More will be added to Voidwatch along with future version updates," Ito reveals. "We're going to add a lot of boss-type monsters." Abyssea focused on small teams, but what about large Linkshells that want events to accommodate more of their members? "Large-scale content aimed at Linkshells is something we are actually working on right now," says Ito. Another subset of players still has been waiting for another epic storyline, akin to Wings of the Goddess or Treasures of Aht Urghan. Regarding the next addition to the game, Tanaka states "The major concept of Abyssea was an add-on focused on battle. The add-ons before that had content that focused on story scenarios. For the next version of content, we are considering a new style -- something different from both of these."
Thank you.
It makes you think twice what it could be. How could it not be geared towards storyline or battle? I shudder to think it but the only thing that comes to mind is packs of items and such you pay for like other MMOs do. Want this new job? Gotta pay for it. That kind of stuff. That or the theme will be exploration with new zones. Not necessarily story or battle based in mind, just new zones with stuff in them. Maybe an alternative to Abyssea exp. Shrug. I don't know. Curious to think about nonetheless.

I bet the content is story driven 18 man voidwatch battles, where each battle you have a chance of getting a key item in a box. Sometimes even if you have the key item it'll fall in your box anyways. The next battle in the mission line requires that you have 18 of these key items to just start it. SE sees this as "fun" and "balanced" I bet.

You don't need to even add new content for an expansion. Just revamp old content. There are huge swaths of abandoned territory all across Vanadiel.

I think anything short of brand new lands to explore would be a huge letdown. There's so much they've teased us with over the years, it's time for them to show us the goods!
Although I'd say I'm least interested in the Gigas and Orc homelands, I'm sure they could do a lot with it. I sense a huge Norse vibe coming from there. Maybe we could get 2-handed maces as many have proposed in the past?
I'd love to see what our Japanese developer friends would do with the Far East. I'm sure it'd end up being incredibly beautiful. I'm sure we have a lot of Japanophiles (of which I have a mild case so no insult intended) who're chomping at the bit for more Japanese flavor in Vana'diel. I wonder if such an expansion would actually be more popular in Japan or with the western players. It'd be nice if they could give us real kimonos as gear if they can find a way for the engine to support it.
The Far West I think would have an Old West/totemic theme. I see a really wild/untamed, divided, and tribal land with no supreme power like Jeuno or Aht Urghan. Unlike in the present or the WotGs past, whoever we decide to ally with would have a very distinct impact in how things turn out. Perhaps we'd get a Conquest system that really means something?
The Mithran homelands I guess would follow the jungle theme we get from Kazham/Elshimo. I would think it'd be very similar to Aht Urghan with mercenary groups all over the place, but an empire even more internally conflicted than Aht Urghan. The focus would be more on that than an external threat like the Beastmen or the fight between rival gods. Perhaps like Jeuno we may find that the powers that be aren't necessarily on our side and we would be supporting a coup or rebellion.
